Ok I will admit, I am a bit of an old fashioned guy when it comes to behaviour in public etc but I had the misfortune to watch a few episodes of this show.

The language and the lifestyle depicted in this is shocking and seems to be nothing like what I have come across in my dealings with many people from India.

Is this how people live/behave in Mumbai or is this a gross exaggeration for TV?

It seems I am not alone

The commission took action based on a complaint which alleged that the series normalises minors indulging in casual sex and drug abuse

The apex child rights body NCPCR has asked Netflix to stop streaming 'Bombay Begums' citing inappropriate portrayal of children in the web series.

In a notice to Netflix on Thursday, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked the OTT platform to furnish a detailed action report within 24 hours, failing which it said it will be constrained to initiate appropriate legal action.

Objecting to the alleged inappropriate portrayal of children in the series, the commission said this type of content will not only pollute the young minds but may also result in abuse and exploitation of children.

The commission took action based on a complaint which alleged that the series normalises minors indulging in casual sex and drug abuse.

"Netflix should take extra precaution while streaming any content in respect of the children or for the children and shall also refrain themselves from getting into such things," the commission said in its notice.

"Therefore, you are directed to look into this matter and immediately stop streaming of this series and furnish a detailed action report within 24 hours, failing which the Commission will be constrained to initiate appropriate action pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 of the CPCR (Commission for Protection of Child Rights) Act, 2005," the commission said.

'Bombay Begums' delves into the lives of five women from different sections of society who all want different things in life.

Lol, i can guarantee you that the show perfectly depicits the issues and lifestyle of upper middle class, educated class, high society people in Pakistan.

Feminists out in full force on Twitter. I haven’t seen the programme but it seems like India is being accused of trying to shut down the programme because of its depiction of female empowerment, which conflicts the take on drugs and what not, may have to watch an episode or 2.

Netflix is another entertainment channel which knows what sells in Modern India.
Unfortunately, cheap thrills are getting paraded as the Entertainer's freedom of speech and right to express. The Laws will catchup and control but at a slow pace, meanwhile the channels make use of this time loophole and increase their ratings.

Female empowerment is one thing - this is just plain cheap thrills.

What’s your take on the student proposal and hug at a lahore university that has gone viral?

The students were suspended and there is an uproar over that as well.

We are losing track and sight of our culture it seems

I am starting to wonder if we even know our culture any more

The upper class in India lives such a life. There is also a bit of exaggeration, but it is pretty close to reality.
Gone are the days of Tatas, now everyone wants to live like Kardashians.

It's the same in Pakistan. The lifestyle of upper middle class and educated classes is surprisingly raunchy than people expect. Adultery, drinking, partying and being depressed, down over minor things, self inflicted things are very common in those circles vs others with real world problems.

It will be shut down due to portrayal of minors in inappropriate manner.

It is to do with freedom of information. While internet brings lot of useful and good things to your world, it also brings lot of negative things you can pick up. It is clinically proven that social media apps have detrimental impact on adults and kids behaviour and psychology.
Someone can use internet mostly for learning Mathematics... there are people who watch random youtube videos and learn depravity as well. It is a double edged sword.

There seems to be some concerted effort to portray upper class Indian circles as ‘real housewives of xyz’ type reality shows. There was one called made in heaven as well? (Or maybe I’m mixing up names - but was about bollywood wives)

yes I watched one episode and all of them were clearly parading their snobbishness and exclusivity around. Funny thing is all those ladies are no longer relevant or leading names in the industry anymore. Not sure why they thought it is good content.
