Mohammad Hafeez gets his own COVID-19 test done - and its negative! Are PCB tests to be trusted?

This from a well-known doctor:

No surprises at all re Hafeez . Again shows incompetence of PCB medical panel. Those players that's don't have the resources or contacts like Hafeez - what happens to them.

The biggest issue here is that PCB shouldn’t have released players information without their consent and should have done repeat testing and contact tracing to be sure and only then release information if player is happy for them to do so.

This is a moot pooint at best. From my personal experience, none of the existing COVID-19 tests (1- Swab sample collected from back of sinus 2- Antibody test) have 100% accuracy. Actually many doctors here in the U.S. have reported false positives or negatives i.e. a person found to be positive/negative, upon testing being done again (using same methods) have shown opposite results.

I developed a sinus and throat infection during Ramadan (along with minor Pneumonia), when I went to get antibiotics, I was tested for COVID-19 as well and my result came out negative.

My nephew (a doctor) from Ireland called next day and I was telling him about my tests (I had to wait 5 days before getting the result back), he told me Maamon this is not accurate and neither is the anti-body one. When I received the call from the clinic I was tested at and they gave me my results, I asked the male nurse the same question re: accuracy of the test. He accepted that this is the only test they conduct even though they know the results are not completely accurate. This has been verified from other doctors as well.

As bad as PCB is/has been in past, this is not really a case of them being incompetent or bad...although the point about not releasing the players names in public, that def is a valid point!

You are getting confused. It's the negative tests which can be incorrect, as much as 30%. Because of a lot of reasons, like error in collecting, not going deep enough etc. The positive results are very highly accurate and can give positive results ONLY if there is presence of the virus.

I am aware Mohammad Hafeez and Wahab Riaz took personal tests outside of our process prior to the second PCB testing. While their results came up negative, as per the PCB testing programme, they are deemed to have one negative test following a positive test. Therefore, once they are retested and receive a second negative result under the PCB testing programme, they will be available to join the squad in England.

So Hafeez's own test was of no use at all.

But this shows that no disciplinary action is being taken against Hafeez for his tweet and actions. He is still going on tour.

Frankly the special treatment given to the senior players is ridiculous.

I dislike Umar Akmal but had he been in this situation the PCB would have openly embarrassed him and dismissed him from the squad. Why the double standards for Professor?

Probably done under bad advice

As I understand, it supposedly goes on and off, just look at what happened with Hafeez!

From what I was told, results can swing one way on first try, and next time completely the opposite.

Only because an infected person is first tested near the end of his infection, then retested once he’s recovered.

Hafeez has not been found not to have been infected. He has just recovered from his infection.
