Looks like at least a delayed start, if not a washout on Day 1. Hopefully there will be some play.

51*F, Showers and 23 mph wind. That's crazy. Not weather for cricket. :(

no play expected today atleast till 3rd session

what if this game is curtailed by rain. and pak won the next 1.

still pak will lose points

If rain indeed prevents the match to be played through then you have to question the scheduling of said series.

Not only this technology is available and you know in advance that weather will be great. Why not change the schedule of the venue a month in advance. No point playing cricket with rain forecast. And i always feel that there should be a reserve day for test matches. If ICC is serious about saving test cricket.

Never a good idea scheduling a series in New Zealand in November, can't recall one ever not impacted by the weather. It's less than ideal preparation for the tour to Australia.

If there's no play today hopefully there's some tommorow no work on Friday so can stay away for 2 sessions at least

I was trackingbthe weather in Christchurch for the last 24 hours & it looked very optimistic and promising that we would get some cricket in on Day 1......

.....only to realise that I was looking at Christchurch, England instead of Christchurch, New Zealand :mv

Time to get to bed I guess :sanga

:))):)))

it does not look good. I stayed up late for this. :(

I still haven't gone to the ground but the rain is easing up now. Ground staff can have the ground ready for play 2 hours after the rain stops so i think we might get some play in today.

I was expecting this. Not surprised to see such dreary conditions.

Do you think we'll get 2 sessions in today?

Do you think we'll get 2 sessions in today?

Depends. Its going to clear but there is a few nagging showers that could slow things down if they pass over the city. If the suns comes out we will be all go.

Christchurch dries up super quickly when the sun comes out and the Hagley outfield is amazing.

hopefully it clears up enough to start around 1 or 2pm. Anything before that is very unlikely.

Rain has got only heavier. I think we are done for the day sadly.

Was so looking forward to first day's play. Not getting any cricket today would be a massive disappointment.

It depends on the drainage as well - hopefully its state of the art.

So ARY News was lying about Pakistan batting first?

:)) Just found out why this is.

PTV were showing highlights of NZ tour of UAE and they showed the toss for one of the matches for some reason so these news channels failed to differentiate and started reporting it as the toss for this match.

What's the point of arranging a Test series when it rains? Some people lack brains when it comes to these things man.

Space Cat what's the latest?

Any hope of at least a session of play?

Its improved a lot but there is isolated showers coming through to hamper things. Im still pretty optimistic of 1 session of play.

I feel like day 1 is gonna get washed out. I don't believe in any of the false hope people give out on cricinfo.

Inspection in 40 mins. Some covers coming off.

Hopefully no more rain.

Play possible in around 90 mins.

Big If though, any more rain then play will be most likely be abandoned for the day

it should start tomorrow. A test match should start with a proper first session in the morning.

Think we will get play today.

Also, it's absolutely pathetic how Saad Nasim is being mentioned in the same sentence as Farhat and Butt. This is why PAK fans are the worst.

Why can't we play in rain, I mean why hasn't science worked a way around that ??

We have gotten to the point where we're essentially developing self intelligent droids to assist us in all sorts of things but NOOOOOO !!! We just can't freaking play cricket if it's raining :69: :69: :69:

I wanted to see some test cricket today man :(

Sun is shining according to cricinfo and groundsmen are clearing water off the covers. I wouldnt be too optimistic yet though since this has happened like 5 times already

and its drizzling again
i dont think so we will be able to watch any cricket today

Need to do a Mirpur here to see the start of the match.

But i know that the water drainage system is not as good as Mirpur there. So chance of any play is far distant. Is it past tea time now there in New Zealand?

Washed out warm up game.

Earthquake.

1st Day essentially rained out.

:))

It's all gone wrong for organizers.

They may get some overs in but ive decided not to go down now. Its very windy.

Gona turn out nice for the rest of the test though.

Is it the first time, after the conception of the Idea of 4 day tests, has day 1 of a test match been washed off ?? If so then the ICC can treat it as an exhibition to test out the concept of 4 day cricket. The venue does have a green top so I guess Junaids bhai will be happy as well :P

I am not in favor of 4 day tests though but I guess this should tell us a bit about four day tests in general and whether they are workable or not !!

Is there any chance of play today?

Certainly possible but it would only take another little passing shower to ruin things like it has the past few hours.

The outfield is excellent so the only issue is the rain falling on the pitch.

These are the situation, ICC has to come strong. In Soccer, despite extreme tight schedule, they reschedule matches. If the 1st day is completely washed out, they can easily reschedule the match for 1 day delayed start & play full 5 days. There are 3 days gap between 1st & 2nd Test - either they can delay the departure by a day or squeeze 1 day between 2 Tests. If there are no more rain delay, then 392 overs should be enough for a result; but couple of partial interrupted days, we'll have a draw in a 2 Match series, which is not good for promoting Test cricket.

Might get some play. Looks good. Its either a southee/aamer end to the day. Not bad considering how much i ve looked forward for todays play. 4.30 probably start off time

I just went to subway its not so bad outside now. Just windy.

horrible little session for the team that has to bat first if they do go out and play.

im thinking i should print out my space cat avatar to huge size and wave it in the crowd during the test.
