New Zealand and Pakistan have moved in opposite directions in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings following the conclusion of their three-Test series in the United Arab Emirates, which the visitors won by 2-1.

New Zealand had started the series on 102 points, ahead of Australia by a fraction of a point, and have now moved to 105 points to consolidate their fourth position. New Zealand now trail third-ranked South Africa by one point.

In contrast, Pakistan had entered in sixth place on 95 points, and have now dropped to seventh position on 92 points, one behind Sri Lanka.

The MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings will next be updated at the conclusion of the two-Test series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

If New Zealand win 2-0, they will move to 109 points in second position and Sri Lanka will drop to seventh position on 90 points.

However, if the series result is reversed and Sri Lanka win 2-0, then they will rise to 97 points while retaining sixth place and New Zealand will fall behind Australia in fifth position on 99 points.

Wellington is the venue of the first Test from 15-19 December, while the second and final Test will be played in Christchurch from 26-30 December.

Well done NZ. I think they will go to 2nd position after series with SRL.

The gap between 7 and 8 in the table is big. Pakistan has 92 while WI has 70 and BD has 69. So I think Pakistan won't slide further

I still think the rankings are not accurate enough. PAK are definitely better than Lanka no matter what the rankings say. Number 6 is the correct ranking of this team.

Pakistan are better than what the Ranking suggests because they drew in England which no other team could do

This is what you get, for not selecting a 2nd genuine spinner!

Been saying it for ages, but these guys are clueless and I have no idea, how they are so blind at not seeing the need for a specialist spinner.

All I see is the 'weakest number 1 team of all time' on that list.

The rankings are very accurate at the moment, however, I do not think the gap between us and West Indies/Bangladesh is as big as the points suggest.

I back Bangladesh to beat us if they bat first in either Bangladesh or the UAE, and WI have beaten us twice in a space of few months with Younis and Misbah.

It was Mamoon who first said that this is Pak's place while others dreamt of the fourth place before the game against Aus started and now everyone suddenly realizes that this team has a long way to go.

We are likely to move up and down one position because of Sri Lanka, but the gulf between us and the top five teams is very big. I fully expect England to beat us in the next series as well.

Our days of being their bogey team is coming to an end. In fact, we were lucky to play only two Tests against them last summer.

As once Bilal said, “there’s no difference between top 6 ranked sides”. He will have to include the 7th now.

Agreed, Lanka is nothing without Herath. I don't think Lanka can even beat Bangladesh anymore.

That is where we belong. We are no better then seven at Test Cricket. The usual will happen with every ex cricketer giving us a lecture but nothing will change.

Sri Lanka's test future looks very bleak indeed. It's not the bowling im worried about though. It's the batting. It's karunaratne or bust currently . Mathews looks finished and the rest are not nearly good enough.
