The VIP treatment that famous prisoners get in Pakistani and Indian prisons makes a mockery of justice.

Would other prisoners in Sharif’s position get the type of medical treatment Sharif will be getting?

These leaders, when in charge, are the very people that made the prison and health services the way they are so if the treatment isn’t good enough for them then they’ve only got themselves to blame.

Everyone should be equal in front of the law which clearly isn’t the case in Asia.

That said, hope the Sher gets well soon.

I agree.

However it is a similar case in the West too when it comes to white collar crime. Wealthy individuals get very accommodating jails while poorer people get less quality jails.

I agree with with both and it is a problem everywhere.

The leaders should have access to the exact same health care or prison services as the average person.

Pakistan is the only country in the world right now where the people fear the opposition more than the sitting govt and where the opposition has a lot more influence than the sitting govt.

Poor by IK, why is this crook treated any differently from all the other crooks.

Agree, he should be made an example of. Corruption does not end well, and health is wealth, not the Billions stashed in foreign accounts. Treat Nawaz as a common man. Show Pakistan what equality really means!

Most of the world works that way . Depends on your level of "RICH and POWER" .

Don't know about his cardiac illness, otherwise platelet count improves dramatically with 2-3 doses of Eltrombopeg.

No one is afraid of opposition.

Nawaz must not be allowed to leave PAK at any cost. If he dies then it has to be in Pak with the people he ruled and failed to provide good health facilities for

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has asked the opposition not to do politics over the health of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, she said some people were exploiting the situation and accusing the government of doing politics over the health of Nawaz Sharif.

“The government has so many achievements to bring forward, we are not dependent on some health issue to do politics, but it is they who are dependent on such petty issues,” Dr Awan said, adding: “I want to tell these spokespersons that if they use harsh language against the country’s leadership they should expect to get a response in the same coin.”

She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had always stood by the supremacy of law for the strengthening of the judiciary and the government would not interfere in a matter that was in the court.

She said the court would decide the issues about Mr Sharif’s health. “The government had implemented the court decisions in the past and will do so in the future as well,” she added.

Dr Awan said the first gesture of the prime minister was that Nawaz Sharif should be provided the best healthcare facilities from a hospital of his choice and his family should be taken on board on his treatment.

She expressed her best wishes for the early recovery of Mr Sharif and also said that the request of Maryam Nawaz for a meeting with her father was honoured.

The special assistant decried the statements of PML-N leaders that Maryam Nawaz was sent to prison forcibly.

“There are laws in the country and we have to follow the jail manual even if it is for Maryam Bibi as her medical report states that she was healthy and normal with all tests cleared,” she added.

About Nawaz Sharif’s treatment abroad, she said if the doctors suggested it and the court decided that his treatment was not possible in the country, the decision will be made according to the set mechanism.

“These decisions are not made at the media or on the wishes of influential people as it was in the past,” she said.

Earlier, she said that five per cent elite have captured the system and resources of the country, while Manag*ing Director of Pakistan Baitul Maal Aun Abbas informed the reporters about an initiative to establish 300 women empowerment centres that will help eradicate poverty in the country.

Meanwhile Nawaz is taking blood thinning medicine to make the news every other week.

Kulsoom Nawaz had to die to prove to PTI trolls that she wasn’t faking it. Apparently PMLN members cannot have health problems.

LHC told Nawaz's condition 'serious'; court to reconvene soon

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday adjourned until 3pm the hearing of a bail petition filed by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif for the release of former premier Nawaz Sharif from the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on medical grounds.

After the prosecution and defence had concluded their arguments in the case, the court asked Punjab Advocate General Ahmed Jamal Sukhera, who was representing the provincial government, if Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz's names were placed on the Exit Control List. Sukhera responded that he can inform the court about the matter by 3pm after which the LHC adjourned the hearing.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Baqar Najafi, had heard the petition. The anti-corruption watchdog's prosecutor told the court that "every life, including that of Nawaz Sharif, is precious", adding that the former premier's condition was treatable.

After a struggle of three days, a six-member medical board, headed by Services Hospital Principal Ayaz Mahmood, had on Thursday diagnosed the reason for Nawaz's declining health. “It is acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a bleeding disorder, in which the immune system destroys platelets,” a board member had told Dawn yesterday. “We are hopeful that his condition will improve in a few days."

Doctors have said that the disease is treatable.

Today, Dr Ayaz submitted a detailed medical report of the former premier. He told the court that a medical board, which also includes Nawaz's personal physician, meets twice everyday to discuss the PML-N supremo's condition.

Nawaz's lawyer Ashtar Ausaf told the court today that the former premier's condition was "extremely serious".

Dr Ayaz told the court that Nawaz's platelet count was constantly reducing, adding that the hospital had conducted tests to see if Nawaz was suffering from dengue.

"We inject platelets every day but they destruct every day," Dr Ayaz said and added: "Something or the other is destroying Nawaz Sharif's platelets."

He said that steroids will have to be injected in order to treat Nawaz.

"We have to conduct a bone marrow test but we cannot inject a needle in Nawaz Sharif's bone."

Dr Ayaz informed the court that Nawaz is a diabetes patient and is suffering from several other ailments as well.

The bench told the doctor to apprise the court about Nawaz's recent condition by 12pm and adjourned the hearing until later in the day.

An accountability court had earlier this month granted NAB a 14-day physical remand of Nawaz in connection with the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The remand expired today.

IHC questions risk to Nawaz's health
Meanwhile, a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard Shehbaz's petition seeking the suspension of Nawaz's sentence in the Al-Azizia case and release on bail.

During the proceedings, Services Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Saleem Cheema, who is a member of the medical board, said that Nawaz's condition was dangerous.

The judge pointed out that the situation was not described as dangerous in the report. Dr Cheema, however, clarified that it had been mentioned towards the end of the report, which was presented in court.

The doctor said that the former premier's ailment had not yet been diagnosed, adding that while platelets were being formed, the levels were also falling. He said that they have to conduct some tests but can only do so once Nawaz's health improves.

Justice Kayani asked if the former premier was being provided with the best treatment, to which the doctor replied in the affirmative.

The IHC judge asked if there was a threat to the former premier's life, in response to which Dr Cheema said: "If he doesn't receive immediate treatment, his life is in danger."

He added that Nawaz's personal physician Dr Adnan Khan was aware of the situation.

"Is there any risk factor? Is this a fatal disease?" asked Justice Kayani, to which Dr Cheema responded: "If it is not treated."

Justice Farooq said that doctors are the best judges in this situation and they can provide the correct information regarding the medical treatment.

The hearing was adjourned till Tuesday as the court asked Dr Adnan Khan what his concerns were, adding that if he wanted he could attend the hearing or submit his concerns in writing.

Concluding the proceedings, Justice Kayani said that they were not medical experts and the doctors would have to explain whether there was a threat to Nawaz's life.

He said that Nawaz could not be granted bail on a legal basis; however, the court was looking at the petition on basis of the former premier's medical condition.

Accountability court hearing
Meanwhile, an accountability court in Lahore, where a hearing of the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case was held, demanded Nawaz's report by 1pm today.

NAB produced Maryam Nawaz and Yousuf Abbas, both of whom are named in the case, before the accountability court. The court extended their judicial remand until November 8 and adjourned the hearing till then.

The LHC are a disgrace- and will do anything for the corrupt people. Would any ordinary person even get a hearing, never mind bail. These disgusting corrupt judges and their equally disgusting political patrons need to be treated using the Chinese model.

Do you think Nawaz should be treated like the ‘normal’ prisoners? If not, Why should he be treated diffrently?

Yes he should be treated differently. He is the former PM of Pakistan and he deserves due respect.

However, Imran is not doing this out of the goodness of his heart or because he respects his position as a former PM.

The only reason why he is doing this is because he cannot afford to have Nawaz die on him.

If he dies while he is jail, it will create a huge mess for the government who will not be able to cope with the subsequent protests and long marches. Hence, he is trying whatever he can to ensure that he stays alive.

He tweeted this so that some gullible folks would praise him for his generosity, but that shouldn’t deter us from his true motive.

Why did she stand for election if she was ill? Is that also the PTI`s fault?

So what are you suggesting? She was healthy because she took part in the election and then suddenly dropped dead one day?

What she did is none of anyone’s business. The fact is that he had serious health problems and PTI trolls got egg on their face when she eventually succumbed to those problems.

NS was given 6 weeks to seek treatment- in those 6 weeks he had no treatment, instead used the time to meet up with the judge who jailed him. Is there no corrupt person whose **** you wont lick?

His health has deteriorated a lot in the last few days and he deserves first-class treatment as former PM. That is all.

And well done LHC. At least there is still hope for the country.

After the military, the judiciary hold the real power in the country. Unfortunately, most of them are in the pockets of the establishment and the ones who refuse to bow down are shamed and humiliated like Qazi Isa.

he should be given all the medical care he needs under strict supervision and not allowed to leave the country. I'm sure the health system he built while being in power for 33 odd years will ensure he can return to jail fit and healthy again.

His health has deteriorated a lot in the last few days and he deserves first-class treatment as former PM. That is all.

Why? He deserves the same treatment as all the prisoners! Is his life more valuable than the other prisoners? No, if you are believer in equality or have a conscience.

I am telling saying that she was being used by the family and if her family used her, why do you expect others to have sympathy? So the question remains- why did she fight the election, if she was ill?

I am telling saying that she was being used by the family and if her family used her, why do you expect others to have sympathy? So the question remains- why did she fight the election, if she was ill?

The question doesn’t remain. The fact is that she was unwell and PTI supporters should have zipped their mouths for once. Well perhaps they love to be humiliate so you cannot really blame them.

Why? He deserves the same treatment as all the prisoners! Is his life more valuable than the other prisoners? No, if you are believer in equality or have a conscience.

Please don’t talk about conscience again. Where is your conscience when you give your hard-earned money to the UK government so that they can produce and sell chemical weapons and kill muslims in the Middle-East?

It is not about value of life; it is about respecting position. Such exceptions are made in every country. You cannot treat a head of state like any other prisoner.

Pretty sure a deal is finalized between the establishment and nawaz, zardari and co.I think zardari and nawaz have agreed to return the nations looted wealth in exchange for their release and both of them will be ousted from politics barring bilawal keeping he will not go to far against the establishment.A good day indeed as the nation has been freed from these mafias and the looted money is finally coming home.

I cant believe you are willing to glorify these traitors and mafias .They do not deserve any remorse for what they have done to this country.

The MENTAL MIDGET STRIKES AGAIN-Yes, yes, you got your backside kicked yesterday for comparing your corruption with the British Foreign Policy, and then coming onto a website that was created by a British PK( hypocrisy and lying are second nature) .
A conscience is within, and its what you have control over, but a mental midget like you wouldnt know that because your dont have a conscience.
So if a head of state rapes and kills children you are happy for him to be treated better than a guy that is in prison because he couldnt pay his debt. So when you are mental midget, you dont think of these things. What a loser!!!

Two questions for our intellectuals :

1. Should someone who is a convicted criminal and disqualified for life from holding public office due to corruption charges whilst holding the highest office of PM - be still given the special treatment on the basis that he was an ex PM?

2. Does anyone else agree , should Pakistani Parliament not just pass a law to make all Pakistan politicians immune from prosecution and being convicted of any crime because clearly they are always innocent and do NO wrong , instead all accusations, charges, convictions and judgements against them are always politically motivated by the opposition and ‘establishment’ ? (Or does this injustice just happen against Nawaz and Zardari and their most trusted colleagues?)

It would have been a political suicide for Imran if Nawaz Sharif had died in jail . All the medical reports are being supervised by the Punjab Goverment, so it can't be forged.

The fact NAB didn't appeal against the bail and trust me federal goverment won't appeal on Monday as well :)

Nawaz Sharif has been unwell for a long time. Maybe it’s time to retire from politics and focus on his health.

May Allah grant him good health and a speedy recovery.

I just love the fact that his ’deteriorating health’ is coinciding with Fazlur Rehmans March.

Imran needs to watch out :)))

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif suffered angina pain on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at a Lahore hospital, DawnNewsTV quoted Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Principal Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz as saying.

The doctor refuted reports that the PML-N leader had suffered a heart attack.

The former prime minister was rushed to SIMS earlier this week after his personal physician raised an alarm about his deteriorating health.

On Tuesday, doctors at the hospital had termed Nawaz's condition as 'serious' despite the transfusion of three mega units of platelets within hours of his admission.

According to the medical tests carried out on Tuesday, the platelet count of the former premier had "dropped from 16,000 to a critical level of 2,000" when he was brought to hospital late on Monday night, prompting the medical board members to go for "immediate transfusion of the platelets to save his life", one of the board members had said.

After a struggle of three days, a six-member medical board, headed by Dr Mahmood, on Thursday diagnosed the reason for Nawaz's declining health.

"It is acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a bleeding disorder, in which the immune system destroys platelets," a board member had told Dawn. He said the treatment was given to the former prime minister in the light of his diagnosis. "We are hopeful that his condition will improve in a few days," he added.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday accepted a request by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif to hear today a plea to secure bail for former premier Nawaz Sharif in the Al Azizia case.

The hearing of the bail plea will be held at 4pm. A two-member bench comprising IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani will hear the case.

During the hearing of the appeal filed today, the bench noted that a medical report had been submitted in the court during yesterday's hearing of the bail plea and inquired why a request for an early hearing had to be filed today.

Lawyer Khawaja Haris claimed that Nawaz had suffered a "minor heart attack" last night and that his "life is in danger". A copy of a verdict issued by the Lahore High Court yesterday, in which Nawaz had been granted bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, was also submitted in the court.

IHC issued notices to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and National Accountability Bureau Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal and directed them to send a representative to court by 4pm today.

Shehbaz had appealed the IHC to grant bail to Nawaz in the Al Azizia case — in which the latter is sentenced to seven years in prison — on medical grounds earlier this week. A two-member bench of the IHC had heard the bail petition yesterday and after questioning Services Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Saleem Cheema, who is part of the medical board treating Nawaz, the high court had adjourned hearing until Tuesday.

In the appeal filed today, Shehbaz urged the court to take up the bail plea today owing to Nawaz's "extremely critical condition". It said that the plea, which was heard yesterday, did not mention that on the night of October 24, Nawaz had suffered an angina attack "as a direct result of the medicine being administered to him to enhance his platelets".

Yesterday, Nawaz had been granted bail in the ongoing Chaudhry Sugar Mills case by the Lahore High Court, where Shehbaz had filed a similar plea.

The former premier was rushed to the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) earlier this week after his personal physician raised an alarm about his deteriorating health.

Do the courts open for all jailed inmates requests for bail on Saturdays? This drama goes on.

The way Sharif and his gang of journalists/media houses build narrative is just amazing. Entire Geo/Jang mafia along with liberal group of Imtiaz Alam, Marvi, Rumi and dozens more and many in Dawn, Express etc build this narrative and people just follow it.

Watched Hamid Mir claiming Sharif's health was neglected so FIR should be filed against Imran Khan if something happens to him. Fact is Sharifs has had heart issues for few years now and have FAR more facilities than any prisoner can ever imagine.

Hamid Mir also claimed Imran Khan has been begging Zardari go him him NRO..yes you read it right...according to him Imran Khan is begging Zardari to give him NRO when in fact Zardari, Sharif are in jail and negotiating deals. This is how this mafia builds narrative.

IK has got one chance to knock out this mafia, he needs to do what the mafia does and make the life hell for their supporters and abetters. I want to use the ISI and IB and nail these crooks. These accuse him of being a dictator, well its time to live up to it.

They are not paying a penny back. The sons loved money more than their mother, they didn't even go back to the funeral.

According to inside sources they have that's why they are allowed to go out and i can personally confirm they have agreed to RETURNED the looted money. In the coming days zardari, khursheed shah, maryam and hamza ,ALL will all come out and formally exit politics they will have NO ROLE IN PAKISTANI POLITICS AND THAT'S THE FINAL DECISION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT! ,PERIOD! .You can book mark and save this post.

The deal has been made with the establishment and Imran can't do anything about it.

People must not get the wrong expression that they have been granted the clean sheet. They all have agreed to return the looted money you can even work out shahbazs and nawaz's body language just to make sure :)

As long as the stolen money is returned and the Sharifs are not allowed to return to Pak, I dont care.

Same withe me they can rot anywhere they want as long as the money is returned to the national treasury.

Not happening. These crooks need to be facing hell in prison to pay back the money. They haven't sold their souls for money just to hand it back without a fight to the death.

I also agree with you but the main thing the establishment wanted was the looted wealth and they were trying to convince imran the same thing.Imran was adamant with the stance which you have just talked about and the establishment tried months and months until imran finally agreed to only go for the looted wealth and you can notice this in imran khans speeches in which he said return the looted wealth and you can go out of the country instead of his previous statements IF I WILL GIVE THEM NRO THAN I WILL BE DOING INJUSTICE TO THIS COUNTRY. You can check the clips of his speeches. It looks like imran has succumbed to the demands of the establishment of only agreeing for the returned looted wealth which the sharifs and zardari's have returned back and hence they will move out of the country and officially there politics are OVER! We must trust this strategy of our establishment and shouldn't get too much disheartened.

I find it very difficult to live with any agreement where they just pay back the money and don't serve time. I also find it very difficult to believe that they will pay back a penny unless they really suffer. That's why I don't believe there is any agreement at least with IK. They are not paying.

All i can say is this rotten, dead and system for the mafias is tumbling at an very fast rate and you can all see it unfold in front of your eyes every day!

ISLAMABAD. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has refused to leave the country and go for treatment abroad, said sources within the Sharif family on Saturday.

Family sources told The News that the former prime minister, who is suffering from various diseases and was admitted in Lahore’s Services Hospital, has said that he wants to get his treatment done in the country and is ready to face the music in Pakistan. They added that Nawaz is in good spirits and is fighting his ailment with courage.

Sources also say that the PML-N supremo despite his deteriorating health is hoping to get himself exonerated from the charges that he has been convicted off. They added that Nawaz has also decided to stay back in the country as he is confident that he will win the legal battle.

Family sources also said that the former premier’s eldest son Hussain Nawaz, who had visited Madina to pray for his father's health, will be arriving in London on Monday. Hussain has been monitoring his father’s health and is also in touch with British doctors who had previously treated the former premier.

Hussain Nawaz, Hasan Nawaz and their younger sister Asma spoke to their father soon after he was granted bail in the Al-Azizia reference, said the sources. They added that the three wanted their father to move to London for his treatment, however the former premier is satisfied with his treatment in Pakistan.

Apparently the judge asked the govt to guarantee his life until Tues, yes you read correctly. The level of Judiciary

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s health deteriorated on Sunday after there was a sudden drop in his platelet count, hospital sources said.

According to sources, Nawaz’s lungs have been affected and his condition is unstable.

Sources said that under the current circumstances, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader cannot be discharged from the hospital.

Nawaz was rushed to Services Hospital from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore detention centre Monday night after his health condition suddenly deteriorated. Earlier, he was shifted from Central Jail Kot Lakhpat to NAB Lahore building at Thokar Niaz Beg after the Bureau got his 14-day physical remand on October 11 in connection with the Chaudhry Sugar Mills corruption case investigation.

On Saturday, the PML-N supremo was granted interim bail in Al-Azizia reference on medical grounds.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Lahore High Court on Friday had approved the bail of former prime minister in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The bail was approved on medical grounds.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said he could not give a guarantee about anyone's life, referring to the Islamabad High Court proceedings last week in which the bench had asked government representatives to "take responsibility" for incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif's health.

Prime Minister Imran, while addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Baba Guru Nanak University at Nankana Sahib, said: "Today I read a news that the court has asked the federal and provincial governments whether they can guarantee Nawaz Sharif's life by tomorrow.

"I cannot even guarantee my life by tomorrow, so how can I give a guarantee for someone else's life?"

On Saturday, the IHC granted Nawaz Sharif post-arrest interim bail until Tuesday (tomorrow) in the Al Azizia reference. Nawaz is currently under treatment at Lahore Services Hospital for his low platelet count.

During the proceedings, the federal government had refused to take responsibility for Nawaz's physical well-being.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah had observed that if the provincial and federal governments had performed their duties, the matter would have not come before the court.

When the interior secretary had informed the IHC that the federal government would not take any responsibility of the former premier’s health, the court expressed displeasure and remarked "don’t play politics with [the] court" as the law defines certain responsibility of the state.

Prime Minister Imran today said that life and death are in God's hands and humans can only try.

"The federal government, especially the provincial government, has fully tried. We provided the best medical care to Nawaz Sharif," he said, adding that a doctor had been brought from Karachi and he had also sent the chief executive of Shaukat Khanum Hospital to check on Nawaz's health.

"We can only try. Humans cannot give a guarantee of life and death. We can try [and] we fully tried," he reiterated.

Azadi march
Commenting on the opposition's 'Azadi March', led by JUI-F, Prime Minister Imran recalled that he had earlier said that a time would come when the all the "corrupt elements" of Pakistan would come together.

"What is the purpose of the Azadi March [...] their purpose is not that the government is failing, they are scared that the government is succeeding.

"Have you ever heard [this]: 'Azadi March is coming to seek the prime minister's resignation'," he said, questioning why they wanted his resignation in the first place.

"I want to give all of them [opposition] a message: whether you all come together and stage this march or you want to use any other method of blackmail [...] until I am alive, you will not get a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)."

Following the premier's address, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb condemned his remarks, saying they were coming from a scared and unsuccessful individual. It is the prime minister who requires an NRO, she said in a statement.

Kartarpur
Addressing the ceremony after laying the foundation stone of the Baba Guru Nanak University, Prime Minister Imran said that today a very symbolic step had been taken.

The premier said that opponents had questioned why Pakistan was opening the Kartarpur Corridor in light of India's brutality in occupied Kashmir.

"Kartarpur is the Madina of [the] Sikh community. Nankana is their Makkah.

"No matter how bad our relations may be, we should never stop those who admire Guru Nanak."

On Thursday, Pakistan and India signed the agreement on the Kartarpur Corridor, paving the way for its inauguration next month ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev.

Foreign Office spokesman Dr Faisal had said that as per the initiative of the premier, the agreement had been signed while a formal inauguration of the project will be held on November 9.

The judge was asking federal or Punjab government to give guarantee that nothing will happen to NS's life if he is not given bail. What kind of judge is this. No person can give guarantee of his own life how the hell is the government expected to give guarantee for a corrupt gluttonous pig's health.

These judges have been hand in glove with the Nooras since day one, I'm surprised they even disqualified him and sent him to jail in the first place.

This should go viral around the world to embarrass a pathetic, financially, morally and intellectually corrupt Judiciary. I am amazed the PTI media cell hasn't got this in the Foreign media.

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: A team of doctors spent another day trying to figure out the cause of a sudden drop in the platelet count of Nawaz Sharif, who had been admitted to Lahore Services Hospital a week ago, amid speculation that he might have to be taken to some other health facility within the country or abroad for better treatment.

However, senior leadership of his party ruled out any such possibility, arguing that no decision could be taken before seeing any improvement in his condition.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will on Tuesday resume hearing of the petition seeking suspension of sentence handed down to him in Al-Azizia reference, as the interim bail granted to the former prime minister expires on Tuesday (today).

He has been under treatment at the Services Hospital since Oct 21. His platelet count hovered around 28,000 — some 122,000 less than the minimum normal level — on Monday. “Despite doctors’ best efforts, it has not yet been diagnosed why Nawaz Sharif’s platelets drastically drop to dangerous level,” his personal physician Dr Adnan Khan tweeted.

The doctors’ panel is faced with a tough task. They are striving to create a balance between the doses for increasing his platelets and the medicines being given for his heart condition. According to the medical board, headed by Services Hospital principal Dr Mahmood Ayaz, the patient’s platelets were fluctuating owing to the medicines being administered to him for his cardiac disease.

“The diagnosis is yet to be ascertained,” he said, adding he had severe atherosclerotic ‘coronary and carotid artery disease’ with co-morbidities (HTN, DM, CKD) and because of subsequent serious effects of treatment he had developed NSTEMI (Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction); being managed on ACS protocol.

There were rumours that his family might press for shifting him to the Sharif Medical City — close to his Jati Umra residence — despite government spokesperson’s assertion that Nawaz Sharif was happy with the treatment he was getting from the 10-doctor panel at Services Hospital. Such a move, however, could help the government pass on the sensitive responsibility of his treatment to his family.

Regarding his shifting to any other health facility within the country or abroad, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secretary general Ahsan Iqbal said: “The first and foremost effort of doctors is stabilise Mian sahib’s condition. Once his condition is stabilised the question of his going abroad will arise.” Asked if Mr Sharif was being persuaded to leave for London for his better treatment, Mr Iqbal reiterated: “This will be looked into once Mian sahib’s condition improves.”

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will resume hearing of the petition seeking suspension of sentence handed down to him in Al-Azizia reference on Tuesday when his interim bail was going to expire.

Earlier on Oct 25 the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had been asked to submit its response to the petition by a division bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani. The court also had sought a comprehensive report from the medical board constituted to examine Nawaz’s health besides asking his personal physician Dr Adnan Khawaja to apprise the bench about his health condition.

Only a day later, the counsel for the ex-PM moved an application before the IHC stating that his condition was critical and he required immediate release on bail. The NAB did not oppose the bail on “humanitarian grounds”, while the federal and provincial governments neither opposed nor favoured his release. Subsequently, an interim bail was granted to the former premier till Tuesday.

However, for linking the interim bail order to some kind of “deal”, contempt of court proceedings were conducted against TV anchorpersons by a single-member IHC bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah.

The special division bench, which granted interim bail to the former premier, pointed out that the provincial government did not follow the jail manual and prison rule that allowed them to release an inmate on medical grounds. The bench also directed Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to appear in person before the court on Tuesday.

The then judge of accountability court Mohammad Arshad Malik had sentenced seven years imprisonment to Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference in December 2018.

Seven months later his party released a secretly recorded video of judge Malik in which he confessed of convicting the ex-premier under duress.

The judge, however, later accused PML-N supporters of blackmailing him for his acquittal and lodged a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against suspects Nasir Butt and others.

The IHC chief justice will also take up the petition of Nasir Butt in which the latter requested to produce evidence against the ex-accountability judge on judicial record.

Saturday is a regular working day for the aforementioned courts.

Secondly, I haven’t admitted anything - if you want to make accusations it is your problem. Since there is no possible way for me to prove or disprove anything here, you can say what you want.
