Sohail Khan speaking after Day 3 of the 2nd Test against WI:

"Alhamdulillah I batted well in England too and I have performed well in domestic cricket too. I am fond of batting. I've been working a lot with Grant on my batting. My aim is to become a proper all-rounder."

"Pink ball is quite different and is affected by dew. The wickets here aren't supporting the bowlers here. Our aim is to get a couple of wickets and leave the rest of the work to the spinners and batsmen (laugh)."

"I went to England for the first time so it takes time to understand Dukes' ball. The ball swings but it isn't easy. You need to hit the seam with the ball. The Grays' ball is very different. Hitting the seam with the Dukes' ball is tough so that needs to be learnt. Once I got the hang of it, I performed well."

"We will hopefully get some spin in the second innings with the 3 spinners."

"I work very hard on everything, batting bowling and fielding, so my team-mates are very happy when I do well."

Sohail's batting is excellent, bowling too.

Has potential to become our allrounder (if Nawaz can't improve). But.... we need his bowling more than batting IMO. Hope he doesn't fade away there.

He's wrong side of 30s now

Don't know whether it's smartest thing to try to reinvent him now

My advice to him would be to concentrate on his bowling, because it's hardly been good enough to stay in the side in the long run.

I like a bowler that can bat and credit to him for trying his best with the bat, but he seriously needs to do more with the ball in his hand than a bat in his hands.

I think he is aiming a bit too high but I love the attitude. Too many of our players focus just on their primary skills. Some developing of their secondary skills can serve their teams very well and increase their worth as players

I think first he should concentrate on becoming a proper test bowler. He starts looking dead tired after bowling a few overs.
He is a good bowler, with good control over line and length. , if only he could have the stamina to bowl test spells without looking like a zombie.

The naked fact of the matter is that he's been the best pace bowler in the side by some distance since coming back. None of the others have looked close to taking a 5fer, let alone two. In 17 Tests, neither Rahat or Wahab have managed more. He needs to work on his fitness, but it is improving we can see that already.

I wish we had a few more tests before ANZ, than these three against West Indies. The prospect of a fast bowling all-rounder for the those tests is too tempting.

His bowling reminds me of Stuart Clark's bowling, he hits the right areas, you would think he is a mazeydaar bowler for the batters but his late movement and line and length allways surprises me.

Stuart Clarke was on a different level to him in all honesty

I doubt he'll become a "proper" all rounder but I think he can become a good tailender. If he can average 15, I'd be very happy with that. For once, Pakistan actually has a good tail!

As for people criticizing his bowling, we're playing in the UAE which doesn't even suit his style of bowling, barring reverse swing. Don't forget what he did in England. His fitness is a bit of a worry but that will get better as he keeps playing.

Nice and old tactic to get selected at any cost. Examples are shoaib malik, m hafeez, afridi etc. But it is too late for him. :moyo

Unfortunately he is another Tanvir Ahmed in the making.

Poor fitness, aged, has some skill with the ball and swagger with the bat.

He can be our number 8 in Australia odis, we should play 4 pacers. Lower order should look like:

7. Imad Wasim/Nawaz
8. Sohail Khan
9. Amir
10. Wahab riaz
11. Rahat Ali

His attitude is good. Reminds me of Tanvir Ahmed , he also was pretty handy with the bat down the order.

LOL. You guys take things way too seriously. Sohail Khan has some style we all know that.

After so many years finally he got a chance. Sadly not at his prime anymore.

I like his swagger and confidence.

Bit too late for that mate.

Seriously think if they are going to play an unfit 34 yeae old right armer why not Asif? He's fitter and still more lethal than Big Pecs Khan.

His batting would have improved leaps and bounds by now if he had genuine ambitions of being an all-rounder in the Freddie Flintoff class. Although many like Imran Khan and Richard Hadlee started as tail enders there batting steadily improved as they climbed the line up. I just don't see that ability in Sohail, at his age now he may be dreaming more then being realistic.

He is approaching 33, has a fitness level of someone around 37, has one 50 in 112 FC innings and after scoring 26 runs on a flat wicket, he just announced his plan to become the next Imran Khan or Kapil Dev :wasim

Much better than that.

Still has a short-term future in ODIs.

Love his attitude.

You forgot the grunt.

I recall during the 2015 wc india game. It was the first time I heard him bowl.

Literally.

Never saw him since SL 2009 tests.

Was getting some snacks for the game from the fridge and I heard a loud "HOOUH" from the stump pic. Thought damn this new guy must be quick.

Came back to check the speed and it was 133 kph :usman

I think he just hit a 140 in a F/C game that is not showing on cricinfo yet. Looks a much more improved player than a few years ago.

Bound to do fabulously now that you've penned his obituary:yk2:shah:yshah1:yk

Well I penned obituaries for Shehzad and Junaid as well, at a time when they were consider future legends on PP.

Nonetheless, I suspect he doesn't have the age or fitness on his side to prove me or others wrong.

Good knock but looked scared of short balls by staying on backfoot expecting short stuff and eventually a soft dismissal.

Sher Khan has won me over. I find him so likeable despite the fact that he ranks 6/10 for me in terms of ability

I think he's already a better ODI batsmen than Azhar Ali... but I guess that not really saying much

He is a good lower order batsman capable of getting runs. Perhaps not an all rounder but at least he scores at a brisk rate unlike Azhar Ali who bores us to tears.

I made fun of him but hes proving me wrong

A younger and/or fitter Sohail would have been exciting, but alas.

He must be in the ODI team, we need this kind of brute force down the order. Not too shabby with the ball either.

Agreed. Our team was settled in UAE without him, but either Imad or Nawaz will have to miss out in his place now.

So what justification can Arthur and Misbah come up with for not playing him in the 1st test? His batting would've won it for us.

Late developer is Sohail Khan. His inclusion has definitely strengthened the tail. I would send him before Amir but still don't regard him as an all rounder.

Probably has the most truth here.

Had Pakistan utilized him in his mid - late twenties, maybe could have been something else.

early on (pre-injury?) he was quick and ripping through everyone in the domestic scene - as per usual, of course, the spasticated selectors picked him only when he came off the boil.

I didn't say it was his fault. Our selectors usually drop the ball.

At this point you can replace Misbah with a bowler and it might actually work . Sohail can bat at 7 and just bowl 2 spells and reduce the workload on the other four bowlers.

Some clean hitting from Sohail against Lyon. Lovely square cut against Starc too.

It really begs the question if players like Sohail Khan that were rotting away in domestics are proven class performers on the international stage, how many more are there currently rotting away and probably would be selected once they're like 35?

Fantastic.

Still think he should only play Tests in a 5-man attack but as mentioned above and as I've maintained for nearly the past couple of years now, he must be in our ODI squad and probably now even ODI XI. Made for ODIs and with his batting could be a real asset for the next 2-4 years.

Wow I have never seen a guy improve this quickly as Sohail. I still remember how his defence wasn't up to the standard in the Eng series. He was always a big hitter but now his defending looks a lot better allowing him to play longer innings.

Another guy who deserves a mention is Mohammad Amir. We knew there was something in him but he was seriously struggling after not having played proper fast bowling for over 6 years. Now he looks solid as well with proper cricketing scoring shots.

To be fair, he didn't look good enough when was picked for the Sri Lankan series in 2009. Maybe he deserved more opportunities besides that.

Reminds me of Tanvir Ahmed in so many ways, big heart, confident, decent amount of skill with bat and ball but not fit enough and doesn't have age on his side.

I think it's time he is given a decent run in ODIs. Picking the washed up Gul over him in England was a terrible decision, especially given his performance in the Test series.

For the time being, he can fit in nicely in the ODI squad as an alternative (or upgrade) on Hasan.

Needs to be milked till he is completely dry. Ticks a lot of boxes at the moment.

Needs to be in the ODI team asap if we want to rise up the rankings. Our best pacer and a decent bat as well.

Another all rounder like Tanvir Ahmed which Pakistan pick up too late
