Amir is a poor man's Zaheer Khan.
It's all management's fault. He won't come back until this management is kicked out.
This is what I meant by his career being blighted by selfish attitude. Even if he doesn't like management, if he really cared about representing his country he would make himself available in any role. It is this sort of decision making which led to him selling out for easy money in the first place. He has always been a mercenary and his career stats reflect this.
He is destined to play in the IPL and don the yellow jersey. It is why he retired prematurely.
Just to clarify, I am an Amir fan, and if he ends up playing in the IPL I would like to see him do well. I think he is an immensely talented bowler, although I question whether he has the desire or fitness to play at the highest level at this stage of his career.
For Pakistan it is better for us to have totally committed and hungry players who value the shirt. Amir left that behind some time ago in my opinion.
So you’d pick Junaid Zia over Amir if he showed more hunger, commitment and valued the shirt more?
I'd take shaheen over Amir anyday of the week 4 years ago or now in all formats.
Shaheen and a revitalised Hasan Ali are already bowling better than Amir ( for Pakistan). Hasnain is improving, and even Haris Rauf has shown some progress. Pakistan is not short of pace bowlers. They might not have the skill of Amir, but they are hungry and committed. They are quite a bit faster as well these days.
Harsh on Shaheen.
It's obviously only a prediction, but based on the start Shaheen as had in his LOI career, I think he can end his career as an ATG for Pakistan in the ODI format.
He still has to learn bowling in test cricket and obviously a bit raw for the longest format, but he has had a great start to his LOI career. I personally think he will have a better career than Amir by the time he hangs up his boots.
Amir may have ended his career as a poor man's Zaheer but it was a pleasure watching him bowl with the new bowl and on his day, he was as good a match winner as anyone.
If he plays in IPL, he will grab a lot of eyeballs and his battles vs Kohli, Rohit, de Villiers and other top batters will be a treat for fans.
Same goes with Shaheen too.
The question Mohammad Wasim should be asking himself is, does Amir strengthen the bowling attack or weaken it? And pretty quickly he’ll realise that Amir can only strengthen a bowling attack that consists of mediocre players like Hasnain, Rauf and Faheem.
The question Mohammad Wasim needs to ask is whether this guy is available for international cricket or not, and then to move swiftly on.
