Simon Barnes (currently Chief Sports Writer of The Times) Writes about Inzamam.

We really shan't see his like again. Inzamam-ul-Haq was almost certainly the last of his kind: the last - now is not the time for euphemism - unapologetically fat fellow to become a genuinely great cricketer. But he was no Falstaffian biffer, blaster and roisterer: he was a man of quietness, mildness and grace.

He retired three runs short of being Pakistan's leading run-scorer in Test cricket, tripping over the last hurdle rather uncharacteristically. Perhaps he now regrets all those short singles he turned down over the course of his career, but probably not. His cricketing life has been notable for a kind of other-worldly serenity: a gentle, baffled wonder at the way cricket balls can be so readily despatched towards boundaries, a phenomenon strange but really rather gratifying, not least because it obviates the need for violent exercise.

One of my all-time favourite batsman. It was sad to see him go :(

Thank you Inzi for all your services!

great batsman i admire his batting:) best Pakistan has ever produced i still remember that day :(,

Its the time he had to play each shot - it didnt matter who he faced

Infact, I would say that any bowler who could hurry him into a shot would consider himself a hero! languid calm personified.

The only time in my life that I saw him animated or even show emotion was when he beat the guy up in Toronto (see my eye witness account)

fabulous player, naturally gifted stroke maker. You don't see many like him.

One of the greatest batsmen Pakistan has ever produced !

Thanks for all the good times inzi !

We miss you big fella !

Absolute legend! Remember that day like it was yesterday with a tear in my eye.

Fantastic batsmen - arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced.

The talent this guy had not only with the bat but also when it came to finishing games was insane.

Also a phenomenal leader. I believe he was Pakistans last 'solid' and undisputed captain. Haven't been able to fill the hole that he left.

Also like the fact how once he is retired he has left the game and gone on to do other things he wants to do in life. We don't see him sitting chatting away on some cheap ARY cricket talk show.

A rock of a batsman, one of pakistans best, inzy brought a sense of calm and stability to our batting i havent seen in anyone else in the last 20 years

His match winning ability was peerless - As long as inzy was there you knew pakistan was in safe hands

Badly missed

On This Day 12th October 2007 : Inzamam Ul Haq played his last Test Innings

Today marks six years since the day Inzamam retired from Test cricket. Playing at the same ground where he made his International debut, Inzamam required only 20 runs in this Test to surpass Javed Miandad's record and become Pakistan's leading Test run scorer. As luck would have it, Inzamam would fall 3 runs short, stumped out off the bowling of Paul Harris.

Nevertheless, an illustrious career which saw numerous match winning innings came to end.

Six years already. And we're no closer in having groomed someone that can take his place.
