Right handed middle-order batsman, Basit Ali, on this day scored his maiden ODI century against West Indies in 1993 at Sharjah.

Pakistan batted first and lost 3 wickets for the score of 87, at this point Basit Ali walked in and scored 127*, his maiden ODI ton in only 79 balls and together with Saleem Malik took Pakistan to a massive total of 284 runs in 50 overs.

Unfortunately Pakistan lost the match and West Indies won by 6 wickets, mainly thanks to a brilliant 153 from Brian Charles Lara.

Basit Ali went on to play 50 ODIs for Pakistan scoring 1265 runs at an average of 34.

These types of innings really stand out for me. Before they are expected in the age of T20s.

To come in at #5 and smack 127 off 79 balls with 5 sixes against the likes of Ambrose and Walsh is simply amazing.

Basit was a fantastic bat but did not do justice to his talent. He was compared a lot to Javed Miandad when he started his career.

What an inning that was. I remember after watching Pakistan's inning, I was sure that Pakistan had it in bag. Lara then played a blinder and it was really heartbreaking for me as a kid.

This odi competition was held a little after the 92/93 Pakistan test series against West Indies in West Indies. It was billed as the test championship of the world. Miandad had been sacked as captain despite incumbency and wasim became the captain instead.
It was Basit Ali’s debut test series and he came out of it with some respect as he scored a few half centuries while the others wilted. So in some ways this innings confirmed that basit Ali had the measure of the night West Indian attack.
As with most things Pakistan, the test series was an anti-climax. West Indies won 2-0 easily. For Pakistan there were high hopes that we found two new superb talents: basit ali and aamir Nazir.
Honorable mentions to the fab 4(inzi, Waqar, wasim, mushy) busted for lighting up on the beach in Grenada

How was Inzi's performance? Why was Basit Ali dropped from the side later on? Why didn't Wasim play in this game (The final of Pepsi cup 93) and Waqar was captain in this match

I assume you mean Inzi in West Indies: he was mediocre for most of the series till the last test match where he scored a century. The match ended in a draw.
Basit was dropped because officially he lost form badly, had a particularly poor test tour of Australia: plus he was also afflicted by the same issues that defined Pakistani cricketers in the 90’s. Which is why wasim did not play as well. Most of that era was about infighting or match-fixing.
What a waste of monumental talent all around

Basit Ali was dropped from world cup 96 squad to include the well over the past javeed miandad for record consecutive World Cup appearances. He was never the same.
