National netball champion Shaumalya Javed given triple talaq

Javed was harassed by in-laws for dowry

Divorced after she gave birth to a girl child

AMROHA: A national level netball player was divorced for giving birth to a girl child, in Uttar Pradesh.

Shumayala Javed, a national level champion for seven times, hails from Amroha district of UP. She was married to Azam Abbasi, a resident of Lucknow's Gosaiganj area in 2014.

"On February 9, 2014, I got married to Azam Abbasi. From the starting, my in-laws used to torture me for dowry. They used to exploit me. Every now and then, they used to ask for dowry from my father," Shumayala told ANI as her daughter kept crying waiting for her mother to take her into her arms.
Narrating her ordeal, she shares how her in-laws used to harass her post marriage.

"In June 2014, my father gave them Rs. 2 lakh. For some time, they treated me well. My husband's sister even tried to put me on fire. In September, my father again deposited Rs. 1 lakh in their account," she said.

What has India come to.. I'm sure there's such things happening in Pakistan too but not at such a wide scale.

Women and poor have always been surprised in India it's not like it's something new.. Just that with social media and 24/7 news channels and online media outlets their plight comes to light..

Indeed. Hopefully the situation gets better.

News like this BOILS my blood.

Bloody frigging HELL.

This is just so so so so sad.

This female should go to the police and file dowry harassment cases, attempted murder first.

I can't wait for the Triple Talaq to be abolished and if anyone has a problem with that, let them keep crying.

It's time our nation goes real secular and moves away from this "let's adjust for all" secular. Every rule is a product of its time. Can't keep sticking on to something just cos it used to work in the past.

Things have gotten polluted today. Every party, every group has its own agenda. Every community feels like they are the victims. Its about time we really bring uniform civil code and forge a proper national identity.

But hard to do so with a hypocrite govt at the centre which is only going to mess things up.

Also without strong implementation, laws are useless.

Yeah easy to say when minorities bring the religion or minority card into play every time someone looks to reform this nation. The mandal politics, & reservations, being a prime example. When the UP CM said something along the lines of abolishing quotas, every tom/dick/harry with an opinion was up in arms about it. The AIMPLB loves to bring Shariya & the constitutionally guaranteed right, freedom of religion, when talking about triple talaq in the Supreme Court.

When vested interests, like politicians or religious fanatics, actively sabotage the greater good of people you'll never see much needed reforms in the country. Why don't the Salman, SRK, Aamir, Saif of this nation demand such reforms, are they against it, don't care, afraid of Maulvi's or what? Ram Mohan Roy, Vivekanada, Dayananda Saraswati did what was needed for Hindus, pre independence, but I don't see any socio political Muslim reformers either side of the fence post 1947, why is that?

Govt at the centre (or to be precise, its engine RSS) wants Hindu Rashtra eventually.

Not saying it will happen but its what they want. When the main power is biased, they cannot exert any moral authority to bring about any major change. This is not to say that if a main power is unbiased, there won't be problems. There still would be but they could exert moral authority which could help a lot.

Perception is everything and it eventually shapes public opinion.

We can't have a beef ban and aim to be truly secular. It won't work. People will protest cos it is biased. We may change one or two laws but a complete change is hard to attain with the way things are in India.

India has more than 70,000 newspapers and more than 400 news channels but still many incidents happening in different states are not covered by national channels/newspapers.
