You are right miggy, but I feel Imran Farhat will make the squad now, as he has been in profilic form. He has done i domestically and now against the Indians. He might replace Malik for the openers slot. I am actually pro Malik, and for the sake of continuity I wanted Malik to continue as an opener. Malik has a good ODI record against the Indians. But Farhat is really claiming that spot now.

Nice dilemma for the management.
 
:)) Make no mistake, I would love for Pak Batsman to destroy Pathans confidence but I know that these players arent jokers - we saw Reza score so well against England in the side game and flop spectacularly in the real test....Lets keep our hair on chaps !
 
and I am glad for Imran - just hope he doesnt use this inning to unlearn any lessons he has learnt from his days in the wilderness....We need a good steady opening stand - not a ODI style inning - that will come later. He needs to support Salman and take pressure off him - thats his role.

Lets see how this progresses, Malik should feel the heat now - thats for sure

odis are not tests, just like domestic games are not tests.

I think evenly balanced game - more likely to be a draw - if the remaining A wickets can hold out for something like 350+..

I think its crucial for someone like Asim to hold the innings together, like he normally does - and show the selectors that he is all set.

If nothing else, Farhat, Asim and Umer Guls performances are what Pak need at the moment. The rest is eye candy !

I thijk the way farhat has batted today and in the domestic formatnhas earned him at least one more chance in the pak team, i think butt and farhat would be a very good opening team!

When did I say ODI's are like Tests?

I just said Malik has a good ODI record against the Indians. He might fancy their bowlers. I know you are against Malik as an opener in tests. In my opinion he is capable of doing just fine as an opener. The reason for this is not his technique, but his temperament. I have no qualms if the management gives him another shot at that spot. But having said that, I also feel Farhat has done everything to get a recall and even take Maliks spot.

We will have to wait and see what Bob and Inzi feel, huh?

Have a feeling that given our poor performance in pitch preparation in the past, this is also what Pak players are wondering !!
 
I expect a slow low wicket which is quite soft and spongy. Weather at this time of year isnt the best.

Don't worry about that, I would think Inzy's been keeping a strict code for the pitch looking at how early he started preparation for the pitch
 
Well one thing is for sure, this pitch is as flat as anything. Everyone is getting runs however Farhat has put an intresting dilema to the selectors by being the only one who got a century. It's now going to be intresting to see if bob and Inzi go for Farhat or Malik :13:.

I just woke up and all I have to say "WHAT??!?!?!? WHO IS TALKING NOW?"

Both my prospects Farhat and Raza performed. I am not saying they should be in the starting 11, but considering both are good fielders, they should be in the squad and both can act as 12th man.

I think Raza did not do enough to get called back, but Farhat surely did. His second ton against India in 2 years and the fact that they were considering of opening with Hameed suggests they were looking for a specialist opener.

Firing Farhat cannot be denied much longer of his selection.
 
no place for raza really, afridi is a certain...farhat will play hopefully

i have checked on cricinfo but dont think they gv ball by ball and if so what time does the match start because yesterday i saw 5am uk time and it wasnt on:s
 
430GMT it starts so 3 hours from now.

They usually don't update us until Tea or so, or about an hour into the match.
 
Mansoor and Asim gone! Pakistan A is currently on 227/6. Faisal Iqbal is unbeaten on 18 and Zulqarnain has just joined him. Not looking good....

Question: What happens if Faisal Iqbal scores a century?

Faisal Iqbal is a batsman and Javed Miandads nephew.
 
i think asim's blown his chance for a while. He will be below afridi, raza and malik(if farhat opens) in the pecking order for a middle order berth.

I dont think its like that miggy, Asim's chances of being in playing xi were low due to Afridi being there. And i am pretty sure he will be picked in the squad ahead of Raza. Now lets say if Farhat is picked then they wouldnt be able to pick kamal in the squad because Malik is there to not only back up the opner but also the number 6 spot.

You know...we may all have forgotten about Faisal Iqbal (great player), he may get called up instead of Farhat if he performs, (he's at 38 runs)...but then they may have to send Afridi into open and Iqbal middle order, which is unlikely

a big hello to miggy, hafridi, raz and the rest. after lurking around for 2months (entire pom vs pak series...btw, huge congrats!) i cant resist joining in any more. another reason to congrat you--you've got another indian to bash everytime agarkar gets hit ;-)

Its highly unlikely yaar since there are no glaring vacancies in the middle order where he bats. Afridi/Razzaq and Kamal are fighting for one spot although i believe Afridi wil be the one getting that coveted no6 spot.

The vacancies are at the top and to be honest i dont even see Farhat taking Malik's place for this upcoming series. If that were to happen then all the crap about giving openers a decent run would be straight out the window.

As for an avatar on the top menu bar click on user cp and the on the left hand side of the screen that comes up there should be an option to edit/create your avatar.
 
Yes, but even Malik seems temporary, Hameed will probably take the spot back for the second test....we really should start getting a concrete team, enough of this guessing BS...Why do you think the Aussie batting line up is so strong, because they've been playing with each other for a while now, and we have a different line up every two matches!

good to see farhat back, altho i dont recall seeing him when he debuted. so i guess imran nazir is history now or is he also in the queue behind yasir hameed an farhat? he was pretty aggressive and a cat fielder.

nazir is not test standard though i hope hes given call up again for the odi side in the future
 
I like nazir. He is a good prospect for ODIs.

Faisal Iqbal out for 87! Good knock if I can say so....

Cant he be tried as an opener? He did open against Zimbabwe and scored a century (IIRC).

Gul and Arafat batting now. Definitely a draw and I am pleased that the Indian bowlers havent been allowed to get into good rhythm.

Good to see Pak A give the Indian bowlers a tough ride, but I am not going to read too much into it as the tests is a different ball game altogether. Well done to Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal and Hasan Raza for scoring well.
