New coming through with press conference by PCB legal rep.

Werent they presenting Nasir as some sort of a king pin of betting circles? Now he is charged with failing to co-operate. 😆 what a joke!

More quotes from PCB's legal advisor

PCB have not offered any proof about corruption yet as it may alert him and he will cover his tracks

if he has nothing to hide, then why doesnt he or his rep explain by his passport has been taken away in UK

He and rep are talking about a deformation suit against PCB for false charges but why dont they file one in UK if that is the case

We are not FIA/Police that we arrest someone if they do not appear for questioning

What PCB can do is to refer such a case to the tribunal and remove such a person from cricket

After one year ban he has to go through a rehab process and he may be referred again to tribunal if he does not help at that time

"To comeback after expiry of ban you have to accept guilt, show remorse"

The fixing charges are yet to be finalized and his UK proceedings are also pending

Civil and criminal proceedings can happen side by side so there is no bearing of UK case on PCB's departmental proceedings

Its still being investigated - atm his ban is only for failure to cooperate

What a failure of justice system!!!! Allegedly mastermind of the corruption leader got 1 year ban for not co-operating and victims (Sharjeel and Khalid) got 5 years ban for co-operating. PCB is such a failure of institute.

Brilliant stuff from the PCB. The ball is in Nasir Jamshed's court to prove himself innocent.

All the Sharjeel and Latif supporters moaning on this decision remember that Nasir committed the crime in UK not in PSL nor in Pakistan. His crime is not under PCB jurisdiction. And ICC and ECB are still in the middle of investigating this. Whatever punishment ICC or ECB will put on Nasir PCB will be obliged do the same. Remember Kaneria got a life time ban by ECB and PCB implemented the same.

Not true ECB has no jurisdiction in this matter. If I take your assumption, what happens if a player commits a crime while in Uganda ? Kaneria was charged because he was playing a county match under ECB.

If there is any evidence UK justice system will charge him, followed by PCB investigating the evidence and charge him. However, nothing has happened as of now, means that prosecution has a weak case and the picture is not as rosy as Najam Sethi and Co painted.

Few points here, if ECB or ICC didn’t inform the British police to arrest him then who did? If the case against him is weak why he was arrested and still facing the charges? Does British police arrest people on weak evidences? Do they listen to PCB? What PCB has to do with British police directly?

Either ICC is behind it or either ECB. British police will never arrest someone on PCB discretion!!

If an accussed man wants to prove his innocence, he will go on all forums to prove it and not hide behind excuses. Nasir Jamshed has clearly behaved throughout the whole saga as someone who is hiding behind loopholes and has things to hide. He has a shady past and there is no smoke without fire. I am pretty sure he is scared of coming forward as plenty of things will come out and might come out against big names which will send the entire cricket world in a frenzy and open a huge pandoras box.

PCB has offered to send its officials to the UK to interview and interrogate Nasir Jamshed. Nasir Jamshed has also been requested to appear in the Pak High Commission in the UK if he cannot travel to Pakistan. If Jamshed was and is truly innocent, he would not run away from these things and hide behind loopholes.

So everyone on this forum including Sharjeel and Latif pointed that Nasir is the master mind. So if Nasir advised them to meet with a bookie why they met? They met with a bookie who offered them the money to play the dot balls, why they didn't report to PCB right away? Even though only 2 hours before they attended the PCB Anti Corruption informational seminar. Then he coincidentally he ended up playing exactly those 2 dot balls they agreed upon? And the huge gap between bat and ball was also a coincidence? The truth is they are all cheaters!!!

Ofcourse which is why the PCB has taken action against every Tom, Dick and Harry involved in this episode i.e. Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohd Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan, Mohammad Nawaz, Nasir Jamshed. But such is the typical nature of Pakistani's, we love to believe in conspiracy theories all the time, that the PCB does not have better things to do and take on virtual nobodies.

Lahore, February 8, 2018: The Pakistan Cricket Board has today issued a Notice of Charge to Cricketer, Nasir Jamshaid, wherein he has been charged with multiple violations of Articles 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4 and 2.4.4 of the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code for Participants (“the Code”). Nasir Jamshaid now has fourteen (14) days to respond to the Notice of Charge.

Nasir Jamshaid is already facing a one (01) year Period of Ineligibility imposed on him vide the PCB Anti-Corruption Tribunal’s Order dated 11thDecember 2017 for breaching Article 2.4.6 of the Code.

PCB remains resilient in its fight against corruption in cricket. Upon action initiated by PCB the Anti-Corruption Tribunal has already banned two Cricketers, namely Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, after they were found guilty on all charges of Corrupt Conduct alleged against them. The convictions of both Cricketers were subsequently upheld on appeal by an Independent Adjudicator.

Thumbs up to PCB for removing corrupts like Sharjeel, Khalid, Shahzaib and now Nasir. Lets get rid of these match fixers.

I must say that it's fairly ironic that the 4 people who got charged with match/spot-fixing are fat hard-hitting openers. If anything they should've all been competing with each other for a place in the team. Instead they decided to work together and get themselves banned.

Media Release Lahore, April 5, 2018:

The Pakistan Cricket Board had issued a Notice of Charge to Cricketer, Nasir Jamshaid, wherein he had been charged with multiple violations of Articles 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4 and 2.4.4 of the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code for Participants (“the Code”). Nasir Jamshaid responded and rejected the charges leveled against him.

Chairman PCB, exercising powers conferred upon him under the PCB Anti-Corruption Code for Participants, has referred the matter for adjudication to an Anti-Corruption Tribunal comprising:

Mr. Justice (Retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan ChairmanMr.
Shahzaib Masood, MemberMr.
Aqib Javed, Former Cricketer Member

PCB remains resilient in its fight against corruption in cricket and shall take all measures necessary to uproot this menace.

It would have been better for Pakistan's spot fixers to not cooperate. Gets you one year + rehab :) Cooperation means 5 years.

Well played Nasir

New coming through with press conference by PCB legal rep.

Sad to see what has become of “Jumbo”. Was a treat to watch during the Aane Do series. I also recall his debut vs Zimbabwe where he scored two back to back 50’s.

Could have been so much more but sadly got involved in this mess :(

Nasir Jamshed summoned by PCB on May 4

The Anti-Corruption Tribunal of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has summoned former opener Nasir Jamshed on May 4 concerning his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal, which rocked the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) second edition.

Jamshed, who resides in England, has been asked to appear in front of the tribunal which comprises of three members — Justice (retd) Fazal, Aaqib Javed and Shahzaib Masood.

The 28-year-old has been accused by the PCB for violating five clauses of the board’s anti-corruption code. However, Jamshed has rejected those allegations.

The Lahore-born left-hander has represented Pakistan in two Tests, 48 ODIs and 18 T20Is, where he has scored 1,832 runs collectively with the help of three centuries and 10 half-centuries.

Jamshed, who made his debut for Pakistan in 2008 in Karachi, hasn’t played in an international match since March 2015.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1406921/nasirs-lawyers-fail-to-produce-power-of-attorney

LAHORE: Though the PCB’s Anti-corruption Unit filed a charge sheet before the three-member PCB Anti-corruption Tribunal here on Thursday against discarded opener Nasir Jamshed for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Nasir’s lawyers failed to produce the power of attorney, raising questions whether he will defend the case or not.

The PCB has constituted a new Anti-corruption Tribu*nal headed by Justice (retd.) Fazal Mian Chohan with ex-pacer Aaqib Javed and advocate Shahzaib Masood as members to hear the case of Nasir who is the last accused among the five cricketers involved in the spot-fixing case. The four others, who have already received varying punishments, include Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan and Muhammad Irfan.

But Nasir’s case is still pending because he could not appear before the tribunal as National Crime Agency in England did not allow him to travel to Pakistan as he was also facing the same charges there.

Nasir’s passport has been confiscated by NCA England and there are reports it is still with the authorities.

PCB’s lawyer Tafazal Rizvi told Dawn that Nasir’s lawyer Hasan Waraich did not appear before the tribunal on Thursday and only two junior lawyers came, claiming they would contest the case.

However, Tafazal said when the objection was rai*sed to show the power of atto*rney of Nasir, they said that had forgotten the same in their offices. At that stage, the tribunal advised the lawyers to bring the power of attorney with them next time.

Tafazal said the PCB had leveled six allegations on Nasir in its charge sheet containing 425 pages and the tribunal had asked Nasir to submit the reply till May 18.

However, Tafazal was not sure whether Nasir would visit Pakistan to fight the case or would send his lawyers for the same. But he said in case of no reply from Nasir, the tribunal had the authority to announce its verdict in the case in 40 days.

Though Nasir was not the part of the PSL, he is facing allegations that he persuaded four cricketers through an agent, M Yousuf, to be part of the spot-fixing scandal, while sitting in England.

Besides, Nasir is also facing the charges of not cooperating with the tribunal in probing the case and not informing the concerned authorities about the move of the bookies.

KARACHI: Pakistan's discarded Test opener Nasir Jamshed faces the prospect of ban in absentia for his alleged role in the Pakistan Super League spot-fixing scandal if he doesn't respond to the charge sheet filed against him by the PCB on May 18.

The PCB filed a chargesheet against Nasir, 28, last week with the anti-corruption tribunal containing six allegations against the opener who resides in the United Kingdom now.

"Nasir has until May 18 to file a reply. If there is no reply from him, the tribunal has the authority to announce its verdict in the case in 40 days," PCB lawyer, Tafazzul Rizvi told this correspondent.

The newly constituted tribunal headed by Justice (retd) Fazal Mian Chohan held a hearing last week in which the PCB filed its charge sheet against Nasir.

But instead of his senior lawyer, two junior lawyers turned up to represent Nasir but were not allowed to proceed by the judge after they failed to produce the power of attorney.

Former Test pacer Aaqib Javed and advocate Shahzaib Masood are the other members of the tribunal.

"I don't know if Nasir will come down to Lahore to attend the hearing or his lawyers will represent him. But if he fails to send in his reply the tribunal can reach a verdict in absentia in 40 days," Rizvi said.

The PCB in its chargesheet has alleged that Nasir persuaded four cricketers through an agent, Mohammad Yousuf to become part of a spot-fixing scandal in the second PSL in February, 2017.

He is also charged with obstructing and not cooperating with the tribunal inquiry and also failing to inform the authorities about being approached by bookmakers to fix matches.

Jamshed who once scored three back-to-back ODI hundreds against India in 2012/13 has denied his involvement in the PSL spot-fixing scandal which has already led to bans ranging from five years to six months on Pakistani players, Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan and Muhammad Irfan.

Jamshed has termed the charges against him as flimsy and ridiculous but he is also under investigation by the UK's National Crime Agency after the PSL and the agency has withheld his passport till the investigation continues.

Nasir last played for Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup with his selection causing a lot of controversy while his last appearance in domestic match in Pakistan was in December, 2016.

Four other accused of the case namely Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan and Mohammad Irfan have faced different punishments and only Nasir’s case is pending before the tribunal.

PCB to produce witnesses against Nasir

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will produce its witnesses before its Anti-corruption Tribunal on May 25 in a spot-fixing case against cricketer Nasir Jamshed reported on the first day of the second edition of the Pakistan Super League in the United Arab Emirates.

On Tuesday, PCB lawyer Tafazzul Rizvi submitted its reply to the tribunal in response to Nasir’s reply against the allegations levelled against his client by the PCB.

On May 25, after the arguments from both the parties it would be decided by the tribunal whether to continue the case or not.

Though Nasir was not part of the PSL, he is facing allegations that he persuaded four cricketers of the league namely Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Muhammad Irfan and Shahzaib Hasan to be part of the spot-fixing and in this regard he had the services of Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of UK.

Nasir is unable to appear before the tribunal because his passport is seized with the UK authorities, so, his lawyer is defending him in the case.

Find it interesting that he got banned for one year whereas Sharjeel got a far longer ban.

PCB produces second witness against Nasir

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) produced its second witness against opener Nasir Jamshed in the spot-fixing case here on Wednesday before the Anti-corruption Tribunal.

The second witness was retired Col Azam, head of the PCB’s anti-corruption department. Before Azam’s cross examination the counsel for PCB Taffazul Rizvi played the audio and video interviews of two other tainted cricketers -- Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan. He also played Nasir’s voice on WhatsApp.

Both Khalid and Sharjeel have already been penalised in the same case.

Thereafter Col Azam faced detailed cross examination by Nasir’s counsel Hasan Warraich whose emphasised that the PCB has not presented any direct evidence against bookie named Yousuf and neither the PCB advised the cricketers to keep away from the same bookie before the incident took place on the first day of the 2017 Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Dubai.

While clarifying that the PCB is only concerned with cricketers, Col Azam said it was Nasir who asked Khalid and Sharjeel to meet Yousuf where he made fixing offers to both, and as a result spot-fixing was committed at the 2017 PSL.

Hence in the earlier proceedings both Khalid and Sharjeel were found involved in spot-fixing and were subsequently banned. Proceedings were adjourned till Monday when the PCB will present its next witness.

Muhammad Nawaz appears before tribunal

LAHORE: Pakistan all-rounder Muhammad Nawaz appeared before the anti-corruption tribunal of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a witness for the body in the spot-fixing case against batsman Nasir Jamshed here on Tuesday.

Nawaz is the third witness of the PCB against Nasir, who has reportedly said that the left-hander had made a contact with him before the start of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) 2017 season and during the Pakistan’s tour of Australiaoffered him spot-fixing deals.

Nawaz repeated the same statement before the tribunal. PCB has already produced two witnesses against Nasir, including its director security and anti-corruption department retired Col Azam Khan and GM Legal affairs Salman Naseer.

In contrary, Nasir has no witness in this case and he could also not appear before the tribunal in person because his passport is seized by England’s National Crime Agency.

Quotes from PCB presser

"Today the decision for the final case of the PSL-2 spot fixing saga has been announced"

"There are cases where even after winning, you feel a sense of loss; the sadness here is that another player has sacrificed his career for spot-fixing"

"The PCB Anti-Corruption Tribunal has come to the conclusion that the charges against Nasir Jamshed have been proven to be correct"

"Nasir Jamshed has (consequently) been banned for 10 years"

"If after 10 years he is back from rehabilitation, he will not be allowed to have any association with cricket or cricket administration"

"His name will be added to list of names of players with whom contact is to be avoided, which are given out in (anti corruption) lectures"

"PCB has been saying from day one that he (Nasir Jamshed) was the lynch-pin (of this whole affair) and the whole (spot-fixing) saga pivoted around him"

"That was proven today and as we said, he was the one who recruited others and spot-fixing happened due to that"

"His first 1 year ban was for failure to cooperate with the PCB"

"It is not the responsibility of the PCB to proof that Yousuf was a bookie"

"PCB has no concern with any bookie, our job is to tell players to not meet such people"

"According to PCB laws, it is a crime to not report (an inappropriate) approach from anyone, including a bookie, friend or even your own brother"

"If such a person makes an inappropriate offer then it is incumbent upon a player to report that; if player doesn't do that, he will be punished"

"In UK, the case against Nasir Jamshed is still pending; The National Crime Agency (NCA) have said that we cannot discuss that in public as criminal proceedings against Nasir Jamshed are still in progress there"

"As per laws of Pakistan, Nasir Jamshed has the right to appeal in any court he likes"

"The use of word bat (by Nasir Jamshed) was a symbol or code for a cricket player"

"In the case proceedings, it was proven that the word bat was used to refer to the 'sale' or 'buying' (for spot-fixing) of a player"

"After his ban, Nasir Jamshed, can still trade in bats but he won't be able to sell or buy players"

"There is a difference in punishments for someone who was approached and did not tell the PCB straightaway, versus someone who was recruiting players and was a key part of this whole affair"

"We can say that as far as cricket is concerned, Nasir Jamshed played a pivotal role in this whole case and this is why he has been given a 10 year ban"

Good on the PCB! If anything, they should have just given him a life ban. In reality 10 years probably is a life ban for Nasir, as he'll be too old to return once it's over.

Once upon a time Nasir Jamshed was seen not just as one of the most promising batsmen in Pakistan, but one of the most promising in the entire world. How things have changed. I'm glad he had no long term career with Pakistan - who knows how many youngsters in our team would have followed his lead and engaged in corruption.

Well done PCB!

life ban for cricket as he wont be allowed to be associated with cricket on his return

I hope they dont ban Sharjeel khan Now that its been establisged that Nasir asked them to meet that guy Yousuf and they werent aware if he was a fixer or not

What is the specific evidence against him?

I get that he used ‘bats’ as a code word for buying and selling players but what is the specific evidence? Text messages? Video?

high hopes people had for him when he arrived

young (despite looking much older)
and then some of the knocks he played

but 2013 tour destroyed him in SA

wouldn't be surprised if he did turn to corruption

Whatsapp messages

Apart from few fluke innings against mediocre bowling he was never an international batsman. He single handedly destroyed the life of Sharjeel, Khalid and Shazaib. He should be put in jail for 5 years as well.

I'd really question the intelligence of anyone who decides to get involved in match fixing in today's time. There's no way anyone can escape from being caught.

Such a fall from grace. How do you go from being called the second-coming of Saeed Anwar and receiving praise from names like Rahul Dravid to doing this sort of schtick?

I'd really question the intelligence of anyone who decides to get involved in match fixing in today's time. There's no way anyone can escape from being caught.

Its the lure of $$$ and untold riches.

Syed1, like I said on Sharjeel, there's evidence PCB hasn't released yet. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get an extended ban soon too.

What is the specific evidence against him?

When there is no defense and you have three witnesses against a person, do you need email, video or text message?

life ban for cricket as he wont be allowed to be associated with cricket on his return

Soo what exactly is he being banned from from during these 10 years if he cannot return to cricket after that? :13:

Sorry but Sharjeel, Khalid and Shahzaib are responsible for their own demise. They were adults who knew what they were doing and knew the consequences of their actions too.

Was a decent bat the first 2 years of his career, but did not want to change his habits.

Another one bites the dust!

I'd really question the intelligence of anyone who decides to get involved in match fixing in today's time. There's no way anyone can escape from being caught.

The spot fixing we know about is probably the tip of the iceberg and Nasir might feel unlucky to actually be caught.

I think what made it worse for him is that he didn’t cooperate with the PCB. Guilty written all over him. Serves him right!

The end of his career. This is how we should treat all fixers from this point onwards.

Now why wasn't Amir banned for 10 years? It's shows the hypocrisy.

Because that was like 8 years ago. Now they are being very strict so it doesn't happen. Even though the trio was banned for 5 years, it seems it wasn't enough, people still get into this disgusting crap which is why they should show no mercy.

As a batsman he won't be missed. It is unfair how Amir got off so lightly compared to other players.

Nasir Jamshed's 10 year ban upheld by independent adjudicator

Lahore October 22:

Justice (R) Mian Hamid Farooq, the independent adjudicator hearing the appeal filed by Nasir Jamshed against the decision of the Anti-Corruption Tribunal has today announced the order.

The 10 year ban imposed on Nasir Jamshed has been found to be 'perfectly justified' and shall continue to remain in force.

The two additional sanctions imposed by the Anti-Corruption Tribunal regarding,

A: Inclusion of Nasir in the list of players to be avoided by cricketers and all stakeholders:

B: Not to be given an important role in the management or administration of cricket
have been set aside as they fall outside the confines provided under Article 6.2 of the PCB's Anti-Corruption Code.

Meanwhile, PCB's fight against corruption in the game continues, the Board will take all necessary steps in order to root out corruption at all levels.

Jamshed clearly behaved like someone with something to hide. It's like he has given up on playing Cricket ever again

Some poor comments deleted about Nasir Jamshed and his family etc - this will not be tolerated on PP.

another one bites the dust... looking back at those tons in India & the comparisons to Inzi 🤦🏽*♂️ just like scores of other players if only he decided to be an honest & hardworking player...he had the world at his feet .. good riddance & a big facpalm for ppl who compare him to Aamir 🤷🏽*♂️

Nasir Jamshed charged in spot-fixing scandal

LONDON: Pakistani cricketer Nasir Jamshed has been charged for his alleged involvement in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing scandal by the British National Crime Agency (NCA).

Jamshed, along with two other men, was charged with bribery offences for their role in spot-fixing during tournaments organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Two other accused are British nationals Yousaf Anwar and Muhammad Ijaz who were arrested in February last year, along with Jamshed.

The NCA coordinated with the PCB and the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti-corruption units as part of their efforts to curb corruption.

The 29-year-old cricketer was suspended from all kind of cricket by the cricket governing body in February 2017 for violation of its anti-corruption regulations and handed over a one-year ban in December that year.

In August 2018, he was banned by the PCB for a period of 10 years under its anti-corruption code of conduct.

Looks like Jamshed has no interest in Cricket or trying to even remotely salvage his career and has accepted a purposeless existence in London

herd he is driving uber in UK

What an idiot has the world at his feet in 2012 and gave it all away to match fix.

Shame about his career but fully deserved for getting involved in fixing. He had no education at all which is always part of the problem.

Despite some good innings against India the most memorable thing about Nasir was his arrest for cheating on metric (I think grade 10?) exams at the age of 19 or sth.

Nasir Jamshed indicted in UK over bribery offences

Disgraced cricketer Nasir Jamshed was on Thursday indicted by a British law enforcement agency for his alleged part in the infamous spot-fixing scandal for which he was earlier banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The National Crime Agency (NCA) reported today that Jamshed, along with two Bangladeshi cricketers, has been indicted for bribery.

"Three men have been charged with bribery offences as part of a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into cricket match spot-fixing in tournaments organised by national cricket boards from Pakistan and Bangladesh," the British agency said.

According to the agency, British nationals Yousaf Anwar, 35, and Mohammed Ijaz, 33, had been arrested in February 2017, along with Nasir Jamshaid, 32, from Pakistan.

Jamshed and company's first appearance at Manchester Magistrates Court will be on Jan 15, 2019 — the NCA added.

The NCA worked closely with the PCB and International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption units as part of the investigation in connection with the case.

On Aug 17, Jamshed was banned for 10 years for violating the PCB's anti-corruption code. “The tribunal has reached the verdict that the PCB’s multiple charges against Nasir Jamshed have been proved and he was banned for 10 years,” PCB lawyer Tafazzul Rizvi had told reporters.

Jamshed was banned in the spot-fixing scandal that erupted during the 2017 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Former Pakistan cricketer and two other men in court charged with bribery offences

A former Pakistan cricketer has appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court with two other men charged with offering bribes.

Nasir Jamshed, 32, of High Street, Walsall, was an opening batsman who played in 48 one-day internationals and two test matches for his country.

He appeared in Manchester on Tuesday alongside Yousef Anwar, 35, of Littlebrook Avenue, Slough, and Mohammed Ijaz, 33, of Chippinghouse Road, Sheffield, charged with offering bribes.

Mr Jamshed's single charge relates to allegations in the Pakistan Premier League, while the other two defendants face two charges each, relating to both the Pakistan and Bangladesh Premier Leagues.

The alleged offences took place between November 2016 and February 2017.

The charges, read out by the court clerk, stated: “They conspired together to offer financial advantages to professional cricket players with the intention of inducing those players to perform their professional duties improperly by failing to play competitive cricket matches in good faith.”

The trio, who did not enter pleas to the charges they face, have been sent to Manchester Crown Court where a pre-trial hearing will take place on February 12.

They have been granted unconditional bail.
