New Zealand [291/8] beat West Indies [286] by 5 runs in the 29th match of the 2019 World Cup

Must be frustrating to be a West Indies fan. No idea why Gayle can't play a mature innings. He could have easily added a few singles (or even dots, he was going so well) into his innings and steered his team home.
 
Typical Windies.

Game was over when Hetmyer got out then Holder next ball. They put too much pressure on Gayle who got confused what to do, he doesn’t accumulate well hence why I reckon he wanted to dispatch This medium bowler for some quick sixes! But it’s over now.

Shame they (WI) are well ahead at this stage.
 
What the hell ? West Indies well ahead of the RR, all you need to do is knock it around but batsmen wanted to finish chase off in 30 overs.
 
Isn't it better for Pak if WI lose? NZ have pretty much guaranteed their place in the top 4, but both us and WI need to win all our games now for any chance of qualifying.

The reason why NZ is a good team is because of Kane Williamson.

He will eclipse Martin Crowe one day.

He is always looking for wickets and is not afraid of getting hit when he has runs on board.

Kohli could learn from him.

He uses WIN game for his T20 audition - doing it for last 10 years. No commitment, no responsibility, he just keeps banging and whatever comes is bonus; was dropped as well today.
 
Windies players are without doubt the thickest players in the world. They even make the likes of Umar Akmal look like Einstein.
 
Pity... Windies were cruising. They seem to be experts at imploding. Did the same vs Aus and now NZ. Should have had the game in the bag.
 
All they had to do is relax and knock the ball around for next 15 overs and match was thers. As pitch has no demons in it
 
NZ needed to lose today for Pak to have any chance . NZ win means they almost certainly qualify even if they lose the next 3 . NZ next 3 games are against tough opponents where they could lose , meaning them ending up on 9 points . Pak winning the next 4 would take them to 11 points . Now our next best hope is for England to lose all or atleast 2 of it's remaining matches . Australia and India are almost in .

Let's forget us dropping Gayle 3 times and still be this far ahead of in the game.. heck we have Munro opening for us.. he averages 20 after 50+ ODIs.

Drops are part of the game. How does that detract from the fact that before Hetmeyer got out with that ugly swipe the Windies were well placed to win?

NZ will be 11 points after today, not 9. They are certainly through (with their runrate) even if they lose all 3
 
WI don't seem like a team who can rotate strike well, hence why they play recklessly at times.
 
West Indies have really given up on ODI cricket. There doesn't seem to be any intent of winning. They lose momentum very quickly & struggle to gain it back. They have issues with their board & looks like most of them simply turned up to fill their necessary obligations.

However, Come T20 World Cup & these guys will transform into marauders, destroying everything in their path.

A chance was always going to come. WI don't have a player in the ilk of a Kane, Kohli, Smith, Warner etc. Who is good enough to score big consistently or can guide the game in the middle.
 
Problem with WI, Pak and SA in recent times has been they just cant overcome the pressure which comes in when there is a chance of their win and they ruin it more often than not.

You don’t have to be a Kohli or a Kane to bat sensibly, you just need a brain inside your head.
 
Look these guys can hit sixes in their sleep.

So all they needed to do in middle overs was accumulate - they can always step up a gear if needed.

I guess Shai Hope is the closest to that description but even he struggles to rotate strike regularly.
 
WI needed someone to along with Hope as a consolidator today (Maybe Darren Bravo) as other than hope all are aggressors who cant particularly grind in. Also the aggressors aren’t consistent enough so they should have had atleast two guys filling the role of consolidators.

Kiwis have good bowling attack and 2 batsmen but if they field this against teams, two drops for Gayle set batsmen b2b , they will lose.
 
If it wasnt for lack of planning against short balls by Pak they could have won against WI and got 2 points. It was really poor stuff.
 
They needed to bat like this in the middle.

Brathswate should be batting at 4.
 
Such a heartless team!! Still their required rate is lower than current rate and need 84 at run a ball. Couple more wickets at hand, most teams would have won this game.

Fielding has been poor.. so many dropped catches and missed run out chances.
