A long-awaited return to Bangladesh for the Blackcaps, who are set to tour the country for a split ODI and Test series, marking the first such encounter since 2013.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board unveiled the itinerary of New Zealand's long-awaited tour which features three ODIs ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. The white-ball series would hold significant importance for both teams in their preparations leading up to the marquee event.

The second leg of the tour comprises a two-match Test series which will be a part of the current ICC World Test Championship cycle. The red-ball clashes will take place after the World Cup in November-December.

India v Pakistan clash among nine World Cup fixtures rescheduled
The tour is set to commence on 21 September, with all three ODIs scheduled to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Following the conclusion of the World Cup, the Test series is scheduled to start in late November. The venue for both Tests will be announced at a later time.

2019 World Cup finalists New Zealand will begin their CWC23 campaign on 5 October – the tournament opener – against the reigning champions England in Ahmedabad.

Bangladesh begin their World Cup journey against Afghanistan on 7 October at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

New Zealand toured BD about 2 years ago but that was a T20 series. NZ sent in a B team which lost against BD.

NZ haven't played an ODI or Test in BD since 2013. They got whitewashed last time they played ODI in BD.

Lockie Ferguson is set to captain the BLACKCAPS for the first time in an international fixture during the upcoming three match ODI Series against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Ferguson, who recently led the team in tour matches in England, will captain the side in the absence of regular ODI captain Kane Williamson as he continues to recover from knee surgery, and regular deputy Tom Latham - who will miss the series to have time at home before the ICC Cricket World Cup and Test tour to Bangladesh.

In another potential first, Dean Foxcroft has earned his maiden selection in a BLACKCAPS ODI Squad fresh from his international T20 debut last month against the United Arab Emirates.

Along with Latham, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee were also left out of the squad, allowing them a short break to focus on, and prepare for, the World Cup tournament, for which they will assemble only 12 days after the start of the Bangladesh series.

Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham both weren’t considered for selection because the tour coincides with the arrival of or shortly after the birth of their first children, respectively.

The need to manage player workloads sees the squad feature an experienced core including five players from the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Squad and a group of players newer to One Day International cricket.

Coach Gary Stead said the busy nature of the touring schedule meant striking a balance was important.

“We have a very full schedule between now until the end of our tour to Pakistan in April including the World Cup and the start of the new World Test Championship cycle so trying to keep players and staff fresh and ready at the right times is paramount.”

“Balancing workloads also provides opportunities and it’s exciting to have different players in the group and learning in an environment like Bangladesh. It can be a challenging place to tour and getting used to different conditions quickly will be important over the next few months.”

Stead pointed to Lockie Ferguson’s chance to lead the side as an example of the opportunity presented by the series.

“Lockie is an experienced bowler at the international level, and this is an opportunity for him to really lead from the front with not just the bowling group but the team as a whole. He stepped into the role for the warm-up matches in England and led a group with a lot of moving parts well.”

Stead said Dean Foxcroft had earned his call up on the back of strong domestic form for the Otago Volts.

“Any time a player is selected for the first time it’s exciting and Dean’s shown as the Volts’ leading white ball run scorer last summer the talent he has. We were impressed with the way he came into the group with the T20 Squad, and this will be another great opportunity to keep learning in our environment.”

Regular BLACKCAPS batting coach Luke Ronchi will lead the coaching group in Bangladesh as head coach with Shane Jurgensen in his usual role as bowling coach and Ian Bell continuing on from the ODI Series against England as batting coach.

With many players from both sides are resting ahead of the World Cup, it will be a great chance for some youngsters to shine in this ODI series before the mage event.

Kinda silly to rest your main players. BD had a bad Asia cup with team combination all over the place. woudn't they want to get their team combination done and dusted with prior to the begining of the wc?

The rain has come and the covers are being brought on. Not a positive news for cricket fans.

The rain has arrived again and the groundsmen rush in with the covers. The good thing is that it's quite windy out there and hopefully, the wind will blow the rain away.

The covers are all off but there are certain areas on the outfield which seem to be damp and wet. Hence, the next inspection is set to be at 4:00 pm local.

NZ 76/2 21.2 overs
Will young 33(69) and Henry Nicholls 28(38) are on crease. Building partnership.

Rain affected the start of play hence match is restricted to 42 overs each side.

1st ODI Between NZ vs BAN has been abandoned due to persistent rain.

It seemed that Bangladesh had a chance to win this game but rain intervened.

With such stats it's going to be a challenging task for New Zealand to face Bangladesh at their home.

Khaled Ahmed will be making his debut for Bangladesh. As far as rain is concerned, cover are all off.

After 2 overs, NZ are 10/0. Cautious start from Black Caps. Guess what will be the final score?

Mustafizur got Will Young. Black Caps are down 1 wicket now. An excellent line from Mustafizur got him his first wicket of the match.

Another one for Mustafizur. 2nd wicket down for Black Caps. Finn Allen is gone caught in the slips.

3rd wicket is down now. Debutant has his first wicket in the very first over. Chad Bowes is gone for 14.
NZ 36/3 (8.1 overs)

NZ 106/3 after 22 overs.
what should be the final score after 50 overs? I guess it will be around 260-270.

New Zealand is the most dramatic team when it comes to tour Pakistan or Bangladesh.

BD 32/1 7.1 overs
Tamim Iqbal 19(26)
Tanzid Hasan 4(1)

Kyle Jamieson took 1 wicket

Bangladesh gotta be a little ashamed of their performances. The fact is while batting, they have zero team work, it's like every individual playing his own game with no regard for team situation. Fact is in this world cup, Bangladesh has the most experienced odi batting line up. Tamim, Litton, mahmudullah, shakib and mushfeer probably have combined more experience than any other batting line up in this wc and yet they keep loosing, these 5 owe it to their country to play as a team and win some goddamn matches.

BD 104/5
Ish Sodhi 6 overs 4/29
Bangladesh need 149 runs from 28.4 overs.

BD 144/6 32.2 Overs

BD Needs 112 runs from 17.5 overs with 4 wickets in hands.

NZ is few inches closer to victory.

Bangladesh needs 102 runs in 69 balls and NZ needs 2 wickets to win

Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain Bangladesh as Litton Das is unavailable, making him the 16th ODI leader for the team.

Bangladesh have won the toss and have opted to bat

Bangladesh
(Playing XI): Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Zakir Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Khaled Ahmed

New Zealand (Playing XI): Finn Allen, Will Young, Dean Foxcroft, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell(w), Rachin Ravindra, Cole McConchie, Ish Sodhi, Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson(c), Trent Boult

Zakir Hasan and Tanzid Hasan are back in the pavilion. Bangladesh is in trouble now.

After 4 overs, Bangladesh is 24/2. Will Towhid and Shanto be able to get their team out of trouble?

Towhid Hridoy is gone. Bangladesh lost their 3rd wicket within the first 6 overs. Trouble for them.

New Zealand is determined to make history in this tour of Bangladesh. I think they will win this ODI series comfortably

Disaster for BD - not a good build up for the World Cup at all.

BAN 152/5 (26.3) CRR: 5.74
Bangladesh opt to bat

NZ are 134/3 and need 38 from 19 overs. Should be an easy win for NZ now

New Zealand trash Bangladesh and win by 7 wickets with 91 balls remaining. Very impressive win considering how strong Bangladesh are at home

The Kiwi's hitting good form after a dismal ODI series in England

Bangladesh forgot how to bat in ODI’s. Can’t even bat 50overs these days. Lost ODI series to Afg at home! ODI used to be BD’s best format - that’s a thing of the past. Now T20 is their best format, having whitewashed England! I feel going forward BD will be like Windies in ODI’s

New Zealand emerged victorious in the 3rd ODI match between New Zealand and Bangladesh in Dhaka, securing a 2-0 series win.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to field, setting the stage for a clinical performance by their bowlers. In an exhibition of fast bowling, Adam Milne and Trent Boult quickly removed the Bangladeshi openers, and they continued to take key wickets throughout the innings. Despite the Bangladesh captain, Najmul Shanto leading from the front scoring 76 runs, he received little support from his teammates. Bangladesh was skittled out for 171 in just 34.3 overs.

Chasing a small target, New Zealand got off to a strong start, with Finn Allen hitting three boundaries in the very first over. Although Shoriful Islam managed to break the opening partnership by dismissing Allen, New Zealand's Will Young and Henry Nicholls put on an 81-run partnership for the third wicket. They played with caution, effectively extinguishing any hopes for the home team.

Will Young, who was later named the Player of the Match, continued to score runs and punish loose deliveries on his way to a well-deserved half-century. Although Nasum bowled a peach of a delivery to dismiss Young for 70, it came too late for the hosts. Henry Nicholls, who had narrowly missed half-centuries in the previous matches, reached the milestone this time. New Zealand comfortably reached the target with 15.1 overs to spare.

This victory marked New Zealand's first ODI series win in Bangladesh since 2008. They would be pleased to win this series after losing the ODI series in England earlier this month. They now go into the word cup with good momentum. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will look to regroup before heading to India.

Match Summary

New Zealand’s tour of Bangladesh (Men), 3rd ODI, Dhaka 26 August 2023

BD played without Shakib and Mehidy Hassan Miraz.

But, then again, NZ were also missing some key players.

This is an irrelevant series (for both sides) that served as a warmup for World Cup.

Glad nobody sustained any injury before World Cup.
