What's new

Mohammad Amir at Essex for the 2017 season

It will be a big learning opportunity for Amir.Hope he don't get injured. There will be a lot of pressure on his body there.

County Cricket is a bit over rated for fast bowlers. Junaid Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Sami, Rana Naveed have all had bowling stints in county cricket but it did nothing for their careers to be honest. A season or two of county cricket is only useful for familiarizing oneself with English conditions.

He wasted an opportunity to get some free bmw and other vehicles and hafeez bagged atleast 3 vehicles from Ramazan Transmission...

That is subjective however they can earn a few extra quid as well which is a big bonus

It's neither over or underrated, this is a good chance for him to test his skills against quality players of lateral movement and access to highly qualified coaches to refine his action and strengthen his physique.

Good point. There's no question that county cricket helped Wasim, Waqar and others in the 90s but times have changed. The game is a lot more international now so cricketers have a chance to improve in that capacity even without country

Nonetheless it's still a great opportunity for Amir to get some good cricket in given that we don't have any cricket for months

Look at those names - no amount of County cricket will transform them into consistent performers.

County cricket is over-rated. If county was so good it would have helped England win atleast one major world tournament or be consistently the best test side in the world.

Standard of county cricket in those days was on a different level since worlds best players played in it like they do in ipl now

Amir on 2-48 after 13 overs.

Remember this is a pink ball game. According to ECB director of cricket operations the pink ball is manufactured in same way as the white ball so its not easy to shine and won't swing for as long as the red ball.

Middlesex full of hacks or what? They're all just swinging and giving their wickets away.

Could be a racrical ploy to score some quick runs then put them in to face the new ball during the session where the lights start to take effect.

Ideally you'd want some runs on the board first. They started swinging before 200.

It's got them up to 250 though so far. Not a clue what the pitch is like but Chelmsford has a reputation for green seamers in the longer formats so I guess we'll see if it pays off if that is the intention.

Middlesex also played the day-night game against the MCC in Abu Dhabi at the start of the season having been last season's champions so have a bit of recent experience with the pink ball.

Tactics not working so far. This silly tactic is only employed by players that are incapable against lateral movement; new ball or pink ball at night.

Tylical Amir performance he seems content with his 2 and 3 fers he will never achieve much with this attitude.I am sure he was running in with his loser attitude bowling low 130's just happy to collect the paycheck which he missed out on for 5 years

Picked up Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli which no other bowling line up came even remotely close to dismissing for such low score.

I hope he keeps picking up these "useless" 3-fers to give shut up call to arm chair experts.

no doubt you watched you were there on the ground and watched every ball

Thank you for proving my point. The indian game shows he has it in him to be a top 3 pacer in the world even Azhar mahmood pointed out to him that he coasts in most of the games operating at 70% of his capacity.Yes its all very nice to be hailed a big match player however he would be.much more useful to Pakistan if he keeps a similar intensity in 90% of his games rather then wait for a big game which may come once in 5 years.

The figures shows its a typical Amir performance post ban.

You cant judge off a scorecard

Plus knowing the rhetoric if he got 5 wickets people will call him a mercenary and criticise him for performing now. No matter what people will be after him

Even in County cricket they're dropping catches off Amir's bowling! :))

Simon Harmer after the day's play:
"If I hadn't dropped Stirling, Mohammad Amir would have cleaned up the tail pretty quickly. He was in a nice rhythm. Five wickets went into my column that probably should have been his."

Essex playing really well with 365/0. Looks like it was a batting friendly track, which shows Amir really bowled well and Simon Harmer admitted that.

Situation looks ripe for final day Amir show.... (bowling at 70%)

Middlesex 246
Essex 442/1 (115.0 ov)
Essex lead by 196 runs with 9 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

ATG in the making.

Will be the best modern bowler after Steyn in tests, although he will always lag behind Starc, Hazelwood, maybe Hassan in ODIs

Shoo! shoo! clearly you must be mistaken :yk Also, you need to be a bit more quiet; we don't need you to scare some posters away :ashwin

2nd innings:

Amir 0-31 after 14 overs.

Doesn't seem like pink ball is doing much.

Oh God Amir is as mediocre as they come. The CT final was a fluke. Amir is a fluke. He should be dropped and banned.

Given some of the nonsense said on PP, I thought you were being serious for a moment.

not a great match for amir, pitch is flat for seamers tho

another great game for the south african harmer, been listening to commentary today and he's apparently really highly rated at essex, but his skin colour means he won't get anymore opportunities for SA it seems. i do not rate maharaj

Essex win right at the death with Harmer taking 9/95.

14 for match, in a game where Essex lost 3 wickets in total - that's with a pink ball under lights & he is an off-spinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope Junaids has noticed the scorecard.

Can't believe that he isn't playing for South Africa. Unfortunately, owing to the racist quota system, they're forced to pick the mediocrity of Maharaj, Phangiso and even Peterson.

Yes, what an outrage.

Simon Harmer, Bowling Ave List A 40, FC 30
Keshav Maharaj Bowling Ave List A 28, FC 26

How dare they select the consistently better performer?

I'd say you have a bee in your bonnet these days.

Look I agree that he has better numbers and what not, but from what I've seen of him, I'm not convinced. I have no motive out of this. I just personally really liked Harmer on that India tour and he looked like a bright prospect, he's proving me right now - unfortunately, a little too late for the poor lad.

"Numbers are better" means he has performed better. You can have how many personal doubts as you like. But you can't use an entirely merited and meritocratic selection choice which just so happens to have picked a colored player over a white plater, as an example of the iniquities of South Africa's 'racist' quota system. It's quite amazing, frankly, that on PakPassion of all places you are saying the white players should be assumed to be better than players of Subcontinental extraction.

Essex have a televised t20 against Surrey tomorrow evening for those interested.

Not entirely sure on the full Surrey squad but I believe he'll be bowling at a top 4 of Roy, Finch, Pietersen, Sangakarra so should be interesting.

neither Pietersen or Sangakkara are in the squad for Surrey

Sangakarra must still be injured. Not a clue why Pietersens not playing, was in a hospitality box at lords yesterday so he's in the country.

KP's first game will be against Essex on Wednesday 19th July and he will then will be available for the rest of the tournament. KP v Amir will be a good battle- can't wait!

Thanks, he is getting his late out swinger back. With that left-arm angle, if he can bring his out swingers on target at 140km, against modern batsmen, he'll get 3/4 wickets every innings without the help of fielders. Out swing takes the most physical stress of a fast bowler - it suggests, he is getting stronger.

But but but Amir is not good enough :))) :))) :)))

Shout out to all arm chair experts they make PP all the more colorful.

That 5-fer was at Scarborough as well which is usually a flat wicket.

Quality evergreen fast bowling to bring up a 5 wicket haul, looked like a tidy spell too. This reminded me of when Steyn got a 5 wicket haul against Pak in 2013.

Amir having fun with bat and ball:
