Multan Sultans (174/4) defeat Quetta Gladiators (168) by 6 runs in Match 7 of PSL 7

Sarfaraz is finished. Imran khan is nowhere close to a T20 bowler.

Rizwan is not captain material. My two cents.

Right in the slot hole from Dahani. This is really poor bowling from Multan.

Dahani celebrating run out like he bowled the batsman!

Tanvir likes to hit it leg side - so what does Dahani do, he goes around the wicket and angles the ball into him and in the slot.

Terrible tactics and bowling.

Brainless bowling

What was Rizwan doing?

Best game of the PSL so far. I am a big fan of Rizwan's calm, collected and respectful captaincy in pressure moments. Sarfaraz watch and learn.

I'm sure Tanvir is someone who is full of sh!t. Wouldn't be surprised if he got paid for that.

He had no urgency to get back on strike when Naseem was facing the first ball of the over against Willy

Brilliant game , credit to shan massod great knock to set the game up and rizzy first captain to win batting 2nd this season ,another feather in his cap regardless of what some will tell you

Looking at how Sarfu is behaving right now will bring the morale down for the whole team. He needs to man up and act like a captain

IU management makes a dumb decision every year. Trading Azam for Ifti was a massive blunder.

I also thought so too, but there was no other option. Shadab would never had been given and faheem ashraf has done well as a bowler.

I think the return they got for ifti was terrible. Should had went for some other player

There was no reason for the trade. Ifti could have played instead of Azam. The former is a better batsman, bowler and fielder. Utterly brainless.

Sohail Tanvir’s selfishness and general fitness lost them the game there. He has No urgency whatsoever when running between the wickets

Credit to Rizwan.. Brilliant captaincy.. Pakistan handover International cricket team to this man..All class

Is Rauman Raees available for Multan Sultans?

He should really play ahead of Imran Khan now. Is a better T20 bowler.

There is a reason why he (along with few others) play so many leagues around the world. He is prolly one of the most sought out player by the ...

No, the issue was the categories. Islamabad couldnt retain that many players in the category held by shadab, hasan, faheem, asif and iftikhar.

Thus to make adjustments, they had give shadab some mentor role that allowed them to keep him.

The choice of retaining rest of the spots were between iftikhar, faheem and Asif ali. All three are great in psl and was a touch decision to make. You could argue faheem should had been let go but his psl bowling is quite a success

The trade had to happen, but it was better if iftikhar was traded for a valuable return instead of getting azam khan. Azam khan would had been bought in the draft aswell as he was not someone teams were after

It was Sarfaraz batting that put Quetta in a very bad position, (for the hundredth time).

Thanks for the clarification. Releasing Asif would have been a better choice. He's served Islu well but Ifti is a better and more consistent all-around package.

T20 cricket is such an incredible format of the game. Multan were cruising along to a victory when I went away to the other room for the evening prayer, only to find out on my return that Iftikhar Ahmad had turned the game on its head by smoking 24 off the 17th over. However, then came David Willey`s over, then came Tanvir`s little cameo, and then again Willey`s over, him being the man of the moment for Multan. Also, I've now seen such catches being taken regularly in international and even in league cricket, such as the one taken by Tim David, but I don't really remember many which actually ended up being the difference between winning and losing. I mean, that match was tied on that ball had it gone for a six. A seriously good catch, although in such a situation, I, as a fielder, might've given preference to saving the six instead of going for the catch itself. So, kudos to him! Well done! A scare avoided successfully by Multan, in the end.

A solid half-century from Shan Masood and David Willey’s sensational spell at death set Multan Sultans’ thrilling last over win over Quetta Gladiators. Multan have now won three straight matches and sit at the top of the points table. Quetta are placed third with one win and two defeats in three matches.

Shan scored his second consecutive half-century, scoring 88 off 58. The left-hander smashed six fours and four sixes.

With Quetta needing 26 off the last three overs, Willey dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed, who had thrashed Imran Khan Snr for 24 in the 17th over, and allowed a single and a double in the 18th before he removed Quetta’s last two batters in the final over to defend eight off the last six balls. The left-armer finished with three for 22.

Other performers:

Multan dominated Quetta’s run chase from the beginning with Khushdil Shah removing Quetta’s both openers and reducing them to 29 for two. Khushdil then accounted for Sarfaraz Ahmed to finish with extraordinary figures of three for 16 from four overs.

That Quetta came in the touching distance of the win was because of Iftikhar’s onslaught in the 17th over, in which he smashed three sixes and a four off Imran. Iftikhar plundered 30 off 13 before he was removed in the 18th over.

Quotes:

David Willey – The game was getting close, but it was important to assess the situation. We spoke about that before the game, assessed the pitch and deception seemed to be working for me in the latter stages. So, I bowled slower balls with my field set and you know, with the tail-enders, I did them in the air rather than off the pitch.

It is just keeping a cool head, trusting my plan and luckily tonight it came off and we got across the line.

Scores in brief:

Multan Sultans 174-4, 20 overs (Shan Masood 88, Tim David 28 not out, Rilee Rossouw 21, Sohaib Maqsood 21; Mohammad Hasnain 2-27)

Quetta Gladiators 168 all out, 19.5 overs (Ben Duckett 47, Iftikhar Ahmed 30, Ahsan Ali 24, Sarfaraz Ahmed 21; Khushdil Shah 3-16, David Willey 3-22, Imran Tahir 3-24)

Mohammad Rizwan: We saw that the ball was gripping and it wasn't easy to bat and it was his (Khushdil) night with the ball tonight. We were targetting 160-170 and we thought if we can do well in all the departments the toss doesn't really matter.

Safaraz Ahmed: When Iftikhar got out that's where we lost the game and that Faulkner run out also proved to be very costly. We wanted to take it to the last over and had we batted a little carefully we would have won the game.

Shan Masood, Player of the Match: What matters is mental space and I am in a very good mental space. If you do the basics right it will help you play freely in all three formats. Today was one day where you wanted Rizwan to play all the way with ball gripping and slower balls working, unfortunately we lost him early and managed to up the momentum in the end. Willey bowled outstandingly well and his spell was what won us the game in the end.

David Willey: I think it was a good catch in the end. Pace off was really important today. Calm head helps and just doing the basics right there in the end. I am trying to change pace and I knew the delivery that was gonna work on this surface. We are the first team to win batting first and close games like these sets you up for the rest of the competition.
