Mohammad Rizwan gets into poor positions whilst playing some shots

Don't compare the two. Umar Akmal is a far dynamic and better player.

Rizwan is very limited and struggles against both pace+spin. Can't hit either.
 
Should bat higher up. Being sent in so late when jobbers like Sarfraz botch the momentum.
 
Rate him a lot, but would be fair if Akmal started over him against Australia.

Either way, he shall remain a squad option.
 
He would be good in the middle order but sadly there is no room. Maybe when Malik retires. For now, Umar needs to take his spot at #6.
 
Rizwan doesnt have the right role. He is going through the same Fawad Alam syndrome. He is not a big hitter of the ball and is again someone who prefers to play in the middle. Unfortunately we do not have any opening there for the time being unless Malik departs. He should surely be kept around as a backup but we need a power hitter at 6 someone who can hit it big. Umar Akmal is most suited to this role if he gets his head in the game and unfortunately team management still isnt able to address this issue which will haunt them come Australia.
 
He's a good yes man. Doesn't mind carrying the drinks with a smile on his face and doesn't complain in the media about not being picked. Perfect for PCB!

Anyone with some eye for talent will know Rizwan is damn talented, just needs to be persisted with. Umar is a TTF, he couldn't satisfy us in his first stint, now out of desperation we are turning towards him again, lol, this is foolishness.

No No for PP'ers the best people are those that aren't even in the team. Fazul useless batsmen with zero performance like Ahsan Ali are deemed to be better than the blokes that have performed year after year, just because they can hit a stylish cover drive or two.

PP's darling Saud Shakeel flopped in England AND Zimbabwe, but he is better because stylish. LOL
 
Needs a run at number 4 or 5 so we can judge him properly. Unlikely to get that chance due to good performance of Sarfraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik.

Can you please describe his talent at how to play spin or take singles? Or play any form of movement ?

Or his average of 27 against top 8 opposition?

Not a charming batsman by any means. I still cannot work out what exactly his strength is in batting? He jumps to play the pull shot for crying out loud!

Mohammad Rizwan's Last 1 year Performance in Odi Cricket.


11 matches 114 runs at an Average of 14.25 and a SR of 79.42 with a highest score of 34*


Following is [MENTION=5869]yasir[/MENTION] Bhai's analysis with which I agree.

" Rizwan has quite a few technical flaws, his balance is poor, falls over many times on swinging deliveries. He does not read spinner from the hand, as a result he is poor against them. Plus he does not have many shots either. He has not improved his batting skills in last 2 years "



This is not the End for Mohammad Rizwan like it was not the end for Steve Smith when he got dropped. He needs to Sit with a Professional Batting Coach and go back to the Drawing Board. Figure out all his technical glitches than work on those in Nets and Practice the changes in Domestic Cricket, improve his game and than comeback as a stronger, better and improved player. Coach should also simulate match situation in Nets (the way Aussies do) and work on his calling and assesment of run while taking singles and doubles.

Why the heck would you take single on the first ball and expose the tail against Wagner? No brains and cricket sense at all. Wagner goes on to take the last three wickets. Good Job Rizwan and congrats for the retention.
 
Let's not put it all on him, yes it was stupid of him to take a single but surely the rest (amir, Wahab and Immy) should know how to hold a bat... We're carrying 3 #11s...With SK being a #9 at best.

Alot of blame goes to Amir and Wahab.. someone like them have been playing for Pakistan for long.. there is no way you can let the other team win from a situation like this.. we just gave them 3 wickets on a plate
 
The recent delivery to Mitch Marsh, he looked all at sea.. it was too high to be lbw

A couple of awkward play and misses..

Once down the pitch to a spinner but got his leg out to survive that..

A couple of sweeps to the spinner which could've been lbw

Rizwan probably has more brain than Umar Akmal.. but he needs to sort a few glaring problems in his technique..

His head is not steady when playing a defensive stroke.. he looks to be falling over
 
He's not a batsman, he's not a keeper.

He's a specialist fielder.
 
Has done nothing of note in international cricket. Specialist fielder is right.
 
Rizwan has regressed a lot as a batsman in the last 6 months or so. Balance has always been a problem but he is in shambles at the moment. He is never in a good position to play any shot and is all over the place with his head position which affects everything.

The key to good batting and is balance, and they key to balance is your head position. Get your head position right and everything will follow.

I wonder what is G. Flower doing with him in the nets? If he is all over the place on the pitch, he is also all over the place in the nets. Why hasn't there been any noticeable improvement considering the fact that it has always been a problem for him?

On a brighter note, his keeping right now is better than ever, and looks more organized with the gloves at the moment than Sarfraz.
 
Pakistan cannot afford to play Rizwan just because he is a better keeper. Their batting is already weak. Though, Sarfraz is no Latif or Healy but his keeping is not like Kamran's and he is a much improved limited overs batsman so I will pick Sarfraz over Rizwan at the moment.

The only way Rizwan can find a spot on the team is that he improves his batting.
 
agree. has taken some good catches thus far. there was one if imad to a left hqnder that im sure sarfaraz aould have dropped

Tbh I'm getting tired of Sarfraz style of play, which doesn't really suit LOIs. Struggles vs. pace specially.
 
All this time sitting on the bench has not helped him. Hopefully he has gotten this shocker out of the system in the first odi.

But his struggle against spin is getting worse: the only reason smith was able to use head in the first odi was because of the way Rizwan batted

What have you been watching?

He doesn't struggle against pace. He may not be able hit a boundary as often as he does against the spinners, but that doesn't mean he struggles against the quicker men.
 
Guys can we afford a specialist keeper in a team who already struggles in batting? If we can then i am all for rizwan over sarfraz.
 
His batting decline started with poor run outs. On few occasions he simply ran without knowing where the ball has gone.

A lot hated me for calling Rizwan a socialist fielder. I guess you too weren't showered with good words.

I don't know why so many on here thought he was a superior bat to Sarfraz. Offers nothing as a batsman.
 
Joke of a batsman as stated earlier in this thread. Kamran Akmal would have been 10x better than Rizwan for this tour.
 
Really disappointed in his batting. He had a good start to his career but since the 2015 series against SL, his batting has massively gone downhill. He is not even club level atm. Should be dropped immediately.
 
Very hard to understand how Rizwan has managed to keep his place in the side, even if you don't want Kamran select someone else but not this man.
 
He looks like an accumulator rather than a hitter. I'm not sure what we are expecting from him coming in at number 6. Not even sure why he is playing limited overs cricket in the first place.
 
There was this keeper, Mohammad Salman, he made a 100 in a domestic t20 game, he played one International t20 and ODI, but never to seen again after that..

And then there's Rizwan.. gets out playing rubbish time and time again.. but we still have him

The worst thing is his game vs spin, he struggles against part time spinners... needs to be dropped
 
I've been disappointed by his batting performance after all the hype by some Ppers. What position does he bat at domestic?
 
The guy was selected after his domestic T20 heroics in 2012-2013?? and never got dropped again if I'm not wrong. You see the selection and the logics behind by our great selectors. Kamran has been leading batting charts in all formats yet he is ignored and this guy keeps getting picked. I'm sorry but Rizwan you need to go back to domestic cricket and work hard on your batting. May be in near future you may be ready for a replacement of Sarfraz in tests but right now you should not e in the squad.
 
Those mentioning Shakeel Ansar, that 100 was a one-off thing. He averaged less than 20 in all formats when he was selected for the national team. Thankfully, he was never picked again.
 
He wasn't that bad when he made his debut. Regressing with every tour.

I actually have a soft spot for him because of his fielding skills. I believe apart from playing eleven, you must have one top fielder in the squad. Can be invaluable as a substitute fielder for a team like Pakistan. Its unfortunate that our only such options are Rizwan and Anwar Ali :dada

This is not the end of Rizwan. He will be back with bang. He is just 25. He is a fast learner. His wicket keeping improved tremendously since his debut. He will improve his batting too. He has grit and determination. Now he will know his limitations and the things to work upon . Now watch this space......
 
Certainly not the end of him, Sarfraz looked hopeless in South Africa and look where he is now.

So certainly not over for Rizwan.

He's not a bad batsman technically, just not sure there's a place for this type of accumulator in the modern limited over game. Definitely not at no 6 anyway.

People hate me for calling out players who are inept and can't succeed in the modern international arena. But then, see it with their own eyes a year or so later.

I'm going to say it now...the man is an awful batsmen, that still hasn't improved his game vs spin, when the majority of fans and pundits could see his weakness. The ONLY upside to Rizwan is his fielding and nothing more.

Remember when some users on here preferred Rizwan over Srafraz?

It is true that he isn't a no. 6 player. But he can give tough time to Sarfaraz in tests if he improves his batting. Sarfaraz's keeping is poor.Maybe even in ODIs he can play Sarfaraz role since Sarfaraz barely plays at 100+ strike rate and bats at no. 5. But now Sarfaraz is going to be the captain.
 
Since October 2015 he has been needlessly carried with the team. He got exposed on fast indippers, Fast bouncers at neck height and all types of spin bowling.

This required rest and work on game but series after series he was picked and his confidence and game deteriorated more and more.


Now for heavens sake rest/drop him. He is hardworker so he will bounce back.


Replace him in the Odi squad with Haris Sohail or Saad Ali or Saud Shakeel. Any amongst these 3 left handers. I won't mind.
 
Has too many weaknesses in his batting that gets exposed internationally.

Batting at #6 makes it worse.
 
Never thought he was anything special

Hopefully he won't be back in international side for a long time
But then again just look at shafiq
