Mohammad Rizwan to lead Pakistan in three ODIs against West Indies

Mohammad Rizwan will lead Pakistan in the three-match ODI series against West Indies as the Men’s National Selection Committee named a 16-member ODI squad on Friday. The series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago on 8, 10 and 12 August.

Right-handed batter Hasan Nawaz is the only uncapped player in the ODI squad, while Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi are part of the ODI squad.

Pakistan will also play three T20Is against the West Indies, scheduled on 31 July, 2 and 3 August, at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, USA. Salman Ali Agha will captain the T20I side, while fast bowlers Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi return to the squad in this format.

Following the conclusion of the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh, Pakistan will arrive in the USA on Sunday, 27 July.

15-member squad for T20Is:

For T20's, looks like Mirza/Daniyal/Abbas dropped for Shaheen/Rauf/Hasan Ali. No Wasim Jr. in either squads so I am guessing he might be injured. I think Abbas could have probably stayed but it seems like Faheem is their 1st choice for pace all rounder. I know people will be mad with the Mirza drop but he did only play in the Bangladesh series due to many bowlers being rested/injured. I am okay with it. You've given him a look and know he's a decent backup option if Shaheen struggles/get injured.

For ODI's, Naseem is in the squad. No Khushdil and the surprising inclusion is Hasan Nawaz and they have added Haris. It's crazy that domestically, Hasan has only played 5 List A matches and somehow he has more FC matches than List A. Just a shockingly poor domestic setup we have. I do however like the inclusion despite being inexperience and untested much in 50 over cricket simply because of the upside he has shown in T20's. He is great vs spin and my guess is he could be in that 5/6 spot with Agha as rest of the lineup is relatively settled. Could be a good way for Pakistan to fix its middle order issues and get some power down in the order. I would assume Haris is included for similar reasons to compete for that spot with Hasan.

Nawaz makes a comeback in ODI's simply because Pakistan have very few all around options.

I am good with the squads. Just happy to see Babar/Rizwan continuing to be excluded from T20's.

pathetic to see nawaz making it into ODI squad as well..

Someone please tell me why Salman mirza is dropped???
Not a fan of dropping him, the best time to see how he goes against good opposition is when his confidence is high, he has already gelled with the squad too.

Momin bro happy with the squad look good to me
Agha should have been backed as captain over rizwan, if they are starting fresh then start fresh.

Farhan should have been in the team 100% as a backup opener and batsmen. The fact that Abdullah shafique is in over Farhan is a travesty and a comedy.

Rest is fine but I better see sufiyan in the playing 11 over abrar

Ya same here sufiyan has to be in there any reason why salman mirza dropped?

Dropping Salman is a stupid decision. At the risk of repeating myself, always back in-form players. This will be disheartening for him unless it was properly planned and the guy knew he would be rotated out (too much to expect from our management). Khushdil and Nawaz are lucky to get another go. Ideally, this should be their last chance.

Don't understand why Nawaz and Talat are there in both squads. Could have tried a youngster like Arafat or Shahid Aziz in one of the formats instead.

On T20I Squad:

First of all. RIP. Pakistan will be playing their T20Is in USA. I hope the nightmare stays away and pitches are better.

As expected. Inclusion of Shaheen, Hasan and Rauf were needed as they are your premier pacers for this format.

Surprising to see they have kept in Hussain Talat - he didn't even performed in the PSL. Must be a liking of Coach. He's not the no. 6 Pakistan need.

No Shadab Khan. I assume he's still recovering. Otherwise he will be a very useful all rounder for the side going forward. When he gets fit, I expect him to replace M Nawaz.

Rest is alright. Some continuity should happen.

Farhan should have been there in ODIs too but for ODIs, top order is packed so I see no use of him there until saim or fakhar get injured then he can replace...

Salman Mirza was dropped for nothing... He was your best bowler in 3 match series and you dropped him... How stupid is this..

Tell me why nawaz is in these squads??? Parchi?

Bro why salman mirza dropped and what about kamran ghulam and amir jamal what have they done wrong to be not picked again.

On ODI Squad:

I don't think it matters much. All the eyes and focus is on the T20I format. West Indies also doesn't seem like very focused on the format. They have had their own problems recently. Though that may change with this series, given the meetings their board had to have following the disaster vs Austarlia. A reality check.

Good to see they have retained Rizwan as captain. He should continue. No need to panic. Abdullah is back which I'm fine with.

Hasan Nawaz is a welcome addition. He may not have the numbers in List A right now but he's picked on the eye because of his talent and potential. He's also really good with rotation of strike and chasing the scoreboard, he will surprise people. His addition I think will pay off in times to come. I see him being an integral part of Pakistan's 2027 WC squad.

Faheem persisted again. I don't mind him in T20s as bits and pieces like him work and he has been bowling decently in the 4 overs setup. But for ODIs its too much.

Hussain Talat again here. Though this is a format that's better suited to him than T20Is. So I'm willing to give him a chance here.

Haris Rauf's exclusion is surprising. Given he was superb in Australia and South Africa.

Naseem Shah has to pick up his game. Before the shoulder injury he had great performances and numbers in this format but since then he has nosedived.

Muqeem is a welcome addition. I hope they play him on this tour and not just use him as bench warmer like they did against Bangladesh.

He's dropped because seniors are back. I think he should've been there instead of Talat or at least Ghulam. Jamal should've been given all these chances instead of Faheem but Jamal has fallen off the network.

Why drop players off the back of good performances? What kind of message does this send to them.

also whats the justification for Khushdil?

Rauf was only good in 2 ODI's on early season Australian pitches.

Didn't pick a single wicket in South Africa and was poor both in Champions Trophy and in NZ.

And this was after that disastrous 2023 World Cup as well.

Looks like he is not in the 2027 CWC plans unless his replacement flops even worse.

WI are definitely focussed on ODIs. They want automatic qualification for 2027.

If they weren't serious, they would have cancelled the ODI leg as per PCB demands.

Why have they discarded irfan niazi from both t20s and now odis as well. I think they're forgetting the carnage he did against lahore qalandars, haris rauf and shaheen afridi chasing 48 of 18. Why is khushdil in t20s, he should be in odis instead.

we want to exclude Babar with SR of 129 , then go on and add Shah at 103 SR nad Talat with 117 SR.. Makes no sense
Our selections have never made sense. You disrespect the game, the game disrespects you. Drop Babar by all means if you have Lara and Bradman waiting. Terrible to drop your GOAT T20 player.

Babar is no GOAT.. but he makes to team because there is no talent coming in which is better than him
Current talent is best of what we ve got since 2010, correct me if i am wrong by naming one batsman except umar akmal better than what we have right now in lois

It is criminal that these two legends :faheem:ht have made it to both squads while Abbas Afridi, Farhan (ODIs), Salman Mirza and Wasim Jr are ignored. We are our biggest enemies and it is disappointing that even Hesson cannot curb these nepotistic selections.

I suspect that Abbas Afridi and Wasim jr are intentionally kept out for :ns this guy's parchi to have a free run. Hussain Talat seems to have some strong pawa as well unless Hesson sees something in him in which case we are truly doomed.

Why are we going to continue with the usual suspects in ODI’s? Get rid of the snakes for good, an embarrassing home ICC campaign for the ages and this is their reward. A conspiring mentally deformed non-binary entity should never be given the armband for a local village side, let alone an international team. Pathetic.

There it is , the circle journey completed by PCB ,very predictable nevertheless beating WI is no way to check the level of team

Saim
Fakhar(backup abdullah)
Babar
Rizwan
Agha
Hasan nawaz
Faheem ashraf
Hasan ali
Shaheen shah
Abrar
Sufyan/Naseem

This will be most likely xi, can compete with top teams if babar rizwan do not play dot balls.

Should not have dropped Mirza that is ridiculous.
Khushdil still in the squad despite poor t20 strike rate.
Farhaan should have been in the odi squad instead of Abdullah.

Saim
Fakhar
Babar
Agha
Rizwan
Hassan Nawaz
Fahim ashraf
Hassan Ali
Shaheen Afridi
Abrar Ahmed
Naseem Shah

Why is Salman Mirza and Abbas Afridi dropped from T20 squad? Instead of giving them a chance in Odi squad as well, they are dropped from squads. While Mohd Nawaz (who failed twice before getting a lucky slog ) and Mohd Harris (who failed badly) get into both sides ? Why

Haris is thier as a back up keeper in tests.I agree Salman should have been in the squad he bowled pretty well.

Lauderhill is generally known for producing good T20 wickets. West Indies have played a bunch of T20s here against India and some against other teams too. It was only during the T20 WC that they produced some truly horrible pitches all over USA

Haris literally scored a century in the last series. You want him to be dropped after a few bad games?

Not sure how sufiyan could not get a single game but this Nawaz guy entered the ODI squad also. Salman mirza should have been there as well.. Our selectors once again doing the unthinkable.

The second contingent of the national squad departs from Dhaka to Lauderhill via Dubai

The second group includes Mohammad Haris, Hussain Talat, Hasan Nawaz, Sufiyan Muqeem, Sahibzada Farhan, coaches, and support staff.

The national cricket team will play a three-match T20I series against West Indies.

The first match of the series will be played on July 31.

Who are the selectors making no sense in chopping and changing unnecessarily salman mirza was our best pacer in last series now he's discarded ridiculous also mohd nawaz what has he done to deserve a place
