New Zealand tour of Bangladesh (2021)

Six from Latham. Kiwis needed that.

New Zealand - 85/3 after 14 overs (target: 142).

NZ have at least given themselves a shot here. Much better effort.

Seems like any seam bowler is getting the treatment on this wicket.

De Grandhomme is such a frustrating cricketer.

So much natural talent and very little thought or application.

De Grandhomme is such a frustrating cricketer.

So much natural talent and very little thought or application.

His brain function like Afridi. If Afridi used his brain he could achieve more than Jayashuria in ODI......

New Zealand - 88/4 after 15 overs (target: 142).

Kiwis need 54 runs from the final 5 overs.

I dont understand henry nicholls in that batting role. Hes not a power hitter. De Granhomme should be down the order.

Good knock by Latham. Needed Will Young to stick around with him a few more overs and we may have won this.

New Zealand - 114/5 after 18 overs (target: 142).

New Zealand need 28 runs from the final 2 overs. It should be difficult.

This Tom Latham is a real fighter and should play in NZ T20 team ahead of Munro/Guptil.

BAN 141/6 (20)

NZ 137/5 (20)

Bangladesh won by 4 runs

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Mahmudullah

Tom Latham's hard-fought 65* went in vain as Bangladesh held their nerve in a last-over thriller to secure a four-run win in the second T20I, going 2-0 up in the five-match series.

Chasing 142, the Blackcaps got off to another shaky start, losing their openers within four overs. The early introduction of Shakib Al Hasan in the attack helped Bangladesh secure the wicket of Rachin Ravindra, who was bowled for 10. Tom Blundell followed suit, stumped off Mahedi Hasan in the next over for 6.

Unlike the first T20I in which the visitors folded for 60, this time skipper Tom Latham along with Will Young stabilised the innings. The duo put a 43-run partnership that pushed New Zealand past 60. It was eventually broken by Shakib as Young edged one to Saifuddin at short third man at the end of the 11th over.

Latham, though, led by example. Along with the next man in, Colin de Grandhomme (8), he helped add another 24 runs for the fourth wicket. He brought up a fine half-century but received little support from the other end. The Bangladesh bowlers bowled well at death bringing the equation to 20 off the final six balls.

Mustafizur gave no boundaries in the first four balls as New Zealand squeezed seven runs. Drama ensued when Latham struck a four off the next ball, a beamer that was given a no-ball by the umpire. In the end, Mustafizur did well to give only three runs off the next two balls, securing a four-run victory for his team.

Earlier, the decision to bat in the second T20I by Bangladesh was validated after a steady start. Their openers Liton Das and Mohammad Naim saw off the Powerplay with ease, batting cautiously for most part but taking full advantage of the loose deliveries to capitalise. They brought up their half-century stand in the ninth over and looked good to add more.

However, New Zealand had other plans. Ravindra's second over shifted the momentum. After being hit for a six on the first ball, Ravindra bowled shortish ball that turned away as Liton looked to work it around leg. He ended up getting an inside-edge onto his stumps. One followed two as Mushfiqur Rahim was stumped on the very next delivery after the turn beat him when he attempted to push forward.

Shakib's stay at the crease did not last for long either as Cole McConchie removed him in the next over with debutant Ben Sears taking a good catch running in from long-off.

Meanwhile, Naim partnered with Mahmud Ullah to keep the scorecard ticking. Naim welcomed Spears with consecutive boundaries in the 12th over, taking Bangladesh past 80. The partnership lasted until Ravindra picked up his third wicket getting the opener out for 39 in the 16th over.

Mahmudullah (37*), however, stuck to the plan and milked easy runs off the final overs to help Bangladesh to a competitive score of 141/6.

These commentators absolutely love Mustafizur.

Hes a great bowler but keep it in your pants fellas.

That's one thing I don't like about Bangladeshi commentators esp Athar Ali Khan. Blatant bias on mic sometimes can reach anti opposition levels.

Bangladesh eye series win in third T20I against New Zealand

Bangladesh are on the verge of completing consecutive T20I series wins at home but New Zealand will hope they can make a strong comeback in the third match on Sunday, 5 September.

Bangladesh have managed to turn their home into a fortress of sorts lately, winning 11 out of 13 T20Is since 2019. After beating Australia 4-1 last month, they are now closing in on yet another series win at home.

Bangladesh will hope to wrap up the series in the third T20I so they can experiment in the remaining two games ahead of the Round 1 of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

New Zealand, meanwhile, will be hoping that they can continue to improve their performances in difficult conditions. After being bowled out for 60 in the first T20I, the inexperienced Blackcaps showed tremendous grit in the second match by taking the game to the last ball.

While the spinners have already adapted to the conditions in Bangladesh, Tom Latham will want his batters to put their hands up in the remaining games, starting with the third T20I on Sunday.

Remember the last time

New Zealand put up a much better fight than they did in the first T20I but still fell short by 4 runs in a thrilling contest.

After choosing to bat first, Bangladesh put up 141/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to vital contributions from Mohammad Naim (39), Liton Das (33) and Mahmud Ullah (37*). Rachin Ravindra was the pick of the bowlers for the Blackcaps with figures of 3/22.

In their chase, New Zealand were in a spot of bother as they lost their openers within the first four overs. Captain Latham led the Kiwi fightback with an unbeaten half-century but didn't find much support at the other end.

It finally boiled down to New Zealand needing 20 off the last over and six off the last ball, but the experienced Mustafizur Rahman held his nerve to give away just a single as Bangladesh went 2-0 up in the series.

What they said

Mahmud Ullah (Bangladesh captain): "In T20s, you get these sort of close games. Happy to get the win, that's what matters. We believe that we are a good team in this format. We are happy to continue this streak (eight wins in 2021)."

Tom Latham (New Zealand captain): "It was a great game. For us to learn from the first game, I thought we did that. We weren't quite as good with the ball today but we bowled quite well at the top. A better surface makes for a better game and that was the case. The guys coming in did a really good job. I am really proud of the guys the way turned things around."

recovery of some sort by the NZ after Allens departure

It is the same pitch that was in 1st T20I so interesting to see how this match develops

This Ravindra is such a hack. Just because he is from Indian decent doesn't mean he can play spin.

It is the same pitch as 1st T20 and same batting collpase

From 45-1 to being 62-5, all in space of 17 runs

New Zealand sets a target of 129 for Bangladesh.

New Zealand - 128/5 after 20 overs.

Bangladesh need 129 to win.

Kiwis have something to defend.

At last a competitive game.

Bangladesh should chase this though. Just need one half decent partnership.

Guess BD will also make a heavy weather out of this
