No need to circle in on Naseem like a pack of vultures. He’s not bowling like he did in England or against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, or even the PSL. He’s clearly rusty given the lack of cricket, it’s unfair to call him overhyped if he’s currently bowling 135s while the hype was for the Naseem bowling 150s.

I think management is at fault here for not getting him back into rhythm before this match. And if they knew he was out of rhythm, he shouldn’t have been played.

He played in the Shaheen's game. If he was out of rhythm then that should have been noticed.

Naseem has never had a qualified or competent bowling coach.

He is bowling like a teenager who has had too much exposure to Waqar Younis. And, like Waqar from 1989-95, he is clueless with a new ball.

Let’s just hope that he can bowl like Waqar when the ball gets old.

Indeed. Hopefully he can induce Williamson to play with his hard hands in light of the obvious fields that can easily be set against Kane....

Yasir looks fat. I mean that belly was already very round, but now it seems as he has successfully added an extra layer of fat around his abdomen muscles. Great job, Yasir.

Imam’s only problem while commenting is that he is trying to communicate too fast which is why the pronunciation is off.

Think the commentator has not called him Imam yet. Keeps saying Iman, or maybe its earwax on my part...

I’m amazed our bowlers haven’t bowled one bouncer to Williamson.

I think you're missing the point. He's expectant and has an ultrasound coming up. He's incubating the next Shane Warne inside.

I must say imam is commentating v well apart from mentioning obviously hundred times

So, number of pacers wasn't the biggest issue then I guess ...... Waquar is PAK's bowling coach for few years now and the old man Abbas looks like learned quite few from him .... it might not be WY only.

lol, I was going to write something like your post, but then decided to be nice in my own way.

Waqar may not have developed new ball skills till late into his career, but he probably didn't bowl anything under 140kph in the years that you've mentioned. Naseem has looked completely toothless here. No pace, no movement, no control

A tough chance. Maybe need to step in a bit closer

I think, Will played it with his usual HARD HAND, hence it carried to the slip, had he played with soft hands .........

Half the runs have been scored off Naseem so far. He needs to find his line and length fast.

After the Shaheens game, my first name on the team sheet after Rizwan would have been Amad Butt.

He would have kept control. And shortened the tail.

He won't catch that. But finally Naseem's bowled a delivery similar to the one he bowled to dismiss Root. But that one was fuller and straightened from closer to stumps. Cannot really say this was a genuine drop though. Shan did well to go for it, was not going to carry to 1st slip.

He is taking chance here because hardly any of the posters here have seen WY in his early years...... and I am not in the mood of exposing rubbish today.

Don’t waste your energy sir. Better spend that explaining to me whether you think Shaheen and Abbas should be brought back on right now

Agreed but Misbah picked his friend sohail Khan.

Not sure why everyone is surprised at Naseem looking rusty and down on pace. 2nd competitive game since returning from injury. Be patient.

I agree. I am just saying that Faheem may be able to do the same job as Abbas does. No wickets and keep things tight, with slightly better pace.

I see. I agree that they will likely do a similar job but MA is more potent with the ball and gets it to nibble from a wonderful line and length. And he his metronomic consistency also outshines that of FA. So far I think we have not had much reason to regret his selection as a bowler. Let's see how the Test pans out.

Haahahaha, but you like me and others have not resisted from thinly veiled jibes about Williamson's "hard hands"...

Now Naseem is finally bowling well. Figured out the line/length he needs to be bowl at.

Pace still isn't there quite yet but hopefully it will ramp up.

That’s the Naseem we were expecting! Looks like a horribly rhythm-dependent bowler

May be they could have used Shaheen; definitely Abbas, who won't be much of any use after 35 overs. But, i think the plot was lost by Naseem's spell.

OK, good rhythm good ball that one. Better ball than the one that took the edge. Shape from straighter to the stumps.

It took Naseem some time against ENG too to get into his groove but he was not quite all over. Now he seems to be warming up though.

Much better from Naseem. Shows glimpses of what he can do here and thereZ If he works hard on his game and gets few years to polish himself, he can be a pretty good pacer in the long run.

About even. Pakistan's new ball pair were on the money but NZ have recovered well.

That guy WY took 100+ wickets for Surrey in that summer of 1990 and he was frightening with new ball.....

NZ's session hands down here

Good session for Pakistan
Typically not clinical enough however

They have allowed the pressure to be released a bit. Williamson and Taylor were allowed to be comfortable after the first spell by Abbas and Shaheen. That can come back to haunt us.

Tough session, pretty even so far. Naseem's last two overs were much better, and Yasir's on target as well. Williamson-Taylor partnership the key so far, gotta see their backs in the hut asap.

Even session for both teams. Pakistan walks with 2 wickets but poor second hour while NZ gets their 2 best batsmen off to a start.

He's not ready at all for the rigors of test cricket. Needs to go back to FC and earn his place again

You don't need to convince me. I post infrequently here but try not to veer on the cusp of sacrilege with my posts when I do post ;)

Good session overall. Shaheen was outstanding, Abbas and Faheem kept things tight, Yasir looked good, and Naseem bounced back after a terrible start. I'd get Shaheen in right away to start the second session.
