Netflix Originals, TV shows and Movies

Started watching True Story

Starring Kevin Hart,Wesley Snipes,Tawny Newsome

A world-famous comedian desperately searches for a way out after a night in Philadelphia with his brother threatens to sabotage more than his success.

Looks pretty good so far.

Not enjoyed the latest series.

Nowhere near as good as the earlier ones in my opinion.

Just finished watching it.
I didn't like the first five episodes of this season but Part 2 has been very good.
Back to its best...

Noticed Part 2 is out.

I said to myself I won't watch any more of it, but I might give it a final chance :)

I felt the same but so glad I watched it.
Definitely better than the first part...
In my opinion some of the acting is off the scale...

Derek is an interesting one. I liked the pilot and the first season. The second season seemed to dip in quality though — Karl Pilkington was missed. And I’m still not sure if (genre-wise) the show is meant to be a comedy, a drama, a sitcom, a tearjerker, a mockumentary, a social commentary, a mixture of some/all of these things, or something else!

I think in terms of genre its a mix of all of those things you said. Your right seasom 2 does take a bit of dip in quality. Season 1 was special.

The Confession Tapes - Season 2

More from this true crime documentary series investigates cases where people convicted of murder claim their confessions were coerced, involuntary or false.

Shocking!

137 Shots

In this documentary, law enforcement faces scrutiny as Americans demand justice after police violence claims multiple Black lives in Cleveland.

Eye-opening, shocking, terribly sad.

Very interesting documentary.

Will check it out, any other live action material catch your eye lately or a good horror show ?

I’ve started Paranormal (meant to be the best show in Egypt I think) and it has been decent a few episodes in

Paranormal is excellent.

Really enjoyed it.

Hope they make more series.

Don’t look up.

I was looking forward to this movie, star studded cast and all, but turned out to be a disappointment. Sure it’s meant to be satire, but not a touch on Adam’s previous work like the Big Short.

5/10

I watched the trailer and honestly except for the cast the plot and trailer looked super generic and boring.

The Girl from Oslo

8/10

Excellent watch, great story which shows how a Norwegian girl who comes to Israel on vacations to celebrate her birthday gets kidnapped by ISIS. Thereafter its a tussle between Israeli government, HAMAS and ISIS to use to the girl for their own political gains.

Will anyone who has watched Fauda recommend it? Having watched 4 episodes of it, don't know if I should go whole hog and watch all 3 seasons!

Sounds rubbish.

This was on the list for me to watch tonight. Ill give it a miss now!

Don't look Up is a comedy gem on Netflix starring Meryl Streep, Leo D Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Highy recommend.

Streep plays the female version of President Trump, who refuses to acknowledge a deadly comet is heading towards earth and starts the political movement called 'don't look up' - a riff on MAGA - that lives in denial about the impending disaster.

Caprio and Lawrence are the scientists trying to alert the world about the comet.

If you dont mind the palestinians incessantly potrayed throughout as inept, corrupt, terrorists and the villains then yh watch it

Pakistani actor Humayun Saeed is set to play Dr. Hasnat Khan, one of Princess Diana’s partners after her divorce from Prince Charles of Wales, in the upcoming fifth season of the Netflix series The Crown, according to a report from Variety.

Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell’s book Diana: The Royal Truth noted the significance of her relationship to Khan. He claimed Diana asked him “if it was possible to arrange a private marriage” between her and the British-Pakistani heart surgeon, recalling the princess saying that “this was her soulmate, this was the man she loved more than any other.”

started watching arcane, a few episodes in, not sure how the story will play out but the animation is top rate, cant remember the last time i saw a show simply to look at the visuals. hope the story pans out as good as the presentation.

Am a big horror fan but apart from the odd series from Flanagan, there’s not much to offer on Netflix in terms of TV series, I have picked out most of the decent movies to and the library is thin in this genre

Have you watched Blood Red Sky ? I loved this movie!!

Full of action , suspense and drama. 9/10

Also watched Awake. Really interesting movie, not horror but a good thriller. 8/10

Millionaire murderer Robert Durst dies in prison

Millionaire convicted murderer Robert Durst has died in prison at the age of 78, according to his lawyer.

Durst died as a California prisoner after pleading guilty in September to killing his friend Susan Berman.

He murdered her to stop her talking to police about his wife's disappearance. Police believe he killed two others.

The US real estate heir turned fugitive unwittingly confessed in an HBO crime documentary series about himself.

Durst's lawyer, Chip Lewis, confirmed that he died at the San Joaquin General Hospital while in the custody of the California Department of Corrections.

He said that his death was due to "natural causes" and that he had been suffering from numerous medical issues.

Durst was sentenced to life in prison in October for the 2000 killing of Berman, who was his long-time confidante and spokeswoman.

His trial had been delayed for more than a year due to the Covid pandemic. Two days after his sentencing he was admitted to hospital with Covid and placed on a ventilator, according to his trial lawyer.

Durst - whose family have owned a series of New York City skyscrapers, including an investment in the World Trade Center - was investigated after a recording of him confessing was used in the 2015 HBO documentary series The Jinx.

"What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course," he was recorded saying to himself in an apparent hot mic moment.

Prosecutors say that he also murdered his neighbour, Morris Black, while living as a fugitive in Texas nine months after killing Berman.

Durst claimed to have shot him accidentally, before going on to dismember his body and dump the parts in Galveston Bay.

After a 45-day manhunt, he was arrested for shoplifting a chicken sandwich from a grocery store in Pennsylvania, only a few miles from where he attended university. He was found with thousands of dollars in cash in his rental car, as well as cannabis and Black's driving licence.

He claimed self-defence at his 2003 trial, and was acquitted after arguing that he fled because he thought his story would not be believed.

Durst is also suspected in the 1982 death of his wife Kathie Durst, whose body has never been found. She was legally declared dead in 2017.

He was formally indicted for her murder in November by the Westchester Country District Attorney's office in New York.

"After 40 years spent seeking justice for her death, I know how upsetting this news must be for Kathleen Durst's family," District Attorney Miriam Rocah said in a statement on Monday.

"We had hoped to allow them the opportunity to see Mr Durst finally face charges for Kathleen's murder because we know that all families never stop wanting closure, justice and accountability."

The office added that more information on the Kathie Durst case would be released to the public in the coming days.

If anyone is bored of watching action, horror, thrillers, and wants a light hearted romantic comedy then Home Town Cha Cha Cha is quite soothing. It is a South Korean series dupped in English.

Nice one not seen either going to check these out!

A horror show I think you might like is Paranormal, it’s the most popular show in Egypt, only one season so far but when it released it did well globally

Watched Countdown . About an app which gives the users date of death. Interesting concept. 7/10

Just binged on season four Kobe's Kai!

Absolutely brilliant

Did you mean Kobra Kai? It's amazing, I did the same. It's incredible how they manage to make something so cheesy and old school so addictive. Says a lot about the original Karate Kid movie, which also had no right to be as entertaining as it was.

I watched it when it was on youtube itself, I was A huge fan of the old Karate Kid,one of the best growing up and to show it from the antagonist pov was amazing.

Credit where it’s due: This whole series happened due to one episode of How I met your mother, where Barney actually is a fan of Johnny..and he comes for his bday..

Yes sorry I meant Kobra Kai!

I saw the first two karate kid films on a VCR so couldn't even be bothered to go to the cinema.
You are right it's incredible how they've managed to make this so interesting.
My 19 year old son actually watched the first two films prior to season one and he got really into it too.
He didn't think that much of the films either but is loving the series.

The two lead characters are just so good to watch and you would think it could get really cheesy but it doesn't. it just seems to work beautifully.

I'm sure Will Smith's son will make a cameo at some stage as I think he's one of the producers.

I wasn't aware of this!

The films from the 80's were decent but never did I think a series would come out of it 30 years later and if anything this series, at least for me, has made me look back even more fondly at the old films.

This season has just taken it to another level.

Stay Close

Another top top British mini drama from Netflix.

Totally engrossing and I'll give it a 8 out of ten.
Beats all the silly films currently showing in the cinema

On my list to watch after Breaking Bad.

Season 3 of After Life.

Brilliant, sad, funny, just like the first 2 seasons.

Very ordinary. Tries too hard. Some of the acting is low tier.

Watched The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman

A cruel con man masquerading as a British spy manipulates and steals from his victims, leaving ruined families in his wake.

Shocking, crazy, brilliant.

Started watching Stay Close.

When Carlton Flynn vanishes 17 years to the night after Stewart Green did, it sets off a chain reaction in the lives of people connected to both men.

Hated it. Awful.

In that case move on to Safe.
Maybe this one will be more your cup of tea :)

I would say 90% of stuff on Netflix are just filler shows & movies. Might cancel my subscription.

It does but in between the crap it has the tendency to produce absolute quality which poses a subscription issue for me.

What are the alternatives which you’d consider ?

It would be good if HBO Max was available in the UK

Just started watching the new season of Ozark.
First two seasons were just brilliant so I'm hoping the third season is worth it..

There are some absolute gems like Ozark, Lupin (season 1), Money Heist, Stranger Things...
The other good thing is that you can log in anywhere in the world and watch Friends :)

Way too dark… and keeps getting darker. I have come to a stage of life where i prefer light watch

Is also the best way to watch Vince Gilligan’s stuff like Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul.

Of course!
Also the utterly brilliant Afterlife

My wife cried through every episode of all three seasons.

What is Afterlife all about and is it worth the hype? it’s a drama right

JaDed I have two episodes of Arcane left. The animation itself is stunning! arguably the best I’ve seen, on the same level as Into The Spiderverse.

The plot doesn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel but it’s engaging and coherent. Overall defo would put it up there with Netflix’s best originals and especially for animation

Comedy / Drama

Written and starring Ricky Gervais
He's absolutely brilliant in it.

Some of the humour is fantastic.

It could be a bit of a marmite moment.
You will either love it or hate it.

It's about a man who loses his wife, who was his soul mate, to cancer and how he gets though life without her.

Very well written

True on the plot but I’m hoping they are able to do much for the other seasons and build on how they ended.

The fantasy aspect of it is amazing and yes defn top notch animation.

Also awesome character developments and their ability to take risks in story line is also worth it.

We haven’t seen the third season yet but we are very much looking forward to it…

Yes some people I know switched it off after the first episode, but I absolutely loved it.

Simple, funny, touching, sad - great series.

Will give it a watch, don’t usually go for such shows but it’s Ricky Gervais and should be a laugh

Just finished watching Safe.

Another one written by Harlan Coben which includes Stay Close, The Stranger, The Innocent amongst others.

Really Enjoyed Safe and The innocent (Spanish), both were excellent.

Kept me engaged throughout the series.

Has anyone watched Ozark, would ya”ll say it compares to Breaking Bad / is of that ilk?

I have archive 81 on my watchlist and afterlife going go check these out

Recently watched Yellowjackets. It's a mix of a psychological/horror thriller on similar lines of Lord of flies... really enjoyed the first season and can't wait for the next. Highly recommend.

Started watching The Sinner season 4.

Really enjoyed the first 3 seasons, let's see how this goes.

Ozark is dark but absolutely gripping, I don’t watch it because it makes me sad(it’s that well
made) , I haven’t seen Breaking Bad but I don’t think it would live upto that comparison.

Ozark is good and deffo worth a watch but not anywhere near Breaking Bad which is arguably the best tv series of its generation

Yeah that’s what i meant Ozark can’t live upto that comparison.. eventhough I haven’t seen it completely I know any series will have a hard time
competing with Breaking bad.

I started watching Ozark a couple of years ago and lost interest in it.

However it sounds like I need to watch it from scratch again.

Yeah mate as others have alluded to it, it ain't no Breaking Bad.
Yes some synergies but characters have different motivations and the mood is different.

I would watch it with an open mind.

Anyone seen the Korean 'All of us are dead' ?

Some reports suggesting its better than Squid game.

Started watching The Sinner season 4.

Really enjoyed the first 3 seasons, let's see how this goes.

I've not enjoyed season 4 as much as the earlier seasons.

It started well but it's just become a bit dull in my opinion.

Watched the last series of Ozark after not bothering and it's phenomenal. And to think it's Michael Bluth gone rogue
