MS Dhoni arranges Final ticket for Pakistan fan

Mohammed Bashir, the 62-year-old Pakistani-born restaurant owner in Chicago has reached Bangladesh for the Asia Cup.

His support is not limited to only the team of his birth-country.

"As every year I ask my tailor to provide me a new dress for the cricket tour, this time my dress which is half Pakistani and half Hindustani and the same will be worn in to-day's India-Pakistan Asia Cup match", he said exclusively over telephone from Mirpur.

"My support is for both the teams. I want Pakistan to win the match but don't want Team India to lose it either", he said before the match on Saturday.

"My wife (Rafia bibi) is an Indian. She is not travelling with me on cricket-tours. She prefers to go umrah tours to Saudi Arabia instead".

"Mahendra Singh Dhoni had provided me the pass for Saturday's match. I didn't ask Afridi to oblige me. I never speak to Afridi. Afridi may have several fans in Pakistan but unlike India, our team is not united", he further added.

Interestingly, no known cheerleaders from Pakistan have traveled to Bangladesh.

"I didn't get visas in time. The embassy office here in UAE promised me to grant Bangladesh visas only on Monday and there was no point going over there after Saturday's very important match", Chacha Zaman said over telephone from Dubai.

"I was present (here) during recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches. I am leaving for Pakistan on Sunday and will apply for India visas for the World T20", he further added.

Chacha Cricket (Abdul Jalil) could not find a sponsor for the Asia Cup. He found a sponsor for the recently played Masters Cricket League (MCL) in UAE but had to return to Pakistan for want of sponsors for PSL.

"Our government and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are not helping us to get visas and hence we are finding it difficult now to travel with the team on tours", Chacha Zaman added.

Team India's die-hard fan Sudhir Kumar Gautam is already in Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi tiger-fan Shoaib Ali was confused on which team to support on Saturday. "Half the time I shall be with Chacha Bashir and half with Sudhir Kumar", speaking exclusively from Mirpur before the match, he had said.

All these Asian cheerleaders will be travelling to India for the World T20.

Hats off to these guys but are they any different from other fans?

Thats silly, Why would you even think that way

That's correct. He owns the restaurant

Dhoni again arranged tickets for this guy and i think he is taking advantage of dhoni a bit.

I saw an interview where he called Dhoni and asked for tickets, Dhoni asked him to come an pick it up from his hotel but this guy said he is a poor man and cannot afford fare to and back from his hotel to dhoni's hotel then dhoni had someone delivered the ticket to him.

I mean come on, a guy like dhoni is helping you to get you free tickets and you want them to be delivered at your doorsteps.

That guy is the only owner of one of the busiest Indian restaurants in Chicago. I think you are probably confused with some one else. Theres another Pakistani chacha that's poor and is the real fan

No man, i am talking about Chicago Chacha. The same guy who was once begging for tickets in mohali

MS Dhoni is one of the most popular cricketers across the globe. The former India captain has won many hearts with the way he carries himself on and off the field. Apart from playing a match-winning knock in the final of World Cup 2011, Dhoni was also in the news for providing match tickets for a Pakistan-born cricket fan, Mohammad Bashir aka "Chacha Chicago". Since then, his bond with MS Dhoni has blossomed. Bashir has so much trust in Dhoni that he has travelled all the way to Manchester from Chicago to witness the marquee contest between India vs Pakistan without buying tickets. The two teams will lock horns at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Talking to PTI, Bashir said that he knows Dhoni will make sure that he is at the stadium when the first ball is bowled.

"I arrived here yesterday and saw that people are ready to pay as much as 800-900 pounds for a ticket. A return ticket from Chicago costs the same. Thanks to Dhoni, I don't have to struggle for a match ticket," the 63-year-old, who owns a restaurant in Chicago and is an American passport holder, said.

Thanks to Dhoni's benevolence, Bashir supports the Men in Blue over the country of his birth during any India vs Pakistan game. Dhoni is someone who is not easily accessible for even his teammates at times but has never disappointed Bashir.

"I don't call him as he is so busy. I keep in touch only through text messages. Long before I came here, Dhoni assured me of the ticket. He is a great human being. I can't think of anyone else doing what he has done for me since that 2011 game in Mohali," Bashir said.

India vs Pakistan is one such contest, for which fans are willing to pay a fortune and thanks to the 37-year-old Dhoni, Bashir gets to watch the exciting contest for free.

"Imagine I get the ticket for free when most would pay a fortune for it. I have got a surprise gift for him this time and I hope to give it to him later today," Bashir added.

After arriving in Manchester, he checked into the Pakistan's team hotel where he met most of the squad members including captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Amir and Hassan Ali.

One of his selfies was with Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis star wife Sania Mirza, an Indo-Pak union just like him and his wife. He checks into the Indian team hotel later on Friday.

Bashir, who has overcome three heart attacks, carries as many 12 medicines when he is travelling. Before coming to the UK, he was in Saudi Arabia with his grandson during the holy month of Ramadan.

"It is not easy with my medical condition. Ab toh aisa lagta hain jab tak cricket chal rahi tab tak saasen chal rahi hain (May be I am alive only for cricket)," Bashir added.

Dhoni has no issues with common men from any country, in fact he loves them! He is a peaceful guy!

Dhoni is a legend.

But damn he even converted Chacha Cricket to support India over Pakistan in Ind v Pak games, that is something. Kindness so powerful.

Although Dhoni comes across as a kind person.

I have seen his angry side with my own 2 eyes and boy. He does carry a huge temper.

That fraud chacha is a selfish man. Nothing else to see here. Is this something to be proud of that he supports an enemy nation because his tickets have been arranged by the opposition player? Pakistan can do without such "fans".

I've read the article carefully, where is the actual quote from Bashir that he supports India over Pakistan when the two teams play each other? Sounds like bakwaas sensationalised news to me.

I've heard him say it on tv last year i think. With my own ears. He gave a reason that Pakistan keep losing thats why he supports India. I'm not sure but i think some women in his family are Indian.

My ancestors came from Pakistan. I am a Hindu living in India. My father always supported Pakistan, always respected their wins at a time when India was Pakistans bunny. That did not make my father anti India.
Even if this guy supports India, it doesnt make him anti Pakistan. Its just love.
Cricket matches are not war. Its just a sport, just enjoy it.

Exactly. I know Indians as well who support Pakistan in cricket over their own team for the reasons you said.

I don't think so.

Dhoni is one of my all time favourite Indian players. So calm and a gun of a LO captain. I think Ganguly gave Indian cricket the confidence to believe in themselves. But Dhoni is the one helped Indian mentality in pressure games. His calmness just filters down the rest of the team. Also think his beliefs to having athletic players in the field has played a part in India changing their attitude towards fielding.

Dhoni changed the mentality and perception of a generation of Indian cricketers.

No doubt Dhoni is a compassionate man. India needs humanitarians like him to show them the way. Hate of others is only gonna burn India no one else.
