New Zealand to tour Pakistan twice in 2022-23

Lahore, 20 December 2021:

New Zealand Cricket has confirmed it will tour Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs in December/January 2022-23 as part of the Future Tours Programme and will return in April 2023 for 10 white-ball matches to make-up for the September 2021 abandoned tour, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced today.

The arrangement was finalised following meetings and discussions between the PCB and NZC Chairpersons Mr Ramiz Raja and Mr Martin Snedden, respectively.

The two Tests and three ODIs will be part of the ICC World Test Championship and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, respectively, while the second visit will include two additional ODIs and will now comprise five ODIs and five T20Is that will count towards the ICC Rankings.

With details of the tours and matches now confirmed, the two boards will continue to work together to finalise the series dates, which will be announced in due course.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “I am pleased with the outcomes of our discussions and negotiations, and thank Martin Snedden and his board for their understanding and support. This reflects the strong, cordial and historic relations the two boards have and reconfirms Pakistan’s status as an important member of the cricket fraternity.”

NZC Chief Executive David White: “Our respective chairmen, Ramiz Raja and Martin Snedden, had very fruitful and constructive discussions while in Dubai, further strengthening the bond between the two organisations.

“It’s good to be going back.”

The latest announcement means Pakistan will host eight Tests, 11 ODIs and 13 T20Is against Australia, England and New Zealand in the period from March 2022 to April 2023.

A better two tours could have been:
- 3 tests and 3 odi for the first tour
- 3 ODI'S and 3 t 20's for the second.

Pakistan has to play many many more test matches.

The second leg is in April. Which can only mean that NZ will again send a B team as their first choice players enjoy the riches of the IPL. Sad for Pakistan fans.

PCB clearly has no say because it is so desperate to have a “white” team play on its soil, a desperate, embarrassing but ultimately self-inflicted situation.

With the amount of noise Pakistan was making after New Zealand humiliated them few months back, you would think that all that chest-thumping would lead to PCB standing it’s ground and boycotting bilateral ties with NZC.

New Zealand touring again do not compensate for the financial and emotional damage caused to Pakistan cricket. They can do as many tours as they want now but that damage is done. Not only did they make Pakistan look bad, they also cost them the England series.

As I have said over and over again, Pakistan is just a paper tiger. We are like those soda water bottles the you get on roadside stalls. We make a huge pop but then there is nothing inside the bottle.

NZC is yet another board that has leverage on Pakistan. They can walk off at any moment but the door will never be shut on them.

They can cancel these two tours in the lar minute and we will still welcome them the next year if they decide that they would like to tour.

Its a commercial decision-The attendance for a test in PK over the 5 days won't be any more than 20,000. Each T20 and ODI will sell out.

I wouldn’t have “shown eyes” to New Zealand in the first place and thumped my chest like a silverback gorilla if I wasn’t capable of doing anything about it.

Pakistan should have recognized its auqaat and laid low.

The reality is that any of the “white” teams can refuse to tour Pakistan or back out at the last minute and they will not face any consequences because the next time they are in a good mood, we will be like “yes sir”.
