Just look at the quality of first three wickets. Looks like it’s still 2010 wrt his physique, fitness, skillset, ability and magic. Can’t believe my eyes because 8 years have lapsed and for 6 years he did not play any competitive cricket.

He is 35 years old now.. What a waste of a career.
 
Also it looks like his pace has been dropped significantly.. Most of these wickets seem like batsmen expecting the ball to come early and played it too soon. The experienced batsmen won't make this mistake tho..

Good thing is that swing is still there.. But with this pace he won't be too effective in international cricket and would struggle taking wickets with the old ball.

He is operating at the same pace as Mohammad Abass.


75 % of Asif’s wickets came on deliveries which were bowled at 76-81 mph speed.


Walsh played Test Cricket until age 39 and Hadlee until age 40. So wrt Asif age is not an issue.

It's PCB's policy to not select S Butt or M Asif. Even if he takes 80+ wickets in a season they will not include him.

It is what it is.
 
Imagine Asif and Amir bowling together .. will spread havoc in the opposition.

Do you really think it is unjustified of PCB to keep Butt and Asif out after what they did?

Do you think they even deserve to play for the nation ever again?

Asif was a great bowler and all that's fine. But I'd rather have a trundler who goes for 70 runs in a day the have someone like Asif back in my team.

If you bother to read the findings of the ICC Tribunal:

1. Mohammad Amir bowled two no balls for money, and marked notes were found in his possession. Amir’s Behaviour on the preceding Oval Test was also suspicious.

2. Mohammad Asif refused the fix, eventually he succumbed to his agent’s pressure and bowled one no-ball for no reward. No marked money or new purchases were found in his possession.

The PCB was seduced by Amir’s dubious “age” and brought back the guiltier of the two fast bowlers.

But even Amir’s age of “18” is arguably proof of a pattern of persistent dishonesty.

I repeat, Pakistan IMHO brought back the wrong bowler.

I have always agreed with Ramiz Raja that Amir shouldn't have been brought back either.

Country is bigger than any individual.

I guess the difference is that I’m 99.99% certain that I could name multiple fixers from almost every international team. I won’t, because I’d be moderated and banned for having no proof.

Other Boards just cover up and whitewash scandals.

Let me give you an example which is undeniable fact, and won’t be moderated.

Steve Smith gave an interview immediately after the close of play after the ball tampering was filmed in Cape Town.

And he said that Bancroft, Warner and himself planned it with the leadership group.

Did he mean the senior bowlers - Hazlewood, Lyon and Starc - who bowled with a patently mutilated ball?

Did he mean Paine?

Cricket Australia completed an investigation which consisted of nothing more than asking them “Did you do it?”

And they all said no.

So Cricket Australia concluded that they were all Not Guilty.

The problem with your approach is that Pakistan would punish their own offenders for longer than their actual sentences, and field a weakened team against opponents whose offenders are shielded and selected.

Tampering and fixing are two very different offences. One of them is a penal offence and the other is just a rule in the sport of cricket.

But anyway, whomever the player is, whatever his or her nationality, I don't like fixers coming back to play for the national team.

I don't like the fact that Ajay Jadeja and Azhar still get to be experts and commentators on TV. And I am glad that BCCI hasn't allowed Sreesanth back into cricket, even though at one point he was our most promising fast bowler.

Sure: I only quoted tampering because the evidence of Smith’s leadership group comments is universally accessible.

Remember, two Aussie batsmen have been accused of spotfixing v Zimbabwe at the 2011 World Cup. And again, Cricket Australia exonerated them because they said they didn’t do it!
 
Why not bring Wasim back too. If your criteria is that he is better than Amir, Wasim at this age would definitely be better than him (current Amir).

Better to invest in some Under -19 bowlers than an aging bowler who has no respect for his natural gifts.

But there is a difference between an accusation and proof. If I'm not wrong, Butt, Asif and Amir all confessed.

I hope no board protects any player, no matter how "big" they are. Because like I said, no individual can be bigger than the nation.

Asif confessed to a much lower level offence, which is what the ICC convicted him for.

Amir and Butt were found to have News of the World marked banknotes in their possession, and eventually both confessed to conspiring to bowl no balls for financial reward.

In terms of cricket - not the English legal system - Asif was convicted of a much lesser offence.

Asif’s Manager has been asked by the newspaper journalist to get Amir and Asif - the team’s best known players - to bowl no balls as a sign that the Manager could orchestrate fixing within the team.

Amir agreed. And was paid for more than one no ball.

Asif refused multiple times. As the ICC findings record, in the end Asif was begged by his manager to bowl a single no ball. And in the end Asif only agreed to do it as a favour, for no payment or other reward.

Amir and Butt were crooks, and Amir got his career back.

Asif lost his career for being weak and obliging.

(Interestingly, the English criminal trial ended up convicting Asif of taking money for the no ball, which even the prosecution stated he had not done. And his barrister - the brother of former British Prime Minister David Cameron - explained at his appeal that the British jury had committed a miscarriage of justice because all three men were tried together to save money, and the jury clearly did not understand that Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were two different people!)

Undoubtedly Mohammad Asif is the best Red Ball pacer in Pakistan across all age brackets.

Since his return to F.C. Cricket No bowler in Pak has had better @Ave & SR than Asif.

I saw a video of Asif bowling in domestic cricket. Clearly looked like someone operating at 123-125 km/hr. Even Shan Masood was playing him with ease

I would take these domestic stats with a pinch of salt.

What a sad waste of talent
 
Abbas and Asif are twin bowlers. Both right hand medium-fast swingers.
 
Bring this once-in-a-generation bowler back for one last time.

He can do his nation pride by winning the WC.
 
Let Asif come back indeed. As a domestic bowling coach to identify and work with promising pacers.
Let him pass on his skills and help make amends for the disgrace he brought upon his country

Watching Asif’s videos makes me wonder what a gem he would’ve been...
 
Come back as what . bowling coach ? He WAS great bowler, but now would be worst than Amir. He has not done anything worth mentioning in FC cricket since his return and unlike Amir, he is too old for a fast bowler.
 
The PCB won't bring him back now and he simply wouldn't have the fitness to play top level international cricket after being absent for more than 8 years.

By the way why he isn’t playing QEA
 
Doesn’t matter how he comes back. As a bowler, as a net bowler as a bowling coach whatever. So much knowledge and skill shouldn’t be squandered.

Right now if he was bowling to our batsmen in the nets as practice for hazelwood and Cummins he’s be getting them out at least once in an over.
 
Asif probably has the best bowling brain in our history. You can tell by his interviews that he will make an excellent bowling coach. Unfortunately his past wont allow that. Abass credits all his success to him. Even Amir when he was playing alongside Asif was a completely different bowler.
 
I think he can still play test cricket for one or 2 years

Or else he should be in as bowling coach he is already doing coaching courses so in future he should be a coach
He has great bowling brain
