The main reasons are that India does not play us plus we didnot played any cricket in 2007 and 2008 plus icing on cake is that we are devoid of home cricket

part of the attempt to destroy Pakistan cricket but the resilience of the nation prevents it. If you look at the voerall record since we began playing test cricket I think we are one of the countries that has played the least amount of test cricket.
it is also very expensive to continually pay for away tours when you dont have a domestic home season to help..

We didn't have any Test cricket in 2008 and few matches only in 07 and 09.
Since we started playing our home matches in UAE, we are at par with other teams expect Australia, India and England.

Very disappointing to say the very least. Here's to hoping Pakistan and Bangladesh both play at least 9-10 tests a year here on. They certainly deserve it.

1997-2007 Pakistan were number 7 in terms of # of tests played, #2 on ODIs played

Not only in last 10 years, but even in 2000-2010 period was same - SRL & WI playing more Test than PAK.
This has nothing to do with isolation, boycott or finance - only reason for that is PCB & its decision makers found it easy to make cheap money from T20 & ODI.
PAK is the first major team to play 2 Test series starting from 2000, when PCB accepted to play 2 Test Ashes warmer with a team that had 10-12 world class players. Then, it became a common practice that PAK will play 2 Test home series - started with SAF in 2003 when there was no isolation, no security threat.
Playing 3/4 Tet series is a status symbol - ECB, CA, CSA & BCCI has their own standard & status, hence PCB was forced to play 3 Test series in those away tours - otherwise they have played 2Test series with SAF, AUS in UAE & in U.K.
If it's mutually accepted, PCB will make sure that PAK becomes first team to play 1 Test series - and I can categorically tell that it's not about finance only - in that regard SRL & WI can't play more Test than PAK in last 20 years. Next summer England will play 5 Test against India & before that, PAK will give them nice practice for 2 Tests - just like ENG toured BD for 2 Tests before going to India.
Dignity, self respect, status co .... these are few things that you not only have to earn but also need to preserve.

The 1.6 did escape from my eyes at first sight, not gonna lie.
This table is indicative, but doesn't give the real picture. What happens is cricket market is polarized, hence from Ireland to Australia, every country tries to host India as much as possible - that resulted teams ended up playing lots of ODI & T20, which PAK missed due to lack of bilateral with IND. To accommodate such games BCCI had sent A, B, C teams to ZIM, BD, WI, SRL ...... imagine IND-PAK playing regularly - 2 Tests, 5 ODI & 5 T20 every 2 years ..........
If you do another table with % of Test, ODI & T20 played by every team (simple math - 3 Test, 5 ODI & 2 T20 means 30% Test, 50% ODI & 20% T20) you'll see the real picture. I haven't checked that data, but I can assume that it'll look vulgar considering PAK's status as a major team in a sports played seriously by few Countries, fewer are good at it & even then half of those better teams are where the game is dying.
I don't want this post to be edited - being politically correct, I can only say that ODI & T20 offers better "tactical" proposition to PCB officials to make money on & "off" the field - that's the main clue here.

Don't call Sri Lanka lowly when the W/L ratio is considerably better than Pakistan's! Especially considering the last couple of years it's been the worst SL team since the '80s

The problem is that whilst the Future Tours Programme stipulates who plays who and within what cycle it's up to the individual boards to decide how many tests, ODIs and T20Is are played in a particular series.
Perhaps it's time the PCB sacrificed a few ODIs and t20is and start playing some 4 or even 5 test match series in the UAE?
And of course not playing India is a big blow too.

India work their players like dogs and have them playing constantly, while England/Australia tend to have longer home tests series. Other sides usually stick to 3 tests max before swiftly moving onto the ODI cash cow.

Honestly I thought Pakistan had the best W/L ratio. That 1.6 never caught my eye until I saw Square Drive's post. Think you guys are being too hard on Ankit bhai here.
Post the big 3 dismemberment India should really focus on their home season. There's no reason why we should continue to fill the coffers of ECB & CA endlessly, SA & our neighbors should be getting more matches especially tests in India.

Ind could reduce matches of series against Aus,Eng and could easily play 3test series with Pak,bd and others. You play meaningless (as it is predictable you will win 4-0 or 4-1 or 5-0 with Aus,eng at home) 5 test series and after 16 years play single test with bd and don't play Pak ( you could play Pak in bd/sl) due to politics. You could*have fixed this. In that way Eng and Aus also could have played more with Pak and bd. Actually none should play more than 3 match test series to accommodate everyone to play each other*in a formidable time span. More than 3match test series should be banned.

3 tests series vs next 6 teams(mostly away) = 18
5 year cycle = 50 tests + extra 10.

I can't say much about the political aspect, but the result of tests in India against Eng/Aus/NZ/WI is pretty much one sided these last few years except 2012. The same can be said about the ODI series in Aus, which go their way unless the pitches are spicy.
As for 5 tests, they do make sense when the teams are evenly matched & there aren't any LO games to follow. The current scheduling is ridiculous, England get a paid holiday in Dubai, spend new year & Christmas at home & still complain about the grueling tour & any number of problems they've faced whilst travelling in India. We really shouldn't be hosting these serial moaners for more than 2 months, SA & Aus are generally much better opponents in India.
The problem with tests in Asia is that they're generally considered an inferior product wrt the LO main course, even by BCCI. If it weren't for the numbers of wins we've had at home I doubt BCCI would bother about scheduling this many tests, they aren't the best of thinkers when it comes to furthering the cause of tests either. Now a lot of this is down to the fact that tests need results, otherwise most fans deem them boring, on the flip side when we have spicier pitches especially in India teams like SA/NZ/Aus/WI roll over like nine pins. The game that ends in 3 days is great for viewership & public interest but not so much for the broadcaster i.e. STAR & they're a part of Newscorp, not sure who the parent is but Sky/Fox/STAR is basically the same.
In other words we need a better business model if tests are to be more profitable & watchable, the Indian public will always watch tests (you can see the interest during Ashes or even when the SA/NZ/Pak/WI are involved in other countries) but the ad revenues & TV rights should fetch more money, even if it means the value of bilateral LO games goes down. Too bad this isn't in the hands of the BCCI or ICC otherwise we'd be seeing more tests, perhaps evenly contested ones that don't necessarily have to last 5 days due to financial constrictions.

4 tests series vs top 4 teams(home and away)=32 +
3 test series vs next 5 teams(home and away)= 30+
5 year cycle = 62 test
124 test in 10 years with light test schedule before world cup

There will be 12 test teams before 2018. I omitted Ireland for now.
