New Zealand smash Champions Trophy record in semi-final encounter against South Africa

New Zealand’s 362/6 broke the record for the highest-ever total in ICC Men’s Champions Trophy in Lahore.

Incidentally, the previous record for the highest total in tournament history had been set at the same venue during a group stage encounter between Australia and England on 22nd February.

This was also the third-highest score in an ICC tournament event knockout fixture.

England had been powered to 351/8 by Ben Duckett’s exceptional 165 before Australia (356/5) chased it down after Josh Inglis (120*) hit a stunning hundred.

New Zealand’s record total of 362 was powered by sensational hundreds from Rachin Ravindra (108), and Kane Williamson (102). New Zealand were further boosted in the death by handy knocks from Glenn Phillips (49*) and Daryl Mitchell (49).

This was Ravindra’s fifth ODI ton, all of his centuries so far have come in the ICC Men’s ODI tournaments.

While the chase is a tough ask for South Africa, they have history on their side, having previously chased targets in excess of 362 twice. These successful chases came in 2016 (when they chased down a target of 435, against Australia) and 2016 (372 against Australia).

No other side has successfully chased a target of over 361 in ODI history.

Lol that is why they went for 360 runs.

NZ for a country of 5mill people, cricket probably is their 3rd or 4th most popular sport. Are doing good in this sport always reach semis of icc events, two back to back odi finals. Well decent cricketing infrastructure, having the right setups, professionally run.

This is how chase the big score. They needs 150+ runs partnership then anything can happen . Wickets in the hand is key for big chase

Esp when you have big hitters like Klass and Miller to come. Leave them 150 even with 12 overs and you have a chance here.

Very impressive. Whereas certain other countries despite playing ODI cricket for nearly 30 years and with 170+ million are being outplayed by the Taliban :inti

They have more cricketing intelligence? It is like that 300 movie where 300 people tried to beat 300,000 army purely through strategy. Ofcourse you need skill to go with.

New Zealand should destroy india in the final. Hopefully they will be able to do this time.
Defeating evil is necessary.
