Mohmmad Hafeez says that it was time that elections were held properly to elect the Chairman of the board instead of him basically being a selected nominee of the patron in chief, the Prime Minister.

"The present process is not correct because presently the chairman PCB was elected under a selection system and the procedure for selection of PCB chairman is not right.

"The chairman PCB comes on political grounds and the chairman who comes politically does not understand cricket at all"

I understand Hafeez's anger. He wanted to play another 2 World Cups before making any decision. Good job Ramiz to get rid of this leech.

I think he's retired already.. so he can say anything he want..

He was retired because Ramiz demanded that, which is good for us. Hafeez could be a good coach if he retired gracefully and be good term with Ramiz. Very selfish attitude!!!

Beshaq

The next chairman will have a lenient stance on ex fixers. There is absolutely no consistency when it comes to decision making

Hafeez should concentrate on his cricket for the next year or so and not question appointment of PCB chairman. He is almost at the end of his career. He may be able to play franchise cricket for a couple of years if he maintains fitness.

Why? He has a right to his opinion. We have far too many ‘yes sir’ in our cricket.

Challenging the mafia is a good thing.

Prof is the kind of guy who will bring out things he has been sitting on now and not wait until he is sitting on a YouTube channel. Well done to him

Prof needs to learn to shut his mouth. He is the very definition of someone trying to be "over clever".

He was happy to collect a paycheque from these political appointees and road the gravy train for a long period of time. Now it's all over he will suddenly find his principles.

Add him to the list of bitter ex-cricketers.

Interestingly, not a single post made by posters understand the issue here. Everyone just have an issue that why is Hafeez talking.

Hafeez has a point.

The chairman election was made compulsory by ICC, but Pakistan has managed to exploit the chairman election.

Basically, to be a chairman you need to be a a member of Board of Director. Each director is responsible for his own city, and elections are held amongest them. The winner is made Chairman.

Pakistani Pms have found a loophole in this. What they do basically is, if they want for example Rameez Raja to be made Chairman, they would first make him a BOG member for a few days, and than have elections held immediately. Any other BOG member who may stand against him would be told that he could lose his BOG membership. Thus, to make sure they dont lose their membership, they just tow the line and vote for the person that the PM asked them to.

Basically, Rameez Raja gets a direct entry into chairmanship without serving as BOG member and looking after any of the city cricket.

The whole election is flawed, and Hafeez has a point as at the end of the day, a person is selected to be chairman. The layering they do is just dramaybazi. Like an illegal business that pays taxes. They might be paying taxes but they are still laundering money.

Also, posters who are bashing Hafeez that he has no right to talk, I think out of all of us, ex cricketers or recent former cricketers have more of a right to talk than just US FANS.. These cricketers have better idea of whats happening and any such decisions affect them. Fans who dont know anything are the least effect individuals. Thus, posters here who are saying that Hafeeez has no right to talk or calling him a bitter ex cricketer are just being illogical.

This is just how, the company you work in, you have issue with the new boss that is coming in. Yet your mother in law, who has no relation or has no say in this matter says, that the employees should learn to keep their mouth shut and the new boss is a good thing.. THe new boss directly impacts the employees, not the mother in law.

Its a cute but flawed analogy. Hafeez doesn't work for the 'company'. He was forced out and has an axe to grind with Rambo.

He was happy to stay quiet when successive PCB chairmen let him ride the gravy train, supported his chucking and let him off with his foolish behaviour.

Now when the tap has been turned off he remembers his principles.

As I said, he is nothing but a bitter individual.

It was literally his job?

I am all for the privatization of the PCB. List it as an independent public corporation on the stock exchange and have the chairman or CEO answer to the shareholders and the board of directors. Similarly do the same thing for the PSL as well

Hafeez has always seemed like someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind. Even if it means alienating higher-ups at the PCB. It could have been a problem for him in the past when he was a centrally contracted player, but that is not the case anymore.

My only hope is that he retains his marbles and does not become another nutcase like our many, many other ex-cricketers who are regularly on TV.

Because on certain occasions he does talk alot of sense.

you are misinformed.

No one allowed Hafeez to chuck. Hafeez bowling was under the perimeters of ICC in the past. Thus, during that timeline, Hafeez bowling was legal. However, when ICC decided to change the laws than yes in those conditions his bowling became illegal.

Just because the laws change doesnt mean your earlier wickets become illegal. The problem is not upon hafeez but upon ICC for not having fixed laws.

Anyways, that has nothing to do with what Hafeez discussed here.

You can talk about all you want about Hafeez, but Hafeez has correctly pointed out the flaw constitution of PCB where to become chairman you can be a BOG member for just a day and get elected.

Dont hate the messenger just because his message is right

This is sad news, looks like Hafeez has upset the PCB higher ups ruling out the great genius from coaching or selector roles in the future, what a tragedy :(

Never say never. Ramiz & Imran are not going to be here for ever.

Agreed. It's not just PCB, it happens throughout the country. Every 5 years, the whole country gets a reset and it affects the whole nation just for political gains.

dont shoot the messenger, hes right, the current system is open to massive amounts of political meddling. the board should be the 6 heads of regions, 3 independent directions and 3 appointed by the government, and between them they should elect the chairman with the current chairman's vote voided.

Problem ks the govt appointed one will always win. No member would want to risk their seat.

The system should require that chairman should be a person who has spent atleast 5 years as head of some city cricket or bog member for the last 5 years

Retired Hafeez is like a human villain in a movie who dies and turns into a "badrooh" that is not scared of anything anymore. He will always target Ramiz without the fear of being prosecuted. I see him turning into Media-MoYo on steroids.

Very Brave to come out whilst still playing active as a player. Still don't think this theme of Prime minister in power choosing the chairman will change.

Hafeez shouldn't say much. Some can argue he got a really long rope as a player and should have been moved on much earlier.

Prof may be grinding the axe here but RR will be getting the chopping block ready after hearing all this. :))

Hafeez in investing in future, he thinks the most honest party in the history of Pakistan , will again make the government in Pakistan by replacing PTI in next election and by speaking up against IK now, he will get some reward. Aamir Sohail had tried the same tricks in the past, didn't work out for him.

hafeez or anyone else do not owe anything to a youngster. Infact, no cricketers owes a spot to a youngster.

If you want a spot, than come in and perform. Simple as that.

Haider Ali is yet to prove himself.

There is no politics related to Hafeez. If you dont want him in the team, than just drop him. Its not like Hafeez selects himself in the Pakistani team.

What hafeez really hates is the politics that is played with him. The PCB will mistreat him and than say that if you have an issue than just retire. This is just arm twisting and hafeez doesnt fall for it.

He was himself a politician and he benefited from the same corrupt and flawed system, his cricket was over in 2014.He used every connection to take his own batting Bowling spot, everybody knows it, that's what I have problem with,if I say something then it's ok as I had and have no stakes there , doubi standard unfortunately I don't like which is related to him.

The messenger should be shot if he has benefited from the same system he is criticising when the career is over. It's opportunistic at best and malicious at worst.

The linkage between State and Board was intended for the right reason. Pakistan post-Partition had a nonexistent cricketing infrastructure therefore needed state patronage.

However it's now outlived its usefulness.

I read in The Unquiet Ones that Arif Abbasi registered the PCB with the SECP. However when Tauqir Zia took office he reversed it.
