What's new

New Zealand tour of Bangladesh (2021)

Bangladesh - 42/4 after 9 overs (target: 129).

Bangladesh need 87 runs from 66 balls. Getting tough.

Bangladeshi batsmen batted very irresponsibly today. Shakib went for a big shot in only 2nd ball.

Sloppy batting.

Crazy to think this is a cobbled together bowling attack with a red ball spinner and two part time spinners and they have bowled so well.

I think harsh to call Ravindra and McConchie part timers. More like batting all rounders.

NZ 128/5 (20)
BAN 76 (19.4) CRR: 3.86
New Zealand won by 52 runs

Absolutely destroyed Bangladesh today

Hopefully now people will call it a pathetic pitch. At first people were saying that NZ and Aus were using it as an excuse for their inability to play spin but now it’s proven that these pitches are cancerous to T20 cricket

Shameful for BD cricket. Real shame. Lost to these inexperienced groups

Brilliant spin bowling from Ajaz Patel (4/16) and Cole McConchie (3/15) helped New Zealand register a thumping 52-run win over Bangladesh in the third T20I in Mirpur. The series now stands at 2-1 in favour of the hosts with two matches left to go.

Chasing 129, Bangladesh were given a taste of their own medicine as New Zealand bowlers exerted their dominance. Although the hosts got off to rollicking start with Liton Das smashing five fours in 2.3 overs, their innings quickly unraveled.

Cole McConchie removed Liton, pinging him in front of middle and off. Before Bangladesh could recover, Ajaz Patel struck in the next over with two big wickets. First to depart was Mahedi Hasan, who looked to flick but ended up edging it to Henry Nicholls at mid-wicket. He was followed by Shakib, who went for a duck. Rachin Ravindra got in on the act two overs later with the wicket of Mohammad Naim – dragging a thick inside edge off his bat onto his stumps.

The hosts were pushed back further with another Patel double-wicket over. Removing Mahmudullah (3) and Afif Hossain (0) in back-to-back deliveries, Patel reduced Bangladesh to 44/6 in 10 overs, requiring 85 more to win. Although Mushfiqur Rahim dropped anchor at one end and looked to revive the Bangladesh innings, they suffered further. McConchie picked up two more wickets in back-to-back overs, removing Nurul Hasan (8) and Saifuddin (8).

In the end, Bangladesh were bowled out for 76 in the 20th over giving New Zealand a big 52-run victory.

Earlier, after being asked to bat first, New Zealand did well to reach a respectable total, considering their poor performance in the first two matches of the series. Burying their ghosts of 60-all out from the first game, they posted a competitive 128/5.

Their start was positive with Will Young hitting two fours off Mahedi Hasan in the first over. However, Mustafizur Rahman was brought into the attack in the third over and promptly dismissed Young's partner Finn Allen for 15, who failed to read a slow off-cutter and ended up chipping it to mid-on.

Young hit three more fours signifying his intent but a double-wicket over by Saifuddin again put the brakes on New Zealand's scoring rate. Saifuddin first removed the dangerous-looking Young, trapping him in front of middle and off for 20. Two balls later, he removed Colin de Grandhomme lbw. The Blackcaps lost two more wickets for just 16 runs – Rachin Ravindra (20) was bowled by Mahmudullah, while Tom Latham (5) was caught and bowled by Mahedi Hasan.

At 62/5 with nine more overs to go, New Zealand took their time to settle. The Bangladesh bowlers were able to choke the scoring rate but failed to create any breakthroughs. Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell managed to hold on and kept the scoreboard ticking. They rotated strike and pounced on the bad balls, stitching a defying sixth-wicket stand. Their unbeaten 66-run partnership helped the Blackcaps post 128/5.

Bangladesh are going to regress even further if they continue to produce stupid wickets for T20's

Shameful for BD cricket. Real shame. Lost to these inexperienced groups

Full strength BD team got 3-0 whitewashed against Afg. So there is no shame in losing this T20 match.

Truth is BD was never a good T20 team and that is why they are playing qualifiers for world cup.

They know that the only way they can defeat teams is by making such junks at home. They would have hard time defeating even Netherlands away from home

That's all try but if they want to improve then they have to produce true wickets and learn to bat and bowl on them. That is if they want to improve

It is a decent pitch if you ask me. 140-150 is on here

NZ didnt apply themselves well. Bangladesh were atrocious. Dont blame the pitch

Yeah. Better wicket today.

This was same pitch as last game I think (both sides crossed 135 last game).

I am not convinced by any of our batsman in the last 6 wins we had. I honestly can't tell if the openers were middle order is good?

Pitch is poor for T20, batman cannot hit easy sixes or fours. However, I believe this is how T20 pitches will be in UAE. There were many 80 to 120 scores in IPL 2020 there.

Just looked up, IPL 2020 had just 6 scores between 80-120 out of 60 matches (120 innings). 2nd leg of PSL in 2021 had some big scores with good average score as well if I am not wrong. Also historically UAE wickets can on occasions be a bit slow so even with bit of turn good batsmen can get that extra bit of time to adjust than.

UAE pitches won't be 120-130 runs pitch like Mirpur. ICC will produce high scoring pitch innWC for sure. It isn't going to help our preparation.

We were whitewashed by a full strength Afg team which will beat this NZ School boys any day. I just can't accept the way BD loose to these ameteur NZ team.

I thought it was decent for game 2 but not this game. Once the ball got a few overs old it was very tough to score fluently.

I think it would make an interesting ODI wicket however.

Bangladesh v New Zealand, 4th T20I
Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur

New Zealand will be prepared for a Bangladesh resistance in the fourth T20I to restore parity in the series and make it 2-2 to force a decider.

Bangladesh, however, are on the verge of their first T20I series win against New Zealand and will aim to achieve this as soon as possible. In spin-friendly conditions, the hosts will back themselves despite a heavy 52-run loss in the previous game.

With the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on the horizon, both teams will be vying to make the most use of their resources.

Remember the last time:

New Zealand were happy to defend the target in the third T20I with their spinners, Ajaz Patel and Cole McConchie ensuring a dominating performance. They posted a modest total of 128/5 on the board with Tom Blundell and Henry Nicholls propelling the score with a 66-run stand for the fifth wicket.

The hosts were off to a steady start with 23/0 in 2.4 overs but after the fall of their first wicket – Liton Das for 13 – the rest of the team fell like dominoes. Bangladesh folded for 76 in 19.4 overs with Mushfiqur Rahim remaining unbeaten on 20*. New Zealand spinners, Ajaz and Cole, picked seven wickets between them.

What they said:

Tom Latham (New Zealand captain): “ The conditions are different to what we have back home, but looking at the Aussie series, there were no surprises for us. I still feel we have a bit left in the tank for a complete performance.”

Mahmud Ullah (Bangladesh captain): “I think the middle order has been batting well, the top order has been doing a good job, what was missing were the partnerships and hopefully we can come back hard. Still two games to go and hopefully we like to win the next game and the series.”

Bennett getting another game.

Another bad pitch it seems where batsmen can't judge the pace or bounce.

What a damn shot from Finn Allen.

Superstar in the making.

Switch hit for six.

This Ravindra must have serious back up. Without any performance he is playing his 4th game. This guy has no future in NZ team.

NZ have dropped the two seamers who have actually bowled well in the last game. I don't see why they need rotation in a back up squad.

Trying out new combinations?

New Zealand have shown they didn't take this tour seriously.

Nah, he'll come good. Highly touted and a class batsmen, this series is not a good series to judge him.

First series, alien conditions and a T20 series where he's expected to get a move on.

That too for Bennett who is likely to go for 10 an over like he always does..

‘World’ Champion NZ losing to BD, they should be relegated to minnow status, their fans have started to cry about pitches against such opposition, they should be ashamed.

New Zealand have handled Bangladeshi bowlers much better than Aussies did.

It shows Kiwis have better bench strength.

CDG has gone down the batting order. Didn't come to his usual position.

I think he should've been benched. He has had a bad series.

He should play as a bowler and bat at no. 7 or 8. Doesn't have any skill to play as an opener. He is creating unnecessary pressure on middle order. He neither has muscle power nor has skill to cope with better bowlers.

We messed up, should have sent the first choice players here. Would have been good preparation to play in Indian conditions.

This series must really be a traumatic experience for all the Kiwis involved

They may all have to apply their welfare policy card for the Pakistan tour

Nah lol, he's class and has the potential to be a world class batsmen.

It's a T20 series, nobody cares about the results here.

This pitch is tough, we need to get to 100-110 to give ourselves a decent chance to win.

3 overs left, bat 2 more out and hit out the last one.

100 could be defended here if we bowl well.
