Good effort. But what Hafeez does against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is about as relevant as what Yk against Sri Lanka in tests. Neither have relevance when we tour next

I know it’s only one match but I’m sick of this guy piling on the runs against Sri Lanka and when the runs are easy and then choking when the going gets tough.
He played an amazing innings in the final and I thought it could’ve been the perfect time for him to retire, but he really has to go now considering he can’t bowl and he’s a serial choker.

It's mindboggling that he has fans.
Any Hafeez fan support his selection and want him to play the next World Cup in England, should be shown this earth shattering stats
We are slowly inching towards that period where selectors will soon say we cannot drop Hafeez because its too close to the World Cup and we need experience.
To think, he would have played in 4 world cups at that point (07, 11, 15, 19)

Can you do this same filter for Shoaib Malik. Both Malik and Hafeez
are bits n pieces cricketers. I have always said Pak cannot afford to have
both in 1 line up. If I had to pick for an odi/T20 team I would pick Hafeez
because of his bowling but now he can't bowl.
I would be good if Pak give 2 new players a chance.
the best way to give context to this typically useless innings from hafeez is to contrast it with the far more useful and aggressive back to the wall innings played by two guys who are supposedly in the tail

Exaclty my thoughts.I would love it if he would preform like this all the time but he simply does not.
This innings has booked his place in the team for another 20 matches and he’ll probably score another innings just like this when his career is on the brink.
Goodness gracious. No one times a better career saving innings than Hafeez. It's just perfect.
I think Hafeez is a strange case and does play some sublime innings from time to time. His biggest problem is with consistency. In spite of playing close to 200 ODI's, his average is just 32. People might argue he is a bowler also but again Hafeez played most of his matches in recent time in the top order. An average of 32 in this era for a top order player is poor. He was in the team for his economical bowling and a bowler who could bowl with the new ball and keep things tight. With him not doing that anymore, Pakistan need to think whether his fits the bill for 2019 WC.
Hafeez was averaging around 23 before his career revival in 2010. Since then he became a permanent member of the side and his average shot up from 23 to 32. For someone who is an all rounder that is not such a bad achievement. He is on his way to over take Saeed Anwar's no of 100's and to have the highest number of ODI centuries for Pakistan.
Not sure why Hafeez is always the target. He is probably the most eye catching batsman in the side. He has the perfect back foot game needed for NZ and is the best player of the cut and pull shot in the team.

Let’s just consider carefully what you wrote...
A Pakistani opener averaging 32! Mmmm now I know Australians or Indians would laugh at that but in itself that’s perfectly acceptable for Pakistan where anybody has struggled to average over 35 (javed inzi saeed Yousuf aside)
Secondly an opener with 32 average and economical off spin. Certainly in a country with no full time off spinner that’s a luxury.
Thirdly with 6000 runs and 200 ODIs plus experience around almost every ground in the world....
You would have to say he isn’t the biggest problem we have right now yet so much time and effort is spent negating his contributions.
I think if he comes lower down and stops pretending to be an opener then we have a solid no7. We just need to fix opening slot and get the attack back on song.
I’m not sure about faheem
Shadab is great but undercooked and an economical offie is always an asset. I think too much emphasis is placed on our lineup. What we need is just more experience. Maybe in a year or so we can look beyond Malik and hafeez but really I don’t think our younger lot are very dependable at the moment. Faheem, ruman are just average.

I don't think you understood my point. I meant to say that since he is unable to bowl, does he warrant a place in the side as the batsman alone. For a specialist batter an average of 32 is poor and during the world cup he will be 38 years old. That was my point. I agree that when he was a batsman who can bowl 10 overs economically he would fit the bill but now it is not the case.
I understood your point but I didn’t explicate too much. Firstly he could be cleared tomorrow and allowed to bowl in which case we can address that point. Secondly a Pakistani with 32 average is fine. Nothing earth shattering but it’s perfectly acceptable.
There's nothing dependable or reliable about the seniors. They have a 15 year career blighted by under-performance. If Fakhar Zaman Hafeez and Malik retired today, only Fakhar would be remembered for what he has achieved.
For every fakhar there is a nasir jamshed and a sharjeel Khan. These youngsters need to prove their techniques, temperament and moral compass before they push out mediocre seniors. These mediocre seniors are not as disastrous as many posters think. Hafeez was no 1 all rounder not too long ago and Shohaib does add a little bit to the middle order. However these seaming, swinging conditions against a very good attack is bound to be a challenge. Let’s see how the remaining three matches go. I predict a 100 from one of these two.
Malik averages less than 15 in New Zealand, you are expecting a 100 from him LOL

Both jokers scoring great centuries today
Why people still support Malik and Hafeez?
Because thy don’t know a thing about the game
Would be icing on the cake if inzinsacks Sarfaraz and makes Hafeez the captain now..

Having followed cricket passionately and seriously for three decades, I stopped taking Pakistan cricket seriously the day such a mediocre batsman became more assured of a place in the Pakistan top order than even the likes of Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Saeed Anwar ever did.. sorry nothing personal against Hafeez but just couldn't come to terms with this reality.
And as for international cricket, well its a bit of a joke and not worth following for me having grown up watching all rounders like Imran, Botham, Kapil Dev, Hadlee, Wasim Akram, Kallis, Pollock, Razzak and now apparently Hafeez for his ability to bowl a few maiden overs to complement his mediocre batting is supposedly ranked world no. 1 all rounder in some format.
Enjoy your superstar is all I can say, and may he continue to entertain his fans for years to come.![]()

I think you are forgetting how many collapses we’ve had with world class players and how average some of our players if the past have been. Just think of ramiz, manzoor elahi etc etc mediocrity is not new and will always be there until the pcb invest serious dollars overhauling the domestic structures and pitches
True mediocricity is nothing new, but you always had belief that sooner or later these mediocre players would get exposed and dropped after their woeful performances - and they did, be they Manzoor Elahi or Naveed Latif (remember him?) but this rule has never applied to Hafeez, this club standard batsman has continued to be selected for well over a decade and still counting, as a so-called senior player..
Does anyone honestly think Hafeez could score prolific 100s for one season even playing for a club team in Zimbabwe or Bangladesh ? Never mind first class level - just don't think so. But who cares, he has played test cricket for over a decade as top order batsman, what irony![]()
Because he’s an offie. I would love to see him dropped but the really sad thing is there is no off spinner in Pakistan. The only time in my life I have seen pcb selctors being ruthless was around 2000/2001 when Shohaib Malik with his doosra appeared and saqi was immediately dropped. Saqi was dropped in England series in 2000 in lords match and Only because of Shohaib’s collision with Afridi did saqi get in for old Trafford.
Likewise even in early 90’s mushy was picked instead of qadir who had a few years left in him.
All our batsmen, hafeez Shohaib in particular are awful but we are desperate for a spin all rounder. Until our strategy changes I.e having 4 out and out wicket taking bowlers like Wasim Waqar, razaq Shohaib...we will always go for the bits and pieces strategy. That’s why unfortunately we are stuck with hafeez. Better get on with finding decent bowlers.
