It seems like everyone was watching this test game, even ppl who haven't followed the game in last 20 years...

don't think anyone would complain ... it's when we put on spineless displays like in NZ or the 1st innings of this test is what's bothersome.

Great performance from Pakistan. Now Aussies know that this Pakistan side cannot be taken lightly.

Remember yesterday morning?

I wrote that Imran's wicketkeeper Wasim Bari, the current team manager, put me in my place when I told him that he should pray for rain.

"No young man. We are going to fight it out." Those were the great glovesman's exact words to me, 30 hours ago.

And they were as good as their word.

Junaids I owe you an apology.

I was sure Pakistan were going to win at 430-8.

Why were you so confident that Pakistan would still lose even if score was 470-8?

Curious to know your thoughts, since there is only a difference of 40 runs between the two scores and only 60 were left to win the match and both batsmen were set.

Would love to pick your brain on this one.

the hardest thing is getting over that line .
last 20 runs would have bought extreme pressure given where we had come from

Seriously? It's doubly hard to score the last 50 runs to win if you have very few wickets left. Batsmen starts thinking more about win and don't want to take risk to get out. That restricts scoring as well.

So many times it has happened in history. Last 40-50 runs are most difficult for batting side due to pressure.

They didn't even look under any pressure 60 runs away from target.

Sure Yasir got run out in a silly fashion but lets be honest, match was all but over when Starc bowled a ripper to dismiss Shafiq. 41 runs was going to be too much for Yasir and Rahat who is just abysmal with the bat. May be Yasir could've tonked a few more runs but ultimately we'd have fallen even more agonizingly short like 15-20 runs.

If we had Sohail partnering Yasir though, I am confident Yasir would not have panicked like he did right next ball after Shafiq was dismissed. What a crucial decision that also ended up costing us.

Sohail's utility with the bat seems to be very underrated.

Just pressure.

There was no real pressure on Pakistan until they got within 50 runs of the target, but this target was so huge that it was like the first ascent of Mount Everest.

All the pressure was on Australia - hence the dropped catches last night. But when it got down to less than 50 runs, the pressure swapped over to Pakistan - and they only had 2 wickets left.

But I've watched quite a few of these Test run chases down the years, plus one ODI one in the days when that was the same as Test cricket.

I would list:

Lillee and Thomson, 1975 World Cup Final v West Indies. Came in at 233-9 chasing 291, got out at 274.

Border and Thomson, MCG Test v England 1982-83. Came in at 218-9 chasing 292, got out at 288.

May and McDermott, Adelaide Test 1992-93, where victory would have made Australia world champions. Came in at 144-9 chasing 186 to win, got out at 184.

Lee and Kasprowicz, Ashes Edgbaston 2005. Came in at 220-9 chasing 282, got out at 279.

Pressure is a terrible thing.

It was rubbish captaincy from Smith. He started attacking later and initially he was just waiting for batsmen to make mistakes. Some chances were created when he started attacking.

Also, with 100 runs to go, I always feel that first 50 are easier than the last 50 runs. I even predicted Aus win with Indians having 7-8 wickets in hand when Kohli played a gun knock. Partially based on how dangerous Lyon was bowling and getting turn, but also due to pressure. Here you are talking about just 2 wickets in hand. There are several examples like this.

You never, ever owe me an apology.

This is a game that we both love, and we are men from completely different cultural backgrounds whose personal ethics and morals are different, because they just represent our upbringing and the values we learned.

It means that we disagree, especially on areas where personal morality affects our responses to a given issue. But I respect you enormously, you always make me reflect on my own beliefs, and I thoroughly enjoy our exchanges.

I learn a lot from you.

If you fight and loose it is okay .

They fought well , and need to make sure they carry the momentum in the first innings of next test as well,

Other Indian fans like me probably heaved a sigh of relief once this was over. Given how much we heard about Pakistan's 2-2 series in England with respect to India's #1 ranking, I am sure we would have been hearing about a Pakistani victory till the end of time.

Outstanding innings by Amir, Wahab and Yasir. They outscored the first 3 batsmen.

If we had won, you would have to accept Pakistan is better than Australia in foreign conditions.

You lost the 4 match series 2-0 with 2 draws.

If Pakistan manages to win any test against Australia it is better than India when touring abroad.

That has always been the boiling point between two sets of fans. One set always claims their team is better touring than the other. However winning in Australia is something neither Indian nor Pakistanis have tasted for a long time.

Whoever does so, will rightfully be touted as the best Asian touring team.

Yes they fought to the end and batted well in the 2nd innings but for large parts of this match they were an absolute shambles.

Yes, you are right. A victory by a SC team in Australia would be very significant.

Having said that, I will also add that though India lost 2-0, they did not lose badly. They drew 2 Tests and were beaten by just 48 runs and 4 wickets in the other two. I am not willing to concede the bragging rights of ICC's #1 ranking due to the team's performance in selected countries :)

Imran Khan has said several times that he follows cricket. How can he not ? He gave best years of his life to a sports.

Coming to close to chasing almost 500 in the 4th inning against a very good bowling attack in a country where most of your team has either never played or playing after 6 years is a tremendous effort.

Amazing fightback and gave the Aussies a proper scare.

But need to back it up with a strong performance and more importantly a strong start to the next match.

I hope Pak wins the toss, and racks up a 450+ score, then see what these Aussies are made of?

This is the reason why we hardly win anything. I am sick of losing.

When was the last time we won a non T20 ICC tourney?

I am not proud at all, to be honest. It feels bad when you are on the brink of victory, but just can't get snatch it.

Because we couldn't chase down what would have been the highest fourth-innings total in history?

We lost because of our first innings performance and hopefully we'll learn from that.

This match was lost because top order took the 1st innings lightly, complacent, not there to win attitude.

I have not been watching cricket for a few years, I have watched over 20 years absolutely mediocrity even during our golden 90s period where our players threw countless matches to match fixing. Not even once managing to maintain no1 ranking.

How many ICC tourneys have we actually won? Even West Indies have won 2 recently.

We tour Zimbabwe and SL and win there and then pat ourselves on the back.

This is all not good enough, I want to see winners playing like champions and winning stuff. Is this so much to ask?

Sure, that's all fine. But I don't see how this relates to Pakistan's fightback at the Gabba?

If you mean we should have won the match yesterday then that's a bit of a tough ask.

Of course we should improve our limited over performances.

We should improve our loser mentality.

Why are we celebrating a 42 year old captain?

Where is our 26 year old champion leader? OZ have Steve Smith, India has Kohli, England have Root.

PCB earned 150 million dollars during 2003-2004 season, where did that money go? Why was there no grass roots development in the 90s? Why did it take till 2015?

I am sick of hearing excuses and loser fans backing their loser heroes. Go be a BD fan celebrate your 1 pointless series win a generation.

I am talking about continious success like the big boys, a conveyer belt of talent and trophies. I don't care about session wins or moral victories. We have been in cricket long enough to demand this. Untill I see this I will not be satisfied. Not sure when the penny will drop for PCB and the players in domestic cricket for what it takes to make this happen.

You're talking about the bigger picture which is fine. Your points are valid.

Coming back to the ongoing series, I feel the main reason why people are 'celebrating' the performance at the Gabba is because it gives us hope of doing better in the upcoming matches, plus of course the fact that past Pakistan teams containing bigger names have fared much worse.

Past Pakistan team won the world cup in Australia and won a series there as well. So lets not compare this team with the past team. It is no where near the past teams unless it WINS.

Dr_Bassim. In my opinion, reverse swing lost us the match at the end. Asad and Yasir were really confident and leaving balls outside off stump unless there was a delivery to hit. Before Asad got out, Josh Hazelwood started to reverse the ball during his last two overs. You could see that both Asad and Yasir were finding it difficult with Josh. The only reason Asad was committed to play on the that Starc delivery was because of the reverse swing. He was not sure on leaving balls anymore.

Pretty similar to the recent Edjbaston loss. The moment it started to reverse in the second session of the last day, we were in trouble. Don't think Asad and Yasir were in any pressure at that point. Maybe if they had gotten more closer, they would have felt the pressure. Who knows.

Interesting that Pakistan has lost last three tests in a row and no one is pointing out the wrong bowling attack and selection of Rahat, Sohail, Rizwan and Nawaz in the team ahead of so many deserving players.

Yes off course when you fight back, everyone appreciate it. But winning is matter. Win the match for the team and become living legend.
