A few weeks back I was messing about with statsguru and the result was this thread:
http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...tat-about-Misbah-Younis-and-successful-chases
The first post in that thread isn't what I care about though, as that's just an interesting little nugget that doesn't mean all that much.
What IS interesting, is the bit halfway down the page about ODI finishers. I ended up compiling a spreadsheet with about 50 names and their success rate in chasing down ODI targets but I have plenty of free time on my hands so I want to take it a step further and get unnecessarily nerdy about this.
In compiling my initial results, the top order players obviously had lower finishing percentages than those batsmen in the middle/lower order so I want to examine the relationship between batting position and finishing success rate.
This way, we might be able to identify outliers who are substantially better or worse at seeing an ODI chase through to the end. Of course, for something like this the greater the sample size the better.
So what I want from you lot is players who you want me to look at. They can be players you think were good finishers, terrible chokers, merely average, players you are curious about or whatever. They can be from test nations or associate nations, it doesn't really matter. Openers, tailender, whatever.
But, here is the important part. If I'm going to spend (waste?) my time doing this, you lot need to STOP BEING IDIOTS AND READ THE NEXT BIT FOR ONCE
Right now I have these names already:
Hussey
Jonty Rhodes
Symonds
Dhoni
Bevan
AB de Villiers
SK Raina
Pollock
Misbah
Razzaq
Klusener
Shakib Al Hasan
Viv Richards
Collingwood
Imran Khan
Steve Waugh
Miandad
Inzamam
Kohli
Ponting
Umar Akmal
Mohammed Yousuf
Yuvraj
Azharuddin
Kallis
Kapil Dev
Ajay Jadeja
Moin Khan
Lara
Wasim
Salim Malik
Shoaib Malik
Ijaz Ahmed
Jayawardene
Marlon Samuels
Saeed Anwar
Aravinda de Silva
Younis Khan
Dravid
Tendulkar
Afridi
Jayasuriya
As you can see there is a distinct Asian flavour to proceeding so feel free to rectify things. They can be players you think were good finishers, terrible chokers, merely average, players you are curious about or whatever. - Take the time to check that you're not just repeating a player that has already been named
- Use your brain for a second and don't name players who haven't played plenty of ODIs
- Don't argue over players that other people have named, I DON'T CARE
- I mean it, if this turns into the usual buffoonery then my ignore list is going to grow exponentially.
- SERIOUSLY, don't repeat players because this is going to take bloody ages so have the courtesy to take 5 seconds to 'CTRL+F' and check that they haven't been named already.
- If you guys waste my time then I'll ask a mod to lock the thread and I'll shelve this and go outside and get some Vitamin D instead
