KARACHI: The Karachi Dolphins, who have made the semifinals of the 2nd Twenty20 Cup national tournament, are keen to have the services of flamboyant Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi in the knockout games.
Afridi has recovered from a ribcage injury, which he sustained during the one-day series against India and was ordered two-week rest which he completed this week.
Rashid Khan, the Karachi Dolphins coach, said if Afridi was completely fit again he would ask him to play in the semifinals against Sialkot Stallions which was going to be a very tough match. "Afridi is a key player at any level and if we can have his services for the semifinal it would strengthen our eleven and make the match very interesting," he said.
Sialkot Stallions who have the services of several Pakistan players including all-rounder Shoaib Malik, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Mohammad Asif and Imran Nazir and some other top performers at the domestic level like Shahid Yousuf, Tahir Mughal, Qaiser Abbas, Sarfaraz Ahmed, are seen as the front-runners to reach the final.
Afridi in the first Twenty20 tournament held in Lahore last year also played just one or two games for Karachi and Rashid said his presence could be a big boost for the team as his style of play is ideally suited for the Twenty20 format.
Afridi, who has become a regular in the Pakistan Test and one-day sides, hurt his ribcage during a training session and was ruled out of the one-day series against India.
