Pakistan (111/7) end their T20 World Cup campaign with a narrow 3-wicket victory over Ireland (106/9)

I hate babar for STILL playing timid. Some captain he is. Pakistan isn't going anywhere with this guy leading the side. Treating Ireland like world class bowlers.

Shaheen is my MoM ofcourse. Babar played well. Around 5 to 6 players have played the last for Pak.

Shaheen and the other Afridi guy saved Babar big time.

This was turning out to be yet another embarassment for KING Babar.

Despite the pitch getting much easier to bat on, Ireland made a match out of it. 15 runs more it would have been difficult.

Oh dear - shaheen just schooled babar on how to bat. Not only ability but also guts too.

Those sixes by Abbas and Shaheen saved Babar's ass 😂😂 Otherwise he was there to lose another match for Pakistan

Except for that bad super over, Amir actually bowled well. Rauf wasn't good at all and could lose his spot.

Babar basically relied on 2 tailenders to finish the game
Typical

And he insists at being a T20 opener

I know for a fact guys like Sharjeel won’t make tailenders do the run scoring if they are in this situation

That cover drive four from Babar was good to watch. I hope for him, he improves his game and leave captaincy.

Pakistani lower order panics easy. They need someone to guide them while they play their strokes. Babar's presence was needed. It was the right innings for this score
Guide lol Luckily there was no game changing bowlers in the IReland side. Imagine exposing tail this much to a better team, Game would have been over long back.

Oh pleaseeeee.

Sharjeel would hit one in the air and see rest of the match from dugout.

It was smart of babar to ask 2 tailenders who def has the ability to hit few meanwhile he holds the other end. As long as he was there they would ve chased this even with rauf.

Babar Shaheen Naseem are only players worth mentioning in this team.

if abbas and shaheen didnt chase this down, half the squad would've claimed asylum in the US

Yep but Babar lovers can't see that, for them the world stopped at the Super over, don't realize that it was a 200 pitch where batting was a collective failure.

Think someone got carried away Re the Thread title - how we could have made it an easier win that it was, scraped it with a 3 wicket win

The right innings would have been to take the majority of the strike himself instead of hiding behind tailenders protecting his own average.

This Ireland side is god awful. They lost to Canada, got blitzed by India and now lost to PAK as well.

US could have easily beaten them even if there wasn't a washout .

Fakhar Zaman Usman Khan Shadab Khan Iftikhar Ahmed Saim Ayub Azam Khan Haris Rauf Imad Wasim M.Amir

9 out of 15 are dirt garbage
Out of these fakhar and amir should stay and maybe saim as well. Rest should stay away from pak cricket now.

Shaheen Shah Afridi: "To be honest, we haven't played the type of good cricket that our country demands. We need to improve in a few areas quickly because we have big events coming up like the Champions Trophy."

It's why instead of launching his career to the next level over the past few years he has actually regressed.

He isn't capable of winning games on his own. It needs someone else to come in and play a blinder.

Shaheen and Abbas spared his blushes today.

He had to say that because when land in pakistan they dont want to be greeted by angry fans. If we are called “power house” which in my opinion, we never were… we would ATLEAST qualify to super 8’s.

Abbas and Shaheen really saved Babar here. Was going nowhere

Shaheen Afridi shines with ball and bat as Pakistan beat spirited Ireland

It was only pride at stake as Pakistan faced Ireland in their final group match in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Lauderhill - but both sides put in a feisty display.

After some fine fast bowling, Ireland made 106/9 off their 20 overs - despite being 15/4 at one stage.

Pakistan got over the line thanks to the lofted strikes of Shaheen Shah Afridi - who had taken three wickets earlier on.

Pakistan's sole win thus far this tournament was against Canada, and Ireland are still seeking their first victory of the campaign.

Naseem Shah is replaced by Abbas Afridi for Pakistan, while Ireland have also made one change, bringing in Ben White for Craig Young.

It was a festival of high quality quick bowling from Pakistan as they demolished the Ireland top order in double-quick time.

Shaheen Shah Afridi removed both Andy Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker in the first over, and Harry Tector in the third, while Mohammad Amir dismissed captain Paul Stirling, leaving Ireland on 15/4.

But despite wickets falling regularly, Ireland mustered some resistance – notably 31 from Gareth Delany, and then good work from the tailenders, Josh Little (22 not out) and Ben White (5 not out).

Slower pace also had some effect, with Imad Wasim taking 3/8, removing Delany (caught by Shadab Khan), Mark Adair (caught by Afridi), and bowling Barry McCarthy outright.

Little and White had given themselves something to bowl at, but Mohammad Rizwan and Saim Ayub began the response brightly - both ultimately falling for 17, Ayub caught by Tucker off Adair, and Rizwan caught by Adair off McCarthy.

And it was McCarthy who did the damage to the middle order, removing both Usman Khan and Shadab Khan in the space of three balls, after Fakhar Zaman had been caught by the substitute fielder off Curtis Campher.

It meant that after being 52/2 from their first eight overs, they had now fallen to 57/5, and it was 62/6 when Abbas Afridi went for 17, again caught by the sub off White.

Babar Azam steered the ship home with an unbeaten 32, and it was ultimately Shaheen who got the winnings runs, with 13 off just five deliveries.

Hard fought victory against one of the favorites to lift the trophy. Great fight back Pakistan! Way to sign off on a high! 👏

Babar Azam PR/Fans try to make this innings look like Brian Lara's 153 against ATG Aussies but incessantly get trolled.

I think babar captaincy chapter is over after this. Pak team needs a total revamp. Time to drop atleast azam khan, shadab, ifti for good. Make babr and rizzy bat at 5 or 6 and 6 or 7 and no higher. They need to take the pressure of the last overs big hitting and not just statpad opening. Identify a core who are positive and dont statpad and back them over some time.

Not much between Pakistan and Ireland today.
We have a lot of work to do to revive our cricket even in the least demanding format.
Sad for the tournament when Pakistan go out first round though.

Time for some players to gracefully retire time for some players to be dropped ( shadab Azam usman imad)

hope PCB can show a bit of maturity and set a 5 year target for real improvement .

Do we have any players who could who can step in though?

Misbah on TV about the Ireland game:

"There was plenty of seam in the first innings, which cause a lot of difficulty for the batsmen. Pakistan should have still made a better show out of it."

"I will say that until you have 6 proper batsmen, who can bat in different kind of situations, players who can adapt and change their game according to conditions, you cannot succeed. Batters who have played on only one type of pitches in T20s, and those that do not have enough experience in other formats, will struggle when they have to bat on tricky pitches."

"On the other hand, on flat tracks (over160-170 pitches), we have not been able to play aggressive cricket. This World Cup has been an eye-opener for not just the whole team but also for the system including the selectors,"

"There needs to be discussion about how we can correct these mistakes. We have been talking about this issue for a long time. If we start planning now, we will only get a result after 2 years. This performance in the World Cup was due to poor strategies put in place 1-2 years ago. We have to do something to address these problems immediately,"

Abbas Afridi was a bit tentative but I thought he batted well and showed promise with the bat, maybe he could become the all rounder we all wish Shadab could be

Oh dear - shaheen just schooled babar on how to bat. Not only ability but also guts too.
And who schooled Imad on ability and guts?

15 (23)
4 (6)

This is after his delusional fans told us that he is mentally strong & keeps his cool under pressure?
