There are numerous number of incidents when the brutal thrashing of bowlers by the quality batters ruined the whole legacy of players and traumatized them for a longer span of time. Such notorious events also results in lifetime branding of players by despicable name and become a kind of night mare that they can't get rid of. Below are few such instances.

1.Carlos Brathwaite's final over thrashing of Ben Stokes in T20 WC 2016.
2. Javed Miandad's last ball six to Chetan Sharma in the Sharjah Cup Final 1986.
3. Saeed Ajmal mauling by Michael Hussey in the T20 WC 2010 Semi Final.
4. Shahid Afridi's two unbelievable sixes to Ashwin in the Asia Cup 2014 that resulted in elimination of India.
5.Albie Morkel's whacking to Virat Kohli in an IPL encounter in which Kohli conceded 28 runs in an over and that resulted in an early end to Kohli's bowling career.
6.Virat Kohli's two gigantic sixes to Haris Rauf in T20 WC 2022.
 
One had to be Sehwag demoloshing Saqlain in 2004 when India toured Pakistan
Sehwag scored 309 with a SR of 82
Saqlain ended up with figures of 1/204 and went at an eco of 4.74

That was Saqlain's last ever Test match

Yep Saqlain was a nightmare for many. But may be at that time in his career he had lost the flair and rightfully took retirement.
 
Mick Lewis gave away 113 runs from 10 overs in that legendary game (South Africa chased down 435 against Australia).

I think that was the worst thrashing a bowler has ever received. If I remember correctly, he never played for Australia again.
 
Those Carlos sixes in final over created a bigger impact since it was the World Cup.

yep havent heard of the poor chap since then.
 
Haris Rauf seems to be the only bowler who completely lost it after those 2 sixes by Kohli. Have turned from a formidable white ball player to an absolute joke in the recent ODI WC

Other bowlers had fairly decent record after those incidents. Nobody really remembers Ben Stokes for those 3 6s any more. Ashwin is nearing 500 test wickets. Even Ajmal continued winning matches for Pakistan before he got banned
 
Not loving the poll options because to me at least nobody had their careers ruined, but this is a fun thing to think about.

Ben Stokes has been amazing for England with world cup wins and a solid test captaincy stint

Wasn't around to see Chetan Sharma so not too sure, but just judging by his stats he seemed to have a fine time for India after that

Ravi Ashwin is one of the most prolific spinners of all time so I think he's done alright

Ajmal had a solid career for a few years after that Hussey thrashing

Virat Kohli definitely had his career ruined getting hit for one over as a part timer :p

Haris Rauf didn't have his career ruined but he doesn't have much a career at this point

Yep but Virat Kohli the bowler certainly ended that night as we have just seen him bowling once in a blue moon. RIP Virat the bowler (2008-2012).
 
Sehwag literally ended Saqlain. Yeah he was on his last legs but that was the final nail in the coffin.

From all the other examples this is the one that stands out. The rest every one recovered and had long careers.

It's too early to say but I think its almost certain that Bazball ended Mohammed Ali and Zahid Mahmoods test career before they got going.
 
Debasis Mohanty.

Ijaz Ahmed just murdered him that day in 3 overs. Mohanty's career is only remembered because of the phainty by the axeman Ijaz.

Saqlain was absolutely done by that time. He couldn't keep himself fit. The writing on the wall was in the Morocco tri-series in 2002 where he conceded 80 runs against SA which is close to about conceding 110 these days.

I completely forgot about that series.

I do remember at the time that despite us knowing it was all over for him there was still some slight cautious optimism.

Ultimately yes Saqlain was probably done before that test image, but I think most Pakistanis collectively misremember and put it down to that match.

Saqlain's last hoorah in international cricket was the 2001 Tri Series in England between Pak, Aus and Eng. After that he just couldn't keep himself fit. Still a legend though despite his underwhelming exit.

Not really! Ashwin played several ODIs after that, as late as this last WC. His end or lack of opportunities of late is more because of his batting skills or lack thereof suitable for ODIs and his fielding (not agile).

He played fair bit of ODI cricket as a premier spinner after that. It was Fakhar Zaman who nailed him in CT final and India were forced to turn towards wrist spin in Chahal Kuldeep after that.
 
Afridi ended Ashwins career. He could not recover or be a regular after he got smacked for those two sixes and Pakistan won by a single wicket.
 
After 2014 ashwin played 2 odi World Cup ,2 WT20 , champion trophy but yea Afridi ended Ashwin career .lol :D

Agreed bro. Those were superhuman hits that didn’t deserve to travel for six but were needed to go for six in the prestigious Cup of Asia. Glad that you have seen the light finally
 
Haris Rauf absolutely has to end Kohli’s run a as a t20 batsman in this upcoming World Cup. Otherwise he will never be the same again.

I remember how they cried about being mishits and ground being small, when infact they also batted on the same ground getting a few mishits as boundaries.

Never liked Afridi, but loved the way he owned the Indian team.

Iftikhar did end axar patel temporarily with his 3 sixes in Australia
 
For me it has to be Manoj Prabhakar whose career was ended by Jayasuriya & Kaluwitharana in 1996 WC. At that time Prabhakar was one of the very few players who used to open the batting and bowl first over. That was his 130th ODI and in that match he was thrashed badly with 47 runs in only 4 overs. He never recovered after that mauling and didn't got any chance after that

Stokes, Ashwin,maybe even Ajmal had their best years after those matches. So career ending word doesn't apply to them.
 
None of those innings did anything to those players careers apart from what lose a game and make those bowlers sad for a little while.
 
Allen vs Shaheen could be one such incident! :D
 
Brian Lara thrashing of Danish Kaneria on the instigation of Kaneria is another such incident and after that Kaneria looked too odd and soon lost his spot in Pak side.

Shaheen is just 23. His best days are yet to come, every bowler has bad days especially in modern white ball cricket which is loaded against bowlers.
 
Vinay Kumar against Australia in 2014 home series.

The man who led Karnataka to unprecedented heights had a disastrous end to his international career for India. Kumar conceded 102 runs in 9 overs in the 7th and final ODI against Australia in Bangalore and that remains his last match in Indian colours.
 
Shaheen Afridi before Asia cup group game against india was looking in great form but after that phainti he and whole Pakistan team are not recovered well .
Lost Asia cup , very Poor world cup than a whitewash in Australia .now started NZ tour with a thrashing. :genius

Yea Maxwell, Watson and Faulkner were destroyed him . I watched the live game if he was bowled another over than he would have become most runs conceded by a bowler in ODIs cricket .
 
Sarfraz vs Malinga 2017

Malinga had the chance yet again to take his team into the finals of an ICC tournament. He was bowling at his best that day and only needed to get 3 more wickets to seal Sri Lanka into the semi finals

Most batsmen would have crumbled under such pressure vs the goat Yorker bowler however Sarfraz absorbed all that pressure and released it on Malinga by hitting four after four. After that game Malinga’s career began to decline until he called quits
 
I seem to recall Sehwag taking Umar Gul to the cleaners in the 2011 SF at Mohali..

It is not mentioned as much because Wahab got Sehwag out shortly afterwards.

However, Umar Gul visibly declined after that. Yes Kohli smacked him around in the 2012 Asia Cup as well but that game was the beginning of the end for him. He hung around for a few more years but never played for Pakistan again after 2014.
 
Most in this over-exaggerated. Their career didn't end . Three i can think of are.

1) Prabakar vs Jayasuriya
2) Sehwag vs Saqlain
3) Kohli vs Albie

Nobody has punished more than what Yuvraj did to Broad. He had a fabulous career in the end.
 
How can I forget Azam Khan and his thrashing of Shahid Afridi in PSL. Took him to the cleaners. Absolutely masterful strokeplay that convinced me that he is the future behind the stumps for Pakistan
 
1 good example is Rana Naved. Was Player of Series when Pakistan won ODI series against India in 2005. Was also part of 2005 ICC ODI Team of the Year

But in 2006 series in Pakistan , he got mauled by Dhoni & Yuvraj in the 3rd & 5th ODIs and lost his way after that series

I wish he had smashed sixes against a young, in-form Shahid Afridi instead of a 40+ Shahid Afridi.
 
kuldeep Yadav thrashing by Moeen Ali in IpL is also a case in point. Although that did not ruin his career but kept him out of Indian side for two years. He even want iinto a trance and trauma momentarily.

The Abdul Razak carnage in Abu Dhabi against Langeveldt back in 2010 was just something out of this world.
 
Those 6 sixes from Yuvraj to Stuart Broad was one of the incidents that shortened the career of t20 cricket for Broad as well.
 
I've always thought that Sehwag onslaught against Umar Gul in the 2011 Semi final effectively ruined his career. Gul never really performed as well after that match and lost his confidence.
 
Well the career of Bhuvneshwar Kumar also ended after getting thrashed by Buttler and Hales in T20 WC 2022.
 
I’m going to state one that some people may not like.

I personally think Babar Azam ended or at least made Dale Steyn realise his career was over, when he assaulted him with that barrage of boundaries during the Test series.

Babar may achieve absolutely nothing substantial by the end of his career as a batsman, but he can be proud of this one innings that totally deflated one of the greatest fast bowlers in the history of the game.

This is true. Gul was never the same again.
 
Jadeja vs Waqar in 1996 WC QF at B'luru and SRT vs Shoaib at Centurion 2003. Both Waqar and Shoaib were never the same threats after that atleast against India. Honorable mention to Virat vs Malinga in SCG where we chased down 330+ in under 40 overs.
 
Harbajhan Singh's last ODI appearance was against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium. AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis destroyed the Indian bowling attack in that game. The trio scored a century each and guided the visitors to a massive score of 438/4.

HS waited for six more years to make a comeback but that thrashing was enough to put curtains on his career.
 
That phenta of Carlos Braithwate to stokes in WC is still treat to watch but the only difference is that over made stokes even more solid player after that
 
Well the thrashing of Hasan Ali in the 2018 Asian cup by India destroyed him. He could not recover afterwards.
