Moral decay in the West

Here people are giving examples of single Parents as one of the prime example of moral decay, looks like those people have not landed in countries like Pakistan(there would be many more I guess, but since I know Pakistan and USA the best, I can only quote them)...


Child Labor and Pakistan

In Pakistan more than 1/3 of kids never go to school, they start child labor at very young age. During my last visit in pretty much every home I went, there were children(the low borns poor kids) who were taking care of the other children(the high borns). If you go in Bazaar, every chat/Takki/bookstore/workshop etc shop(small business had a Chatta(a low born poor kid) who does the dirty work of selling goods to the new customers. Customers treat these kids with least amount of respect, all their frustration of the day were vented upon them. In houses the older servants treat them with disrespect, these kids have not seen any childhood, their parents sell them to high borns, usually couple of 100Ks for 2 years, and they keep on producing more kids, for them its the only way to make money.

One particular example was a girl name Samina in Multan(where my wife's relative live and we have to stay there for a week or so because of serious illness in her family), that was my first time staying for a week in Multan. Samina was barely 10/11 years old, her main duty was to baby sit two young kids(4 and 2 years old) of the house, but when there are guest she had to step up the game. My kids have little to no understanding of servants(that was their first visit to Pakistan) and I told them specifically that you cannot ask her for anything and play with her only if she wants too.

I came to know that she had 8 other siblings, who are also working like her in various houses. They were giving her Rs 5000/month and most if not all of that money was going to her parents. She appear to be a pretty bright girl, I asked her, why you are not going to school? - she was not running from education but cannot afford, it brought tears to my eyes. She did not understand the kind of cruelty society is doing to her. I came to know, quiet a few houses have that situation, its almost like a business as usual for anybody who can afford. Many of my friends and family back home Brag a lot about cheap labor, they don't know the real cost of that cheap labor. These kids grow up to become like there parents and cycle continue. They don't see childhood, nobody treats them nicely, life is living hell for them, saddest part they think its their Naseeb, they are the low born. Most people(most of them are pretty religious too, prays 5 times and high on God all the time), don't see anything wrong with that. Now that I call, not just decay but free fall of morals

I find it ironic, when people we call West as immoral, we are much worse then them!!

Just because other areas are worse in many regards doesn't mean the west is the land of milk and honey where everything is happy days.

Because yes, it has moral issues. It's not a land of milk and honey and everything is not happy days.
I dont see the point of acknowledging this fact especially if the purpose is to just satisfy pre-conceived biases. There's no utopia anywhere.

Of course im open to the discussion otherwise I wouldn't bother to post. I just dont want people to simply say well the east is worse etc.

Well as many have pointed out in this thread, the east does have moral deficiencies as well, in fact there are plenty of threads already running on the subcontinent and the Arab countries which should make that obvious enough. I don't see what harm it does to discuss the western dilemmas if only to show how they deal with them more effectively if that is the case.

Majority of the points being discussed seem to have little to do with east or west. There is no point comparing affluent first world nations with poor third world countries because you can't apply the same standard of morality across the board. A starving person stealing food and a rich man shoplifting can't be measured with the same yardstick.
