The home of cricket in Mirpur once again returned to its usual business. The cricketers started the optional individual training session ahead of the upcoming home series against New Zealand set to begin next month.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das who missed out on the historic five-match T20I series against Australia at home are gearing up for the return and spent time at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium alongside Soumya Sarkar and Shamim Hossain yesterday.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has successfully hosted three international series since the pandemic started last year and the board is all set to host the fourth international series with the Kiwis scheduled to arrive in the country on August 24.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Cricket [NZC] has requested the BCB to provide Covid-19 safety protocol similar to what was in place for the Australian cricket team's visit earlier this month.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed the board is making an effort to create a similar environment for the New Zealand cricket team.

"They have been requesting us to provide the same bio-bubble protocol that was in place for Australia. We will also try to create a similar environment. Like I have said before, the bio-bubble was not to keep only Australia or now New Zealand team safe but our team too. Considering all the facts and practicality we will try to create a complete bio-bubble environment and complete this series too successfully," Nizamuddin told media at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

There will, however, be a change in protocol at the airport in Dhaka this time around where Australia had reached Bangladesh on a chartered flight but New Zealand will be travelling on a commercial carrier.

"New Zealand will be travelling to Dhaka on a commercial flight. So the protocol at the airport will not be the same as it was for Australia. Australia had travelled to Dhaka on a chartered flight. But we will make effort to minimise public contact with the New Zealand team at the airport and transfer them quickly to the hotel. We are planning on it," he added.

As part of the safety protocols, the tourists have discouraged playing the scheduled warm-up game ahead of the series which was set to take place in BKSP on August 29. All the matches of the five-match series will be played at the SBNS behind closed doors starting from September 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 respectively.

"When we travel to another country, we look for facilities and practice match to get the team with the foreign condition. Based on this we had offered New Zealand for a practice match [at BKSP]. But this will require an additional bio-bubble at the venue. So they are discouraging this and are pressing for limited movement in Dhaka and successfully complete the series," said Nizamuddin.

According to the BCB CEO considering the viewership and the local time of New Zealand in mind the board is planning to start the matches at 4 pm local time.

New Zealand Cricket expects its Black Caps to depart for Bangladesh as planned next week, but whether they continue to Pakistan is uncertain as some players express concern over security after the Taliban’s takeover of neighbouring Afghanistan.

A second-string 15-man New Zealand squad, under captain Tom Latham and stand-in coach Glenn Pocknall, are scheduled to leave Auckland on Monday night for five Twenty20 internationals starting in Dhaka on September 1.

NZC’s public affairs manager Richard Boock said the shift to Covid-19 alert level 4 in Auckland on Wednesday wasn’t expected to affect their travel plans, for the team’s first tour since their World Test Championship final victory over India in June.

“We still have some matters to work through but we’re confident we’ll be able to arrange for the players to depart as scheduled,” Boock told Stuff.

“Regarding Covid-19, our players will be vaccinated and adhering to best-practice health protocols, including mask-wearing, social distancing and operating within bio-secure bubbles. Once in Bangladesh, they will be flying into, and out of Pakistan on charter flights.”

This is an extremely weak New Zealand team.

Bangladesh should win 4-1 or 5-0.
I think NZ team would have studied the Aus/Bang series like their life depends on it.

I am 100% sure this is going to be a tough series. Could go 3-2 either way.

The tweet should have been -"Hello Bangladesh, we touched down in Dhaka to get whitewashed" :P

Dont see NZ winning a single game on this tour. BD is a very strong team at home.

What a start ....

BLACKCAPS batsman Finn Allen has tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival in Bangladesh.

Allen, who represented the Birmingham Phoenix in England’s new Hundred competition, is fully-vaccinated and passed all his pre-departure tests in England - before testing positive 48 hours after arrival in Dhaka.

He has been quarantined at the team’s hotel and immediate advice is that he is experiencing moderate symptoms.

Allen is receiving treatment from the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief medical officer; has been in contact with NZC’s chief medical officer, and will be monitored during his stay in quarantine by BLACKCAPS doctor Pat McHugh.

Once he has undergone treatment and the statutory period of isolation, and has tested negative for COVID-19 on consecutive days, he will be cleared to re-join his team-mates.

BLACKCAPS manager Mike Sandle said from Dhaka he was in constant contact with Allen and was confident the Wellington Firebirds right-hander was receiving the best of care from the Bangladesh authorities.

“It’s really unfortunate for Finn,” said Mr Sandle. “He’s comfortable at the moment and hopefully he’ll recover quickly; test negative and be cleared and approved for discharge as soon as possible.

Mr Sandle said Allen flew from Heathrow on an Emirates flight and that team officials had notified the airline of his circumstances, as well as being in contact with his family in New Zealand.

“The Bangladesh cricket authorities have been extremely professional in their response and we’re grateful to them for that,” he said.

“They’re treating the matter very seriously.”

Mr Sandle said the New Zealand-based members of the BLACKCAPS, who departed Auckland on Monday night, had just arrived in Dhaka and would now undergo a minimum three-day period of in-room isolation.

A decision on whether Allen will be replaced in the squad has not yet been made.

The BLACKCAPS will play five T20s against Bangladesh – the first on Wednesday, September 1.

New Zealand are expecting slow turning wickets in their T20 series in Bangladesh, similar to those employed by the hosts in their recent victory over Australia, Kiwi fast bowler Hamish Bennett said on Wednesday.

Bangladesh beat the Australians 4-1 in early August when the visiting batsmen struggled on the low, slow pitches.

The Tigers will host the understrength Blackcaps, in another five-match series in early September as part of the team's build-up to the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in October-November.

"It was fun games (against the Australians). I assume it will be the same. We are thankful for that Australia series to know how Bangladesh will approach us," said Bennett.

"But it is one thing knowing how they will approach us, and another thing playing in those conditions.

"We have four or five days of training to find out if our game plans will suit these types of wickets."

New Zealand won just one Twenty20 match in their previous two visits in Bangladesh as they struggled to handle the local spinners.

In spite of their recent record, the Kiwis named a second-string side for Bangladesh tour with no member of the country’s Twenty20 World Cup-bound squad making the trip.

Tom Latham captains the side in the absence of Kane Williamson.

Bennett said he would not be surprised if Bangladesh offered them a turning pitch to assist the home spinners.

"I think whenever Bangladesh comes to New Zealand, we produce bouncy and pacy ones that they find uncomfortable, and when we come over here, they will produce those that turn and ones we find uncomfortable. I think it’s great," he said.

New Zealand and Bangladesh will play their games behind closed doors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on September 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10.

Pace bowler Matt Henry has been called into the BLACKCAPS squad in Bangladesh as a replacement for batsman Finn Allen – who is in quarantine, recovering from Covid-19.

Allen will remain with the team and continue to be monitored by BLACKCAPS doctor Pat McHugh.

Henry was initially selected solely for the Pakistan leg of the winter programme but will now depart New Zealand on Monday August 30 to link up with the BLACKCAPS in Dhaka.

Several factors played a part in the decision to send Henry, not least vaccinations and isolation periods on arrival in Dhaka, the availability of MIQ beds upon return to New Zealand, and workload considerations for other candidates.

BLACKCAPS Head Coach Gary Stead said from Christchurch that Henry was the best man for the job.

“Matt’s clearly not a like-for-like replacement for Finn, but he expands our selection options and, in the current circumstances, is the best equipped to join the side at such short notice,” said Stead

“He’s received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccination and already has an MIQ bed allocated for his return.”

Stead said he didn’t consider players currently in the UK due to the seven-day isolation period they would face on arrival into Dhaka.

“And, in the current environment, we remain mindful of the need to carefully balance player workloads,” he said.

“We’re not prepared to risk anyone’s well-being by asking them to commit to extremely long periods away from home.”

The BLACKCAPS will play five T20s against Bangladesh – the first on Wednesday, September 1.

NZ will loose by 4-1. Most of their players are too raw for international teams

Bangladesh will be looking at the five-match series against New Zealand, starting in Mirpur on Wednesday, 1 September, as dress rehearsal for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

Overview

Bangladesh vs New Zealand, first T20I
Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur
September 1, 4 PM local

Bangladesh have been in great T20I form lately, first winning 2-1 away from home against Zimbabwe and then routing Australia 4-1 at home. With just five T20I matches to go before they fly to Oman for Round 1 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, Bangladesh have one last opportunity to fine-tune their plans.

The return of Mushfiqur Rahim, who missed the series against Australia, will be a massive boost for Bangladesh and should fix the middle-order issues that plagued the side in the previous series.

The Black Caps have a massive challenge ahead of them on docile tracks in Bangladesh. Keeping player welfare in mind, the Blackcaps have named an inexperienced squad with Tom Latham standing in as captain.

New Zealand have already named their squad for the T20 World Cup, and none of the players from the Bangladesh tour will be a part of the global tournament. Despite that, players will be keen to make a mark, with a men's T20 World Cup also set to be played next year in Australia.

Remember the last time

New Zealand emerged 3-0 victors when Bangladesh toured them for a three-match series in March-April earlier this year.

In the first game, New Zealand posted a mammoth total of 210/3 on the back of half-centuries from Devon Conway (92*) and Will Young (53). Ish Sodhi's four-for broke the back of the Bangladesh batting line-up in their chase as they fell short by 66 runs.

Glenn Phillips was the star for the Blackcaps in the rain-curtailed second game with a Player of the Match-winning 31-ball 58* that set the visitors a target of 171 in 16 overs. Though Bangladesh gave more of a fight this time, they still lost by 28 runs on the DLS method.

The final game too was a truncated affair, with the match reduced to a 10-over-a-side encounter. Batting first yet again, a blitzkrieg from openers Martin Guptill (44 of 19 balls) and Finn Allen (71 off 29 balls) propelled the Kiwis to 141/4 in 10 overs. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 76 in their response as the Black Caps completed a whitewash.

What they said

Tom Latham (stand-in New Zealand captain): "It is pretty easy to motivate yourself when playing for the country. I personally haven't had a lot of opportunities in T20s, so it is exciting. Even for the other guys. Most of the guys have played T20s for New Zealand but probably not as much as they would like to. We have to enjoy ourselves out there and stick to a brand of cricket that we believe can be successful in these conditions. Our goal is to win the series."

Russell Domingo (Bangladesh coach): "Winning the series is important. We are playing at home, so we want to continue gaining confidence before the World Cup. In terms of areas of improvement, batting conditions have been really difficult. It would be great if we got some bigger scores, but that depends on what conditions allow you to do. I think bowling confidence and getting into a winning habit is also very important, so we must make sure we continue to do that."

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to bat

Bangladesh (Playing XI): Mohammad Naim, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah(c), Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan(w), Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed

What on earth are these pitches?

Get it for Tests but a damn T20?

lmao that one didn't even bounce.

I hope the ICC reprimands Bangladesh for these pitches.

These pitches wouldn't be good enough for club cricket.

Bangladesh can take this series with these mickey mouse pitches.

The phantia they get in the WT20 will be even sweeter.

NZ 9/4 (4) CRR: 2.25
New Zealand opt to bat

Bad ->worse

ROFL. What's going on?

NZ - 10/4 after 5 overs.
Doctored pitch for T20s lol.

Unpredictable bounce, super slow and is messing with the batsmen's shot selection.

It's a T20 where they have to get a go on but they can't do it on this pitch. You have to grind 80-90 runs here.

I hope ICC step in here, absolute joke of a pitch.

I agree. Not an ideal pitch for T20. But, I doubt ICC will do much.

These are low-key T20 tournaments.

Nothing about this is entertaining. It's an extreme for a god damn T20.

If it helps home side to win, I don't mind. LOL.

At the end of the day, it is all about winning.

Whatever works (as long as it is legal).

Meh, they're wasting their time. Pitches aren't going to be like this in the UAE and they're probably going to get hammered by everyone.

Why haven't NZ selected Grandhomme for the World T20 ? When he is among the biggest hitters in NZ.

Is this how T20s are supposed to be ? Even Odi pitches are not so bowler friendly these days. Bangladesh have prepared some awful tracks in the recent T20 series'.

Nz's batting is exposed badly. Most of their batsmen are flat track bully when ground is too small and no spin.

Wow

Bangladesh really preparing landmine fields for SENA teams lol

Don't think we will do any better in this pitch against Bangladesh. Our batsmen are as bad s SENA batsmen against spin.

Bangladesh have never won a T20I game against New Zealand before. Good chance today.

NZ should have the resources in this team to defend whatever they post, even if it is 60 lol

But if they manage to pull it off, then the ICC must intervene with BCB pitch curators. Some of these wickets in the past do not seem to be international standard wickets

Bangladesh are really setting themselves up for a huge embarrassment at the T20 World Cup. These are some terrible wickets and they will receive a massive rude awakening when the face the full sides of any international team they have apparently decimated on their home dust bowls

I don't think these are 60 pitches. NZ batted poorly too.

110-120 is par here. Even Australia crossed 100 here.

On the contrary

NZ deserve this humiliation

Tickner, Duffy and God knows what jobbers they have sent on tour!

Front line NZ bowling lineup can defend 80 in this pitch. India with Ashwin, Jadeja Axar patel would probably defend 70. just a very very difficult wicket to bat with uneven bouch and uneven pace off the wicket.

The point is, this isn’t club cricket. These pitches cannot be used in international cricket.

Looking shaky but not to worry.. NZ dont have enough runs on the board

NZ trying out all the spin options here. Seems they should have packed 5 spinners.

BDESH: 39/3
CRR: 3.54 & RRR: 2.44
Need 22 runs from 54b

18 off 48b.
The team's coach driver had barely got the engine cooled down and now has to start up again.

I get it for Tests, but T20s is all about entertainment.

Nothing about this is entertaining. It's an extreme for a god damn T20.

It’s entertaining for those who support Bangladesh cricket.

I watch test cricket for entertainment purposes, I’m not entertained when I watch NZ bowl out an opposition for less than 100 in test cricket on a green top.

That basically never happens, but go on and continue to show your ignorance.
