What's new

Netflix Originals, TV shows and Movies

It's a brilliant show. Unfortunately, it has been put in an indefinite hold. The cast and the crew were released from their contracts primarily because Fincher had other projects going on, and he felt unfair to hold other people from getting new work.

Oh that's bad news.

It finished at a tantalising spot too and looked all set for a great season 3.

Finished watching Jailbirds.

Crazy reality television series about female inmates at the Sacramento County Jail.

Eye-opening series, worth a watch if you are into this sort of series.

Would anyone here recommend Orange is the new black?

Just wondering if it's worth the binge watch.

Started watching Stateless.

A cult escapee, refugee, office worker, and bureaucrat find their lives intertwined in an immigration detention center.

Very good, worth a watch.

On season 7 of Blacklist and season 3 of Homeland.
Didn’t realise how good an actress Clare Danes is.

Enjoying both of them so far

Started watching Orthodox.

Really interesting. All about a Hasidic Jewish woman in Brooklyn flees to Berlin from an arranged marriage and is taken in by a group of musicians — until her past comes calling.

Ozark started S2, gets so dark but subtle, best mob show in a while.

Out of curiosity, how many shows do you watch over a year vs how many books you read? I rarely go beyond first episode of any popular show as I don't have time to commit myself.

I read 3-6 books depending upon work, guessing 3-6 new shows. Mostly watch reruns of Psych, It's always sunny, office , snl for time pass though.

Used to watch a lot of movies though till Jan before cancelling the movie pass as it became too much viewing and lost its value(watched 1-2 every week last year)

Psych is awesome!. Took a chance on it on Amazon prime now I'm also watching A Million Little Things ...

Fear City

New York versus The Mafia, Netflix’s three-part series on law enforcement’s quest to bring down New York’s mob in the 1980s.

Very good, really enjoyed it.

If you are into crime series about the Mafia, this is for you.

Reckoning.

As dead bodies start showing up in a quiet, suburban community, the ensuing investigation has dire consequences for two fathers and their families.

I'm up to episode 8. It's pretty good if you are into your serial killer type series

World's Most Wanted.

A series that profiles five individuals who are all suspected of committing heinous crimes and escaping imprisonment.

Brilliant to watch. Highly recommend it.

Finally started watching Money Heist.

Really interesting start.

Just finished watching Dirty John Season 2 the Betty Broderick story. Brilliant show for anyone interested in true crime.

Watching season 3 of good girls and amazing show personally season 3 isn't as good as season 1 or 2 but still a great show and season to watch

I watched a couple of months ago don't know I posted it but the last dance documentary about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls really amazing enjoyed it

Dirty John Series 2. The Betty Broderick Story.

This follows the shocking true story of seemingly perfect Californian suburban housewife Betty, whose gritty divorce ended in a double murder.

Probably not as good as the first season, but really good. A must watch for true crime fans.

Ozark quite compelling but loads of plot holes and continuity flaws.

Mimics Gomorra in certain respects but lacks a clear production edge.

High Score great docuseries on digital gaming evolution 9/10

Will check it out, I finished Better Call Saul and now on Dark which is very engaging, I just wonder where they can go with it and for how long without unveiling the mysteries of the missing kids; then again I was a big fan of LOST :yk3 other then that have also been watching Mandalorian, I primarily got Disney+ for you the younger sibling :yk first two episodes have been decent, simple and effective

Dirty John Season one

Can’t believe I only just got into this....

Too much of a masala flick, right?

Yes very Bollywoodesque. Too far fetched.

Currently watching Criminal UK Season 2 - not as good as the 1st season, but still an interesting concept.

American Murder: The Family Next Door.

Using raw, firsthand footage, this documentary examines the disappearance of Shanann Watts and her children, and the terrible events that followed.

Highly recommend this. Incredible viewing.

Ratched.

Ratched is an American psychological thriller web television series about the character of the same name from Ken Kesey's 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Created by Evan Romansky and developed by Ryan Murphy, the series stars Sarah Paulson in the title role and serves as a prequel to the novel.

Dark, strange, but very watchable.

The Haunting of Bly Manor

The Haunting of Bly Manor is an American supernatural horror drama web television series, created by Mike Flanagan for Netflix, and loosely based on Henry James's work, particularly his 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. It is the follow-up series to The Haunting of Hill House and the second entry in The Haunting anthology series. The creative team and much of the cast of Hill House returned for Bly Manor, but the two series' narratives are not connected.

Worth watching if you like your horror films/series.

It was alright I guess, Netflix is going a bit overboard with the Murder Documentaries. This whole case was pretty straight forward.

Also, I don’t think it’s ok for the producers to make a dead person’s private conversations public just to make some $$$.

The conversation were already public. This isn't the first documentary on the event

Discovered Mindhunter just scrolling through Netflix before it exploded. Superb series. Such a shame that it's been delayed. David Fincher is excellent at grounded, unsettling mysteries. Seven and Gone Girl are some of the best films I've seen in that genre.

This is tame compared to the YouTube version

Well they must have had the ok from her relatives to use that footage.

Well they must have had the ok from her relatives to use that footage.

The video footage is fine but not a big fan of sharing of her private texts regarding her marital and sex life. I found that to be a bit disrespectful.

Five ways the virus has changed Netflix

Demand for online entertainment surged when the world went into lockdown earlier this year. But how is Netflix faring after that initial boost?

1. Growth is slowing - even more than Netflix had expected
According to its latest results, Netflix added just 2.2 million new subscribers in the three months to 30 September, as the surge of demand for its services prompted by the pandemic faded.

While it had warned that a slowdown was likely, the final figure came in below its July forecast of 2.5 million, sending the firm's shares down 5% in after-hours trade.

"The pandemic streaming party has come to an end," Paolo Pescatore, analyst at PP Foresight, declared.

Still, Netflix reminded investors that it's still on track for a record number of 34 million new subscribers in 2020 - or more than 200 million overall.

2. The Old Guard, an action film starring Charlize Theron, was the Netflix hit of the quarter

Netflix said 78 million member households watched The Old Guard, a Netflix original, in the first four weeks after its launch, making it the firm's most popular title of the quarter.

Enola Holmes, Project Power and The Kissing Booth 2 were also popular, attracting 76 million, 75 million and 66 million households in the first four weeks after their debut.

Of course, those figures should be taken with a grain of salt - Netflix counts any viewing time of more than two minutes towards its tally. And the viewer numbers it shares are focused on its own original productions.

3. Markets outside of the US are absolutely critical to the business
The number of international subscribers to Netflix had already eclipsed those in the US - and overseas growth continues to be critical.

In the most recent quarter, the strongest subscriber growth occurred in its Asia Pacific region, which accounted for more than one million new subscribers - almost half of the sign-ups. The firm boasted that it now claims memberships in a "double-digit" share of broadband-connected homes in Japan and South Korea.

But the firm still makes its most revenue per user in the US, so retention in its home market is key, especially as competition from rivals like Disney and HBO heats up.

On that score, Netflix sought to reassure investors, writing in its quarterly update that "retention remains healthy and engagement per member household was up solidly" compared to last year.

4. Now the race is on for more content
The shutdown in film and television productions, forced by lockdowns this spring, has placed a major focus on how Netflix and its competitors will get hold of new offerings to retain their members.

Netflix downplayed those concerns, saying it was making "good and careful progress" in production and it expected the number of Netflix productions launching next year to exceed 2020 in every quarter.

Netflix stands to benefit from the struggles of cinema operators, said Sophie ****-Yates, equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown. But as homebound audiences burn through material at a faster rate, costs will increase - and could push the company to raise prices, she warned.

"Original content might keep customers, but it costs a pretty penny, and is downright ghoulish for the bottom line," she said. "If consumers are expected to burn through content at a faster rate, the cash flow hole will in theory get bigger."

5. The slowdown in production has helped its profits
The firm reported a record $790 million in quarterly profit, as revenue increased more than expected to $6.4bn, thanks in part to the appreciation of the euro against the dollar.

And the firm said its profit margins have also improved, due to the temporary slowdown in production.

Trial of Chicago 7.

Aaron Sorkin proving he is one of the greatest writers, and upcoming director with the movie.

The ending was absolutley superb

You do know it's based on a true story, right? Not like your fictional history book which says cricket was the national sport of the US

The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo

This documentary examines a mother's tireless crusade to jail her daughter's murderer after Mexico's justice system failed to do so.

Very sad, but really interesting.

Started watching The Fall.

An Irish-British crime drama television series filmed and set in Northern Ireland starring Gillian Anderson as Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson and features Jamie Dornan as serial killer Paul Spector.

It's pretty good.

The video footage is fine but not a big fan of sharing of her private texts regarding her marital and sex life. I found that to be a bit disrespectful.

Yes, but again, they must have discussed the content with her family before publishing it, otherwise a lawsuit would have been served no doubt.

Watched Letterman’s show My Next Guest is - the Dave Chappelle episode. Very good and insightful.

Also, I didnt know Chappelle was Muslim.

I suppose, i guess my point is that just because something is legally ok doesn’t make it ethically ok as well.

The case was pretty much as open and shut as they come and there is nothing much to take away from it atleast in my opinion. Seems like the producers and the family just wanted to make a few bucks of a dead woman and her kids.

That is just my opinion though and I will leave it at that.

Recommend the miniseries "The Queen's Gambit" starring Anya Taylor-Joy and directed by Scott Frank ( screenwriter of Out of Sight, Minority Report, Logan). Centered around chess but you don't need to know the game to enjoy it. A few script related issues, skipped over details, feminism overdose, far away from reality but worth watching. Unlike most movies the chess details are correct, incorporates famous games, Kasparov and Pandolfini were consultants for the chess part so there you go. Fictional work based on an 80s American novel of the same name, cult classic. Heath Ledger wanted to direct it before he tragically died.

Won't reveal the plot and the interesting parts lest I spoil the fun, but rest assured this will bag a few awards in Emmy, Golden Globes.

JaDed anna try panni parunga and others as well, just watch the first episode and you might finish it in one go.

Swashbuckler absolutely brilliant series , just finished it 10/10 , finally netflix gets one show right till the end.
Best female character in a mini series in a long long time, hopefully gets the deserving awards.

I'm watching it right now. Who thought a show about chess could be so interesting. I think i've got like 2 episodes to go. Binged most of it.

The last netflix show I watched was 'The Spy' starring Sasha Baron Cohen, which I loved particularly because it is based on the real life story of Israeli super spy Eli Cohen - fascinating story of how he rose to almost become Syrian defence minister.

For anyone into Ancient Egypt, I highly recommend Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb.

Glad you enjoyed it.

I wanted to write my review about this, mostly the chess part. A few historical inaccuracies which diminish the accomplishments of certain legends, hate false info about real people like Georgian legend Nona Gaprindashvili. Beth Harmon's key games are based on historical games played by elite men players. Would have been nice to include a few brilliant games won by famous female players. Busy with studies now, time permitting I will share my detailed thoughts about this series.

Finally netflix gets one Indian content right - Ludo best mainstream bollywood movie of this year.

Watching season 2 of Fargo - very good.

Just started The Crown which is marvellous. John Lithgow’s Churchill is miles better than the overrated Gary Oldman version. Matt Smith’s D of E is heroic one instant and car-crashingly racist the next, facing down a bull elephant menacing Elizabeth, then asking a Kenyan soldier where he stole his Victoria Cross from.

Absolutely brilliant. One of the best true crime documentary I have seen.

Yes it's great viewing.

Sometimes with true crime documentaries the interest reduces, but this is just brilliant right to the end.

Paranormal.

In late 1960s, Refaat, Egyptian professor of hematology at the university, who considers himself unlucky, meets Maggie, a friend of his youth, while studying in Scotland. However, the story revolves around a world full of supernatural stories and mysterious events that Refaat himself experienced or are narrated to him.

Really enjoying this.

Queen's Gambit.

Watched 3 episodes so far - brilliant.
