Moving Back to Pakistan

It's been long my family has been settled in Dubai, My father has been working as an Engineer for 35 Years now. It was handwork for him as he landed here in Negative and then to bring up his family all his 3 Son's pursuing Degree's.

I myself am working in the same industry from the past 4 years and i feel its time my parents take a break now from all their scheduled life. My father has been on payroll for 35 years he doesn't own any business here.

We have done pretty decent in Pakistan with annual visits, building up couple of houses and a commercial building which can feed the family well just through the rents.

My Brothers are also respectively nearing their final year for their bachelors. So the tuition fee is what i can manage from my end.

Residing in Bahria Pakistan, I am least concerned about security , Health Care , Living standards. As i feel from my observation that life is easy in Pakistan in comparison to countries in Gulf.

We do also have a very fine living standard here but i don't know i feel that life in Pakistan is easier and the seasonal wedding , get together in Pakistan with the extended family keeps a person busy. I plan to let my Brothers join my parents back home in Pakistan to support and start up some business.

Any suggestions regarding what business can be started and what channels to approach?

Any Universities to pursue Engineering Msc. in Pakistan?

In your Opinion which place would be better to stay?

Don't want to be skeptic but please make sure to check out the pollution levels in air and water before moving back to South Asia considering you would be living in a city.

In India rural areas have fresh air and certain areas have good water as well but the cities are crowded and most people who even move back and live in these "closed gated communities" aren't really that healthy or happy compared to the western countries(incase u can migrate to one).

That said, since the OP is relatively young, he should consider what the job opportunities in Pakistan are like before moving there.

This can be a huge source of frustration for Indians and Pakistanis returning to their homelands after living abroad. There is too much hype going around about all the opportunities and returnees are faced with the harsh reality only after their return.

I'm in a similar boat as you. I have been working here in Canada for 3-4 years and have built up a handsome amount of saving (Mashallah se) and would be transferring that to Pakistan. Then I intend to use the savings to import CNC machines from China and start a small manufacturing business for autoparts and spare parts for machinery. I have been taking courses related to CNC programming for the last year or so and feel like I have developed enough command over the machine to manufacture slightly complex parts.

The thing is market is not very open to foreign graduates only way to establish is self own a firm but I am very much interested in Introducing IAQ (indoor air quality ) sector in Pakistan. It's comparatively a new market and with an HVACR exhibition in April I tend to hit that to market my products and technology.

The media every day Dents my approach with all the negativity and the political circus but on the other hand when I talk to people already established back home they are least bothered and seem to have no clue about the mess.

That's amazing! What kind electrical equipment are you looking forward to market?

There is a exhibition coming up in Lahore somewhere around April I would suggest you to get some info about it as it may turn out to be a good marketing platform.

The thing is you turn on to any news channel within the first couple of headlines you want to cancel all the plan but the matter of fact people living out there are least bothered and are unaware of all the happening still enjoying day to day life with the best of facilities which they can afford.

Word of advice. I don't know about the Bahrias in Lahore and Karachi but if you're living in the one in Islamabad, don't take security for granted. Robberies and muggings are not uncommon and there have been incidents recently where people were robbed right outside their homes in broad daylight.

There's a Bahria in E8? When? Where? I thought the E sectors, apart from E-7 and E-11, were khaki country. The main Bahria here is in the no man's land between Pindi and Islamabad on GT Road and another one near Chak Shehzad(Bahria Enclave).

Lahore is the best city to live in Pakistan in my opinion. I'm not a fan of Islamabad's vibe and although Peshawar has improved massively, it is still nothing compared to big cities like Lahore and Karachi.

I'm a bit biased towards Lahore because I have spent/spend a lot of time there and have many great childhood memories and experiences.

Also because I belong to and live in Peshawar, the distance between Peshawar and Karachi sort of puts me off. I might not be able to live in Peshawar in the future due to my job but I would definitely prefer to live in a city which is close enough so that I can drive to Peshawar frequently.

Would not want to go beyond Lahore but I don't want to live in Islamabad either and Pindi is rubbish, so I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now.

I guess I will have to pay-cut and stay in Peshawar.

Too many people to keep track of. If they start checking everyone before letting them in there will lines going back miles at all the gates. It's essentially a self contained city with a few gates, each manned by two to three guards.

Yea but civilians can't live in that place. It's only for people working in Pakistan Navy

Lahore is good in certain areas but over all Islamabad is better as a serene ,planned and clean city.

Majority of my extended family lives in Lahore but Islamabad is different. I like the bright winter sunshine in Islamabad where as winter is foggy and smoggy in Lahore.

For security purposes in Lahore, Askari housing societies are very good.

He currently resides in Dubai. Pakistan is much better compared to a country where South Asians are treated like filth. Even the weather in Pakistan can be an enough reason to move back. Somethings are exaggerated on media which makes Pakistan look like a barren wasteland.

Pakistan is actually a very very livable place if you have money. (Just the traffic needs to be a bit better)

A lot better. Islamabad had such good traffic but it's all going downhill now a days. Its mostly monkey follow monkey stuff where one guy breaks a law and others follow. I have seen it so many times that people will be waiting at the signal but one guy runs the light and other who were waiting follow suit.

I wish they increase the fine from 200-300 to 5000. Since there are cameras everywhere so the police cant even give out fake challans and the people will come back to their senses.

They have the cameras in place at every signal in Islamabad and according to the newspaper they have the tech for issuing fines too but they havent made it functional yet.

I have visited Islamabad it isn't bad at all but i agree it lacks the thrill & passion Lahore brings to one. I have no plans to shift from Lahore but my concern is the traffic though Bahria is in the outskirts of Lahore but my extended family lives in Lahore city , thanking Mr Sharif brothers it is a complete mess due to the Orange metro.

I support the fact Lahore is being developed and with this addition of metro it will be a completely a different city but project planning , alternate route planning and project scheduling none of these things were taken into consideration while commencing it.

I mean the Bahria in Lahore also has lots of cases of robbery and on weekends lots of outsiders are welcomed in to see the landmarks ( Jamia Mosque,Eiffel Tower etc....) still it's way better than what inner city. I have taken all the precautions by installing security systems at my place.

I can settle down here aswell , put up my own trade license but that involves a lot of cost and i cant own 100% business i need to have an local partner.When i think about all this it sums up that Pakistan is a better option, They have already banned Bangladeshi Work permits no idea when they end up doing the same for Pakistani.

Glad to here about that, i knew that motorway police hold up the infrared speed guns and they are pretty organised.

Yes, i agree the living standard for the low wages workers are very poor here in the Gulf and are mostly mistreated by Companies.
