What's new

New Zealand (362/6) defeat South Africa (312/9) comfortably by 50 runs to advance to final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Everyone knew this match will decide the game. Santner vs SA. He bowled so slow that RVD completed his shot when the ball struck the stumps

Santner is an unreal ODI spinner bro.

This is not fair

Flat pitch? What flat pitch, no excuses from the champion bowler

Sure I agree but this pitch will stay true like this until 50th. Often comparison doesnt take into account deterioration.

Pressure can swing both ways, If NZ dont take wickets it will transfer to them esp with beautiful shots like this! 4 more
Yes but unless you get off to a flying start you are always behind the 8 ball even if you play a few dot balls. And South Africa have already played too many dot balls. This also doesn't take into account the fact that NZ smashed 100+ in the last 10. Batting first, with wickets in hand you have the freedom to do that. When chasing with wickets down it becomes really tough even on a flat wicket.

What will be he do against india at the Dubai. We can't win against NZ

:kp
For India, he will be public enemy no.1. Played a starring role in NZ's series win in India. And I don't think he bowled well enough in the last game. With more awareness about the pitch now, I expect a much improved performance from him if NZ make the final.

Kohli would be praying for SA win #Santher... looks unlikely

What a bowler he is

Best in the world

You need left handers to deal with Santner. You know who has done well against Santner. This will make pak fans happy

Fakhar zaman vs Snanter

ODIs

78 balls 87 runs 78.00 average 4 fours 6 sixes

T20s

34 balls 56 runs 56.00 average 1 four 5 sixes

We have beaten them in 6 ODIs straight

NZ won a test series in India with a number of the same players, where they beat India at their own game: spin. I think they are best positioned to beat India eventhough India are favorites going into the final.

Test performance has nothing to do with ODI cricket. #justSaying :kp

So now we know how tough new zealand bowling is bro these guys are hard to get away santner in my opinion is the best spinner in the world right now just won his team a semi final single handedly.
Definitely one of the best going around in white-ball. Very smart and canny operator.

Santner's biggest weapon is that pause. He doesn't release that. Saeed Ajmal used to do that. Ashwin briefly used to pause the ball. But Santner has perfected that pause. You can't even notice he is pausing it.

That's a different format and played with the red SG ball and very spin friendly pitches
.
But yes, after this there's no doubt that NZ are the team best placed to beat India regardless of conditions

Getting ahead is preferable, I agree.
it doesnt matter much now, 4 down with nearly 10 runs per over required, it will take a huge effort from here on from the Saffers.

Do you think they should go hard now, one of them at least or stick in there? I guess they dont have time to stick around and eat up balls. This could be over before the 50th now.

This is why you shouldn't be starting slow. You should also consider who are going to bowl in the middle overs. THey could have milked runs against Santner if they had started aggressively. They played timidly against trundler Jamison. Now they are forced to attack Santa and get out.

It's not about test performance. It's about beating India with spin, which is exactly what NZ did in that series. And spin will play a massive role in that final too.
India has already beaten NZ on a same Dubai pitch few days ago and you're talking about what was happened 4-5 months ago. Current performance and confidence matters most rather than what was happened in few months ago.

It's not just that though. Someone like Matt Henry for instance has a very good record against India. NZ also has some good players of spin like Rachin, Latham, Williamson, Mitchell.

182 of 114 you've got to go hard. And if they don't start hitting boundaries now they won't even give yourself a chance to take the game deep.

Think you're getting very unnecessarily defensive. I didn't say NZ will win. I said they are best positioned among all the teams in the tournament to beat India. India are still favorites going into the final.

Nothing I said about NZ's recent success against India is untrue.

Bavuma as a captain as well sucks. SA had an opportunity to restrict them to 320. He let it slip with weird field placement, strategies in the back end.
