Multan Sultans defeat Islamabad United by 9 wickets in 22nd match of PSL 5

Islamabad is so lucky that one of the matches got rained out. They would have lost that one too

Haider is a prodigy with much higher sealing so there is no doubt about that. I think Zeeshan is a better player than he has shown till now

Agreed. But I have never been impressed by Zeeshan he's got shots but at the age of 28. Don't see much future for him.

Why do these substandard players get selected by franchises? Why? These franchises are ditching the proper player pathways just to get players like Zeeshan into their squads. I’d like to know why?

Zeeshan was exceptional in 2nd xi national T20 cup. What player pathways are you referring to?

Yes, to be honest I was expecting more maturity and better batting from him as at 28 years of age as you have said he needs to do better. Looked decent earlier in the middle order which wasnt his natural position but since opening the batting he has been downhill. Still tournament is on lets see what he can do

Surely there were good options in the first FIRST 11 national t20 cup where competition and quality would’ve been higher. Meanwhile our under 19 captain is warming the benches.

All the top 13 batsmen from first XI national T20 cup are selected. Most of them are getting games but some like Umer Amin and Awais Zia are not. Ali Imran was a youngster who did decently and he missed out on PSL.

Players like Umar Siddiq, Imran Ali and a lot more would have been much better than this joker.

lol the so called invincibles are on the verge of elimination

If LQ wins today or atleast one of next two matches the table is gonna be pretty close. IU’s and QG’s remaining matches can be do or die in that situation

Umar Siddiq averaged 24 at a low SR of 112 in PSL last year. In the National T20 Cup before the draft, he made around 35 runs in 5 innings.

Ali Imran, maybe.

Dude Haider didn't play National T20 cup but he is doing well. Zeeshan Malik, and Abdullah Shqfique deserved a chance

I expected a lot from Zeeshan but he has been a big flop

Agreed with this one the likes for zeeshan Malik and Abdullah Shafique should have been selected.

Shan Masood has surprised me by his Captaincy. I was expecting him to do good but not that he'll lead his team to the top position.

Zeeshan Malik could have been there in LQ squad over Salman Butt while Abdullah Shafique could have been there over Khurram Mansoor in QG but still I am not sure how many games would they have gotten. Saif Badar is also yet to get a game, unless there is some rule for emerging batsmen I dont see them playing many matches even if they are in the squads.

To be frank these names don’t inspire a lot of confidence. Umar Siddiq played PSL last year and failed. Ali Imran strikes me as an a grade hack whenever I see him bat. None of them can be touted as the next big thing. In recent years, only Haider Ali has shown sparks of being international material but he too has a hacky streak in him. Future doesn’t look bright.

I know, was just disagreeing with the Umar Siddiq suggestion. Didn't find him too impressive.

Misbah and his fans deserve this humiliation.

Multan Sultans became the first team to ensure qualification in the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 season as they thumped Islamabad United in a rain reduced nine-over match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as on Sunday.

The nine wicket victory further consolidated Sultans’ stay at the top of the HBL PSL 2020 points table. They now have 11 points after seven games (five wins, one no-result, one loss) and are guaranteed a place in the play-offs which will feature the top-four teams at the end of the group stage.

United who have a mere seven points after nine games, have an uphill task ahead to ensure play-off qualification, they would not only need to win their last match (vs Karachi Kings on 14 March) but might also have to rely on other results for progress to the play-offs’ stage.

On Sunday afternoon, another monumental effort by the ground staff at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium ensured the staging of the game after heavy rain had left the outfield considerably wet before the start of the match. The match eventually started after a more than two-hour delay.

Sultans’ skipper Shan Masood won the toss and opted to bowl first, United were restricted to 91 for seven in their nine overs. Opener Colin Munro top-scored with 25 off 12 balls, all his three sixes were scored of successive balls of a Shahid Afridi over that went for 20 runs. But other than the Afridi over, United struggled to get the Sultans’ bowlers away.

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir took two wickets for 13 runs in two probing overs while left-armer Junaid Khan took two for 13 in his two-over spell.

Besides Munro, Luke Ronchi with 18 and captain Shadab Khan with 14 were the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Man-of-the-match James Vince produced a dazzling display of power-hitting with an unbeaten 61 off 24 balls (11 fours, one six) to ensure a comfortable win for Sultans with 14 balls to spare. Vince added 68 runs for the first wicket with Zeeshan Ashraf (16) and finished the game off in Moeen Ali’s ( 14 not out, five balls, three fours) company after Zeeshan was dismissed by Shadab.

Scores in brief

Islamabad United 91 for 7, 9 overs (Colin Munro 25, Luke Ronchi 18; Imran Tahir 2-13, Junaid Khan 2-17)

Multan Sultans 94 for 1, 6.4 overs (James Vince 61 not out, Zeeshan Ashraf 16; Shadab Khan 1-30)

Result: Multan Sultans win by nine wickets

Misbah fans only know how to blame others rather than Misbah and his buddies (i.e. Asif Ali)
