ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has approved repatriation of Hasan, Hussain Nawaz through Interpol, the bureau’s chairman confirmed on Thursday.

NAB chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal told media the accountability body has accorded approval to bring Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, the sons of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, back to Pakistan with the Interpol’s assistance.

Dismissing speculation, Iqbal said the bureau does not have any political motives and is not out to target any political party.

“[Politicians] can run election campaign but when summoned before NAB, they should appear before the bureau,” he added.

On Wednesday, NAB sources also said the anti-graft body would be initiating proceedings to bring former finance minister Ishaq Dar and Ali Imran, son-in-law of PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, back to the country.

The anti-corruption watchdog has also recommended placement of names of Punjab government secretaries, Ali Jan and Najam Shah, on the Exit Control List, the sources said.

Caretaker interior minister Azam Khan has previously said the authority to bring anyone back through the Interpol rests with the Ministry of Interior.

Permanent arrest warrants for Hassan, Hussain Nawaz sent to Interpol: sources

Sources said the request notes that the Pakistani court has issued permanent arrest warrants for both Hassan and Hussain Nawaz.

Earlier, an accountability court had issued the warrants in the Avenfield Reference case and issued orders to immediately present before the court the two Sharif sons.

The two, who have been absconding in the case, were declared "proclaimed offenders", with the court ordering non-bailable perpetual arrest warrants against them.

An accountability court has already declared Hasan and Hussain Nawaz proclaimed offenders (POs) in corruption references against them.
According to sources, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has submitted an application to the Interpol headquarters in France with the request to issue red warrant of Hasan and Hussain Nawaz.

The application submitted through the FIA headquarters states that Hasan and Hussain are wanted in Pakistan in corruption references and court has already issued permanent arrest warrants against them.

Previously, the court had issued directions for separate trials of Hasan and Hussain after they failed to appear before the court despite repeated orders to face the references in line with the Supreme Court’s direction in the Panama Papers case.

Earlier, while separating the trial of Hasan and Hussain from others and declaring them as absconders, the court had ordered to initiate proceedings against them under Section 87 (proclamation for person absconding) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
