I was looking into it and i have seen that new zealand has come close in many world cups but unfortunate were never able to cross the line. This is no means a diss thread after Pakistan , i do support new Zealand and sri Lanka. I have been following cricket more closely in 2012, and it became my number one sport in 2014, im gonna list some results of new Zealand in the world cup i would just like to know can anyone tell me why they were not able to cross the line in world cups

they have always been a talented team, that is well organized, and play with a fighting spirit, their actually a team world cricket can look up to, so why have they not been able to achieve glory.

ICC WORLD CUP
1975 NZ lost Semi final to WI
1979 NZ lost semi final to England
1992 NZ lost semi final to Pakistan
1999 NZ lost semi final to Pakistan
2007 NZ lost semi final to Sri Lanka
2011 NZ lost semi final to Sri Lanka
2015 NZ lost final to Australia
2019 NZ lost final to England

6 semi finals, and 2 finals

ICC WORLD T20
2007 NZ lost Semi final to Pakistan
2016 NZ lost semi final to England

2 semi finals

I hope they can win the next world t20 or icc world cup they really deserve it

WT20 is not going to make up for that, nothing will.

What if they win the World Cup in 2023 unfortunately the World Cup of 2019 is over need to look forward and move on agree it was a heartbreaking way to lose , since ICC had this dumb rule from the start but their is nothing that can be done im sure New Zealand winning a world title can make up for it

They won the Champions trophy in 2000, also finished runner ups in 2009 and semi-finalists in 2006.

Need to win to 2 to make up for that heartbreak.

Nothing more tragic has happened in cricket than what happened today.

No it won't. SA still suffer from 1999 and that was completely in their hands, this one was grueling and cruel to watch.

Once teams start playing cricket and once other tournaments come around they will be looking forward not backwards. Agree this game will always be in the history books and will be in the players mind but New Zealand cricketers are mentally strong and will bounce back from this

Obviously it doesn't look good losing this many semis and finals but PP like to talk about Pakistan being a tournament team. This is what you call a tournament team. No matter the condition, they get to the last 4. I have to give them credit , NZ is not a big country. Yet they find a way through sheer effort and hard work to get to semis and finals.

PAK has 3 ICC trophies NZ has 1.
Just saying...

I would say they're a big country, they're one of the wealthiest nations on Earth and could be considered big in that regard so while they don't have a huge population their high per capita and national wealth gives them a big edge over the poorer developing countries.

Yep and Pakistan gained test status only in 1952 while the black caps was granted test status since 1930, they also have a much older cricket heritage and grassroots systems as most New Zealanders descended from British immigrants.

Cricket is not that popular in NZ. Rugby is #1.

I read that most Kiwi folks don't follow cricket.

Rugby is the number one sport for sure
But cricket is up their a lot of folks follow even the ones that aren't fans have a general idea of the game and when New Zealand play their home games you get a decent amount of crowd too

From what I understand, sports in Aus and Nz are seasonal. So cricket is the #1 summer sport but rugby is their national obsession that has fans all year round but they play in the winter.

I was looking at my old threads, and saw i made this one.

So with the Finals lost in 2021 t20 world cup, it was first time New Zealand made the finals, in t20 world cup.

If you include both ODI and t20 world cup. New Zealand has played 3 finals, and lost all three times. With such a strong side, one must feel they got to win sooner or later.

I think 2022 T20 world cup should be their best chance.

I do not see NZ win 2023 WC in India.

Santher and Sodhi would be good combo , but I think apart from Williamson they lack proper players of spin bowling.

I dont see them winning in 2023, not in those conditions. NZ missed some golden chances to win.

For t20, if you look at the next 4 coming up
(2022) in Australia
(2024) In USA and Windies
(2026) India and Sri Lanka
(2028) In Australia and New Zealand
(2030) in England Wales Ireland Scotland

They can easily win 1 world cup from what I see mostly like in 2022, 2028 or 2030.

However in ODI world cup the next 3 editions dont favor NZ

2023- India host
2027- South Africa Host
2031- India and Bangladesh Host

Maybe they can win in 2027, but I dont see it happening.

Basically from now until 2031- If NZ is to win a world cup it would most likley be in T20 format, and even than its possible they dont win a T20 either.

For them to win any world cup they need to face India in finals. Any other team in the final and they have zero chance.

New Zealand and South Africa are the two best rugby teams in the world. Cricket is secondary in both the countries.

With the 2021 t20 world cup result of New Zealand losing the finals: They have played 3 finals in ICC world cup events. 2 in ODI and 1 in T20.

Is 2022 the year were New Zealand can make it happen and win a World cup.

In t20 world cups now
2007 lost in semi finals to pak
2016 lost in semi finals to eng
2021 lost in finals to Australia
2022 lost in semi finals to pak

They have made semi finals 3 times and runner up 1 time in t20 world cup.

If you combine odi and t20 world cup

Nz made semi finals 9 times and have been runner up 3 times.

Their job is to take out one of the big time tournament favourites. Once that is done they feel accomplished and satisfied.

They play with low intensity in almost all such matches. There is no firebrand aggression you expect from a champino material.I think they have to treat this as a goal and go after it religiously and one day they will end up on the right side
