The National T20 Cup this year was supposed to be produced by a local company called ChannelTek. Unfortunately, they pulled out at the last moment and once again, it's being produced by PTV Sports. Don't think much elaboration on that is needed to know that the quality is bad... same old 80s camera, poor graphics (when they are working), abysmal slow-mos...

Another thing that is gaining a lot of attention on social media is the commentary... Poor Azhar Khan is barely able to speak and alongside Tariq Rahim, forms the dullest duo for the commentary. Almost all of the commentary is pretty bland.

There is some interest in the tournament, T20s are always going to be the form of domestic cricket that get the most attention but with such pathetic production, you're not exactly inviting a lot of viewership.

It's really unfortunate for Pakistan that the only sports channels we have locally are the likes of PTV Sports and Geo Super. We can do much better.

It's mainly Azhar Khan and the guy with the fake british accent. The Urdu commentators are fine. The guys trying to force themselves to speak English are embarrassing themselves. What's wrong in speaking in Urdu in a Pakistani tournament.

This azhar khan and the English commentary is as awful as it gets. Don't even know what they are saying half of the time.

Why don't Bazid Khan, Ramiz also help out? Surely a few sessions here and there can help lift quality and possibly raise the bar for others to follow?

Why don't PTV sports hire them? If they can't afford to, then why should they help out?

Improvement of sorts - Waqar, Rashid Latif on comms

Ptv always tries its best to make good cricket unwatchable, whether its lack of camera angles, lack of hd cameras, or 'impeccable' commentary:ssmith

Awful, awful broadcasting and overall marketing of the tournament. Pakistan cricket may be a sporting organization, but the outdated nature of everything - from broadcasting to personnel to sporting standards - makes it seem more like a retirement home.

The commentary is some of the worst I've listened to. Azhar Khan, at some points, sounded like he was a very old man gasping for breath ON THE MICROPHONE. Then they had Shoaib Akhtar on comms today, and he talked about everything from Faf du Plessis to the upcoming Australia tour to throwing random names on both domestic teams up for selection. The man can't focus on one thing for more than five seconds and his articulation is beyond poor.

On top of that, the PCB website experience is downright pathetic. There is no banner on the home page advertising the T20 tournament, no easy way to get to scorecards when the game is over and just zero promotion of the players or the teams besides a press release.

Pakistan is such a wasted market for cricket. Literally there are millions of sport-starved fans desperate for action, and the PCB can't get its freaking act together to give them what they want and consequently make tons of money.

I honestly do feel like as if PTV sports is footing the bills for a certain person's desires to hangout with ex cricketers from past (Both domestic and Foreign).

So when there is an International series or WC then that person invites those people to come and hang out with him and do some cricket analysis in between, I am sure the $$ those people charge can be better spent on hiring better local commentators for Domestic coverage but these roles/assignments are given to old commentators that used to understand cricket broadcasting in 70's but not any more.

When I heard Shoaib Akhtar commentating, suddenly Azhar Khan didn't seem so bad. :))

Dr nauman slacking for a long time, rights should be sold

Contracted to others and probably money related issue.

The whole package needs an overhaul.

I mean compare this with what the likes of Sky Sports in the UK are doing.

It's amateur, it's bland, it's awkward and it's off-putting.

Is it necessary for a commentator to have played international cricket?

I am sure Pakistani universities are capable of turning out sports journalists and international level broad casters

If you are even a chapraasi employed by PCB, you need to have played at least one Test match. :yk

But no doubt our broadcasting and commentary is still stuck in the 70's

I can be better commentator than Azhar khan anc co.The Tariq saeed guy is good.

Even PCB's own production for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy was of a higher standard. They're better off producing it themselves and screening it on PTV and Youtube.

It seems that knowing player names, reading off the scorecard and knowing fielding positions are considered all that is required to be a commentator!

Azhar Khan doesn't even know his fielding positions though. He keeps calling mid off extra cover.

One thing that we should appreciate is how they want to keep both teams happy by making both winners :D

Man, the broadcast of these matches would put anyone to sleep. So Dull, unclear, unenthusiastic commentary will of course draw away your fans from watching. We are in 2019 and we are still using PTV technology from 1980s. It is not just our Cricket that is played like back in times but our technology as well. Half the time I can't even spot the ball. This needs some serious makeover.

Domestic quality

Was watching a mumbai t20 league game and one from the national t20 tourney the Mumbai league games ground was a treat to watch whereas the national t20 games pitch was a bit too bright is it due to production quality or standard of pitch and ground?

National T20 Cup: Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja to also commentate in Urdu

Former cricketers Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja will be part of the commentary panel of the National T20 Cup tournament, which begins next week.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official confirmed that the duo, along with Bazid Khan, will do commentary in English as well as Urdu throughout the tournament.

The former cricketers, both part of the victorious Pakistan side in the 1992 World Cup, have worked as commentators for broadcast teams in Australia, England and India.

Really good additions. International commentators will make a huge difference to the overall setup.

“Aur Nazareen yeh thi bahut hi umdah shot” , that was one classic line from 80s PTV Urdu commentary

Azhar Ali? Seriously? Need more experienced players involved i.e. Aamir Sohail

Shehzar has the most cringy-est English accent EVER!!!!!!!

Marina Iqbal is a terrible commentator

Havent heard much of Marina but, Ramiz, Basit, Sana Mir, Tariq Saeed, Sawera, Sikandar Bakht, Wasim and Azhar Ali are decent I think.

Is the commentary going to be in Urdu or English? Because if its in English I don't think I can stomach Shehzar's commentary.

Otherwise, pretty good panel. I assume many of these people will be commentating/presenting for Pakistan's home-series too.

Yes agreed they should make it worldwide they have a alot of fans in UK

This is an upgrade over the previous panels. Also, Rambo and Wasim will finally get to know about our domestic players and will probably push/highlight those who impress them.

Hahaha I’m looking forward to seeing Wasim take notes which he will read off from in New Zealand.

:wa “This youngster, Imran Khan Jr, only 16 years of age, very good domestic record. He got 10 wickets at 25.32 average, very promising bowler from the recent National T20 conducted in Pakistan. I have spoken with him in the nets as well, working on reverse swing. I told him to lock his wrists, little bit of work and he can do wonders.”

Rambo will do 7 games & Wasim 6 games, they will need to commentate an entire season at least in order to get some idea about youngsters coming through

Really glad to see no Chisti Mujahid in the commentary panel. That guy was very annoying.

Quality of Broadcast & Production during domestic season 2020/21

Huge upgrade as far as Picture quality is concerned.

Audio was a bit delayed but it's OK now

Graphics are decent, expected better than this. Some details are not visible

Most importantly, I can hardly spot the ball

Hopefully, these issues are fixed but great to see some improvements

This is NOT HD ..i cant see the ball PTV logo is blurred scorecard can not be seen

what improvements? It's still as bad.

Can't spot the ball at all. Couldn't follow how the first wicket went down as camera was panning elsewhere.

Can hear other commentators in the background (perhaps radio commentators)

Scorecard and graphics are horrendous. The team names were displayed so unprofessionally without their full names like Hafeez, Shadab.

too much talk and very little action.

Picture quality has improved but graphics are taking ages to update. Let's see how it goes as tournament progresses.

It's awful.

Camera quality is bad.

Score board not being updated.

Zeeshan is batting but his runs are going to Ali Imran and vice versa

Wahab is bowling but it says Junaid Khan is.

They sold it to us as PSL quality broadcast, FAKE NEWS!

Ramiz on commentary mentioned its a full 14 camera setup, and some of the staff are new, hopefully the locals gain good experience and get through the teething issues early before the coming games.

Is it available on live stream overseas?

Can someone share some screenhots of graphics and picture quality?

Scorecard issues have been diabolical. Rameez on air is giving one score but the on-screen graphic (when it's even visible) is stating totally different.

It has been a disaster so far

Camerawork looks like it is being handled by someone who is using camera for the first time. Waste of money by PCB, should have used PTV production to save cost,

Sorry to say but QEA livestream had better camerawork

Marketing has been really impressive, it’s trending on social media as well like PSL.

No one is expecting sky standards but it should at least use PSL as benchmark. The technology they are using in 2020 is not new and has been around for over a decade. Hopefully things improve as the tourney progresses

I guess it will take time for PTV to upgrade their equipment and stuff. Hopefully, next year it will be better.

The kits have got no names on the players shirts - how are we supposed to know who's who unless they're current or ex players of Pakistan.

Kits do look horrendous though.

Posters complaining too much everything is fine, cannot expect Sky standards yet.

At least follow the ball properly. It cost PCB 36 crores, so this isn't free stuff. Afghanistan has better coverage than this

Watch Shpageeza League 2020 on youtube. Some idiots still here defending this garbage level production

That amount is mainly because of Zimbabwe ODI & T20I series, where they will hire foriegn technicians, drone operators & cameramen. I think right now, it's just local guys handling all the stuff under the banner of Tower Sports.

Still there's no excuse, they have to do much better than this, commentary wasn't audible at time due to that fake crowd noise, camera angles were terrible. Hopefully they will have all this sorted out by the time Pindi leg of the tournament starts.

I didn't notice any improvement what's so ever. I just saw those four which were hit in the covers.

Whenever they hit it towards leg side I never see any ball.

Lol, the way the PCB promoted the broadcasting, you were expecting international IPL level broadcasting, camera work, hawk eye, snickometer, speedguns every delivery.

Broadcasting in Pakistan is in stone ages and it will take a lot of training, experience for our local personnel to catch up with the rest of the world. May not happen in one match or one tournament.

Lol, PCB paid PKR 359 million for this? Someone should be fired or sued because this was not even worth Rs 10 million

The goal is eventually to reach Psl level lmao, people here have way to high expectations. The people who work for international t20 tournaments are very experienced.

For this amount, i was expecting PCB to have hired highly experienced people who would have provided on the job training to the local Pakistani personnel.

I like the coverage so far. Upgrade to previous years. Still a long way to go.
