Nigerian Gang-War With Swords In Delhi Hospital, Staff Hid In Toilets

NEW DELHI: Armed with swords and cleavers, around a dozen Nigerian nationals fought in a hospital in south Delhi as terrified staff hid in toilets and upper floors. The incident took place a little before daybreak on Saturday, after three wounded Nigerians came to the hospital in Saket for treatment.

Around 4 am, when the wounded men walked in, their friends allegedly waited outside. The police say the fight started when a member of a rival gang drove up in an auto-rickshaw and barged in.

Security footage has captured the clashes and chilling visuals of men holding cleavers. A broken door is on the floor as the men pummel each other.

The rival groups clashed for nearly an hour in the hospital reception. A guard who tried to stop them was also beaten and left injured. The staff and nurses of the clinic reportedly bolted all access to the upper floors where patients are recovering.

The groups allegedly vandalized the hospital and ran away before the police arrived.

Few months back there were clashes between Nigerians and locals in Noida after a 16yr old died of drug overdose.

This incidents have caused diplomatic issues between India and Nigeria.Nigerians seem to react if India takes tough stance againist these criminals.But enough is enough, the govt needs to strictly control the visas issued to Nigerians and deport those overstaying visas.They can continue their gangster ways in their own country.

Seen plenty of Africans in Indian cities. Don't know which nationality they are. But from News papers majority are Nigerians. Most are students studying medicine or Engineering. Some get caught in drug selling cases and some gang violence and everyone will get targeted.

The stereotype of African = Drug Dealer has caught up with the public. You see issues of them treated differently and not given rooms to rent etc. You need both hands to clap and this African issue in India is a prime case.

Around 100 people of African origin on Saturday surrounded a police team in the Neb Sarai area of South Delhi, clashed with them, and freed Nigerian nationals who had been detained over visa expiration by the anti-drugs force. The detainees were being taken to the police station.

A Narcotics Cell team had at 2:30 pm gone to Raju Park in Neb Sarai for deportation proceedings of overstaying foreign nationals, and picked up three Nigerian citizens whose visas had expired.

Meanwhile, a mob of over 100 people of African origin surrounded them, and obstructed the police operation. Two of the three detained managed to successfully escape during the chaos, but the police managed to catch one of them, 22-year-old Philip, again.

Videos shot by bystanders showed the police forming a human barricade along with a thick rope while people from the mob shouted animatedly at them. A few physical altercations were also caught on camera.

Later, a joint team from the Neb Sarai Police Station and the Narcotics Squad visited Raju Park again at 6:30 pm, and detained four Nigerians, including one woman.

In retaliation, 150 to 200 people of African origin surrounded the police team again, and tried to help the detainees escape, police said. The police somehow managed to control the escalating situation, and brought the offenders to the Neb Sarai Police Station, where their deportation proceedings are underway.

Hehe it ain't a new thing, happened last year in Delhi as well. We all know the main profession of most Nigerians in Delhi but cops usually look thr other way because of serious money the drugs rake in and everyone gets commission.

What regularly? This is a rare incident.

Police has deported 65 Nigerians in last few weeks. Another 5 have been arrested and in process of deportation after the above incident.

Yes. Not just oil imports. Several big business groups have operations in Nigeria. Many of my mba class mates now work in Nigeria for Indian MNCs

Few years back Nigerian gang was busted in Goa but it led to bad press and accusations of racism by African envoys

Plus these Nigerian gangs are nothing more than a nuisance. They mostly fight among themselves and never harm Indians. Don't really need to lose head over them and create unnecessary diplomatic hassles

ps : The real gangs India need to worry about are the Russian gangs. Last 2 weeks 3 Russian nationals including a billionaire got murdered - most likely by Russian agents due to their criticism of Putin. That should worry India more. Not this bunch of Nigerian drug peddlers
