Mohammad Hafeez's century the highlight of Day 1 of the 1st Test between Pakistan and Australia

That was a poor innings from Azhar. He just can’t be batting at 3 anymore. Has to open or not play at all.
 
Should be looking to get 400 runs in the first inning. 150 more and Aus will be on the backfoot.
The kind of drift the pitch already has, makes me think Yasir will be pretty dangerous as the game wears on.

Drift has nothing to do with the pitch
 
Midway through the final session I started watching the wall and there is this vine that I've been growing and it was climbing the wall faster than the two batsmen batting.

The first three days of cricket in UAE should be used to torture criminals with.
 
PAK has won this Test for sure. It'll depend on the length of PAK's batting in combined innings, weather this Test goes to Day 5 or not. Both Wahab & Abbas should come in the equation as well here.
 
Pakistan has this test in bag. Batting first in UAE ensures a win in most cases and Pakistan is going to put 400+ here. Played a bit slow, but this test is pretty much in Pakistan's favor.
 
Damn Hafeez played well but i'm not happy with the batting order. This will be counterproductive keeping the future matches in mind.
 
Pakistan lost control in the final session but overall you'd have taken 255-3 at stumps on Day 1.

Will be disappointing to fall short of anything less than 450.
 
Siddle and Starc will play a big role here. They are utilising reverse swing to very good effect. Lyon is also now getting some drift. But with asad shafiq, babar azam still to come, pak will atleast make 400-450.

I think Australia will be battling for a draw. They won't win though, with such an inexperienced batting line up

Hafeez ton puts Pakistan in ascendancy on Day 1 at Dubai Sports City

The 1st Test between Pakistan and Australia, in a series of two, got underway at the Dubai International Stadium today.

The lineups saw four Test debutants; Three for Australia; Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head & Aaron Finch & one for Pakistan in Bilal Asif.

Finch made his Test debut after making 93 ODI appearances, the second highest ODI appearances before earing the baggy green. The highest was Andrew Symonds, 94 ODIs.

Pakistan captain, Sarfraz Ahmed, won the toss and elected to bat.

Mohammad Hafeez, who was making a comeback to the Pakistan Test fold after two years, started in fine fashion. Imam ul Haq, who was playing is 4th Test, complimented him from the other end. Both guided the score to 89/0 at Lunch. Hafeez was at 48*, while Imam managed 36* ahead of the respite.

Mohammad Hafeez completed his half-century, in the very first over after the resumption of play. Imam ul Haq continued the good work from the other end and completed his half-century.

Australia finally broke-through in the 63rd over, but not before Pakistani openers had put 205 on the board. Imam was caught behind off Nathan Lyon.

Imam scored a career best of 76.

Peter Siddle, finally found success, as he dismissed the centurion for 126.

Late in the day's play, Azhar Ali lost his wicket to John Holland.

Pakistan reached 255/3 at the close of play.

All Hafeez haters here must be struggling to explain this wonderful innings. Can't understand why so many people dislike him when he is no worse then most of our batsmen. At least he scores quickly once he gets going. I like him for his attack minded approach.
 
A good day but it could have been a great day.

They let it slip late-on with some very negative batting.
 
I predicted Mohammed Hafeez to succeed and he did. Awesome batsman he is!
 
Good day overall for Pakistan. I think we should bat all/most of tomorrow and try and bore the Australians. Then hopefully get them all out for a low score.
 
Hafeez could also end up with a bunch of wickets to his name....
 
Pakistan hasn't come out of Misbah's tuk took theory in batting.What kind of innings it was from Azhar? 18 of 80??!! This is really very poor. He could have made a 50 before getting out. That means Pakistan would have been 287 .And Haris 15 of 53!!!? This has been a disgusting boring batting. Negative cricket.
