SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) fast bowler T Natarajan on Wednesday tested positive for Covid-19 in a scheduled RT-PCR test, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement. The board further said that Natarajan has isolated himself from the rest of the squad and is currently asymptomatic.

The news comes just hours before SRH were set to resume their 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign against Delhi Capitals. As reported by Sports Today earlier, the fate of the match depended upon the results of the rest of the players. The BCCI said in its statement that the match will go ahead as scheduled at the Dubai International Stadium as the other players have returned negative tests.

"The rest of the contingent including the close contacts underwent RT-PCR tests at 5AM local time this morning and the test reports are negative. As a result, tonight's game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will go ahead at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai," said the board in its statement.

All-rounder Vijay Shankar is among six close contacts that the medical team has identified and placed in isolation. Apart from Shankar, the other individuals are team manager Vijay Kumar, physiotherapist Shyam Sundar J, Dr. Anjana Vannan, logistics manager Tushar Khedkar and net bowler Periyasamy Ganesan.

The development comes as a shocker after strict measures were taken by the organizers to prevent any COVID-19 cases. The cricketers were in a bio-bubble, while the hosts decided to allow some crowds.

Earlier in May, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had suspended IPL 2021 due to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases inside IPL's bio-bubble. After a lot of discussions, the board decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE due to the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in India.

Wasn’t it stated in the 5th test that players can turn positive in couple of days so there is risk involved? “close contact” is a term which is applied as per the judgement because there is no way to be sure that this is a close contact and this is not.

Yes but, they had reserve players with the squad as well as other players on the bench. Could have done the same they did in Srl and used the reserves.

If anyone who is not a close contact is selected and comes positive during the match then nothing India could have done and things would have been handled based upon protocols there.

Secondly, if someone is feeling feared then they say, "I am scared" and they say it to the team management, administrator or the boards. They don't need to say anything to me for that.

But if he is not feeling scared, then he doesn't have to say anything and continue the game.

Do you even know physio found Positive Means lot's of players who have niggles and injury had closed contact with them thereafter they can't take risk to play a 5 day game( T20 is 4 hour game so that doesn't effect much ) instantly rather than wait for 2 day to assess player's condition .

We should never feel forced to support something that we clearly feel as wrong. But accepting a situation like priority of IPL over Int cricket and then doing nothing is also not a solution. If even fans won’t put pressure on their boards to do the right thing then who would?

Covid spreads like fire once it breaks into a group. But BCCI has so much money at stake they will take risk despite what we know should be done. They are going to hide any further cases and control damage. It's laughable that Natrajan cricketer who is affected with covid was only contact with one cricketer.

Yes they did play and there is no denying that. However, what exactly is the threshold? As its pretty subjective that yeah when covid has only impacted 3 staff members we will play but, leave when a 4th one gets a positive result (Physio is no excuse as they could have easily gotten one on request).

If (God forbid) cases in IPL go upto 3-4, will this threshold again come into play and you will say that its time to wrap up the tournament?
