What's new

New Zealand [348 & 9/0] beat India [165 & 191] by 10 wickets in the first Test

I feel, at best, Ind will give NZ about 120 odd to chase in the final inns, which should be a piece of cake on this pitch which is pretty flat except for the spongy bounce which makes trying to ride the bounce when defending or hooking a tad risky.

If a wicket doesn't fall in the first hour, NZ odds for a win should be around ~1.35 --> Easy money!

Match should be done or close to done today. NZ should comfortbly win from here. If 2 quick wickets come then match will be over in 2 sessions.

Hopefully get the innings win.

No excuses from India, they've had the best of the batting conditions.

6 down. Yes BOIII :rosco

Sucks that Taylor is unlikely to get another bat in his 100th Test :(

I actually picked India to win this series 1-0.

With all the hype about their performances the last few years in Aus, I thought they were far better than what they've shown here.

We got absolutely wrecked like minnows a few months ago against Aus.

We may of had the advantage of winning the toss, but the ball was turning and India have had the best batting conditions yet they find themselves 6 down for 150 on a day 3 pitch.

NZ should play Wagner in place of Patel next match. Go all guns blazing. Don't see NZ getting surpassed 200 in any of the inning particularly if pace quartet is on the show and Colin doing the 5th bowler job.

Looks like this may be an innings win and match might finish in the first hr.

Shameful batting by an overrated bunch.

The likes of Kohli, Rahane and Pujara should hang their head in shame. They played like total noobs in not so difficult conditions.

The pitch is not unplayable. If you cannot handle the gentle swing of 123k’s from southee, you have no hope.

Weren't you the one hyping up this Indian team and bowling attack?

Boult is undercooked and Wagner isn't playing yet India have struggled this much.

Expect a lot better from the #1 team in the world.

No shame in losing to New Zealand, they are a pretty strong team. I envy their pace attack.

Pant looking more assured than some of top order Indian batsmen.

:)))

You are on a roll.

Be content to have a win against an unprepared bunch.

Genuinely gutted about that tbh. I wanted him to score some runs in his 100th.

For months I've heard some Indian fans on here back on about Test cricket being the only format that matters and how great their team is. They even went after me when I said Aus were the best team in the world and had the best bowling attack in the world by far.

Getting a massive hiding here. No excuses for second innings collapse. Looks like 1-0 NZ. Congrats and well bowled.

Only Australia can beat this kiwi side in New zealand. All the other teams will get a thrashing.

How are India underprepared?

I'll admit it was a great toss to win, but they've been in NZ for a month - played 5 T20s, 3 ODIs and a warm up game.

Pant and Agarwal even played a number of A games...

doesn't work like that. we suck vs swing. we are better in bouncy wickets.

in n.z toss makes a huge difference. Not surprised at all that n.z beat india. n.z are strong at home. Can beat anyone on their day.

Aus would hammer us here and SA will beat us because they always beat us.

The current SA side cannot beat this kiwi side in NZ. Actually NZ have a good chance of winning in South Africa looking at the current SA lineup.

Soft runs when the game is over.

These runs don't really matter or count as the result looks like a formality.

It was upto the top 6- specialist bats but they disappointed massively. Only Agarwal did fairly well. Rahane is so overrated, such a senior player with so much experience but throws his wickets after getting 30s and 40s.

The current SA team would definitely beat us lol.

Their bowlers always dominate our batsmen so the SA batsmen wont need to score much.

that's why you don't play pointless odi and t20. granted we have a t20 world cup coming up but seriously? 5 t20s and 3 odi's after?
All for money.

n.z did well to win the game but like I said earlier, pandya or even a vijay shankar would have been useful here. You need an extra bowler to give the main bowlers a rest. N.z had that advantage with CDG. Kohli is either incredibly dumb or just stubborn.

With Blundell injured, I'd like to see Taylor open and hit the winning runs.

And thus the memories of the "great test captain dhoni" era are refreshed again. For all the talk of technique, only pant and Agarwal looked confident in this match. Even rahane looked shaky. So was Kohli and always subdued pujara (his Indian style of waiting is good and worked only in Australia once on true and bouncy wickets. On such seaming pitches, you have to score as as every over you may get a wicket taking ball)

the match is probably gonna be over in the first session.
who would have thought?

Now india just have to fight back in the second test. Show some grit. Where was the grit that was displayed vs australia? This friendly ** needs to stop.

well played n.z. Thoroughly deserved win. Smashed india.

SA were lucky to win NZ in 2017, I think rain played a part. Besides that SA was stronger too. Can't see this weak SA lineup doing well in New zealand.

:))) :))) :))) :))) :))) :))) :))) :)))

I can only laugh at these clowns.

No practice.

No preparation.

No plan.

No intensity.

Shameless batting.

Ind played well in Aus but aussies were missing two of their main batsmen including their captain and thus overall morale as well. Something which cant be ignored especially one considers the records of Smith and Warner at home.

wonder who n.z will drop for next test?
definitely not southee after 5 fer. Maybe use all 4 bowlers including Wagner. Leave kyle as number 8. He can bat well. No spinner though?

Australia missed Smith and Warner.

He scored even in first innings.

His runs were golden before others got out.

These aren't soft runs if you look at the context.

Others collapsed to give it an illusion of soft.

It's true, the ball didn't even do that much.

Conditions pretty consistent across the first 2 innings.

I dont know why people are saying they are unprepared. Ind A have been here playing red ball games with batsman from this lineup and they had a warm up game before the series.

NZ quite often tour with no warm up game at all and we havent had any red ball domestic cricket since november for this series.

New Zealand have to bat last on this wicket, India still have a chance.

NZ was brilliant. Not sure there is much Ind can do in terms of selection if the wicket for second match has something in it as well other than maybe better application.

Maybe Gill can be brought in but would be harsh to drop anyone after one match.

We didn't even have a warm up game before the first Test in Aus.

We played a 2 day game after the first Test against a bunch of club cricketers.

Rubbish excuses for this epic bechti from the so called ATG Indian team.

They might but I expect a team to be better prepared.

This is just a complete capitulation. Lol.

They had plenty of prep, way more than any other team maybe outside England would of had. People love to use prep as an excuse, India can't. They play way more and had ODIs, T20s, A games and warm ups. The whole lot for this thumping.

So saying indian team is unprepared is giving excuses?

My goodness... What happened to posters here?

Maybe I stumbled onto an alternate dimension here after my break.

Lol.

It is an excuse.

A really bad one given the time and prep they've had.

You can't say they're underprepared when they've been in the country for a month and had many games to get acclimated.

NZ cricket team has improved a lot in last 6-7 years. Historically against Pak they were only able to win 10 and lost 25 while against India they were only able to win I guess 12 and lost 21 if I read the stats quickly. But, now NZ dominates most teams at home.

Ghanta they had prep.

Kohli didn't bat.
Pujara, vihari, etc had one innings.
Ishant came from injury and luckily bowled well.
Bumrah was fast tracked before getting alright.

Only guys with prep were Mayank, Gill Shaw. Out of them, Gill didn't play. Shaw and Mayank looked decent but they are still newbies here.

Do you even realize what preparation means? "

Or you consider playing a solitary innings in a warm up as preparation?

India are massive underachievers in Cricket.
Should really dominate the sport.
Still can't play swing.

These Ranji averages are also such a poor reflection.
So many averaging above 50. Not a true reflection of batting ability at all.

Bumrah bowling at 124 kph in his first over of 4th innings

Yep playing t20s and ODIs are great preparation.

Enlightening.

Shami bumrah look tired as they were over bowled in limited overs. Indian batters played silly shots

There was two innings in the warm up lol. Still vastly more prep than a NZ side typically gets before a tour.

Fine you didn't.
then what?

Bumrah bowling at 124 kph in his first over of 4th innings

Haha.

But but but everything is fine with india.

Dont give excuses.

Looks like some posters just want others to accept we are garbage (which we are in certain aspects) and end it there.

Lol.

Do you know what underprepared means?

You live in your world with other delusional purists thinking 2-3 warm up games are practicial or possible.

Kohli had 8 innings in this country to get use to conditions. Several of the ODI games the ball was moving around and he struggled there too.

This is just a poor excuse for this hammering.

kohli in the post-match presentation will say -
after first match- won't mind losing to NZ and sharing the series.
After second match (after India lost again) - as I mentioned a few days back, I don't mind sharing #1 test ranking with NZ.

Goes to IPL - can he say the same thing there?
"Don't mind losing all matches and our bowlers getting xxxxx as we got habituated for the last 11 years in IPL."

You don't need 2 or 3 warm up games. But you need to spend some time getting into test mode with either a camp or practice sessions in this country

Delusion or not... Basics of test cricket cricket don't change.

And who said there aren't other reasons for failure... As in some players not being good enough right now.

Most teams today get 1 or no warm up games.

That's how tours are scheduled.

Indian fans complaining about being underprepared is laughable given how little every other country gets.

Along with Shami and bumrah, u can sense kohli is also overwhelmed with his workload.

Indian team has played too many limited over games.
5 t20s before test series is not ideal

We get some random team as well with no quality or experience lol..

Imagine if they had tours with the warm up games we get.

Lol.

India is a top test team and nobody can deny that as they have reached the top rank by being better than others overall. I guess it was expected that SENA tours wont be easy, expectations were high as this Indian team has been their best test team since a long time.

Such an overrated side. Have one good batsman who struggles most of the time when there is something in the wicket. Rest of the side is full of nobodies really. They compare themselves to the WINDIES of the 80’s or Aus of the 2000’s 🤣
