Pakistan (128/5) qualify for the Semi-Final stage with a 5-wicket win over Bangladesh (128/5)

Pakistan at the top of the table, for some hours at least.

Pakistan somehow make it to the semi's despite looking so woeful for most of the tournament. So many 2017 CT vibes.

Finally we are in semi. Lets just hope Saqlain doesn't get any extended contract.

Congrats Pakistan. This game was so good with so much bad cricket amid a few sparks.

I'd back Pak to beat NZ (assuming Ind beat Zim).

And then blockbuster :aag

Congrats to Pakistan for semis. Amazing thing how Netherlands opened everything up. Pak done Netherlands the favour by sending the minnow BD to play qualifying round next world cup t20.

At least I can support England.

Unbelievable.

We bottled the game against India, suffered an embarrassing defeat Vs Zimbabwe & Here we are - In to the Semi-Finals of another WorldCup!!

Have belief, there never has been and never will be a team like the Pakistan Cricket Team, the most unpredictable team in existence.

Dil Dil Pakistan - Jaan Jaan Pakistan

GAME OVER!!!
Needed a bit of luck today, but we deserve it as we have had 0 luck upto now in the tournament.

Wow going to have such a nice sleep!. We can enjoy for another few days boys :) Can't believe ND won and we got this all in the span of 6hrs!

Pakistan Zindabad!!

Shakib will feel shortchanged for sure, game turned from that point onwards.

If that’s the case then Bangladesh will always be an average side.

One questionable umpire decision shouldn’t cause a collapse.

If Bangladesh fielded well and the keeper took an easy catch then maybe a different game. But they didn’t along with no balls and missing run outs. They lost because they didn’t take their opportunities.

Congratulations Pakistan and commiseration to some indian fans who were labeling Pakistan as a Low level team

A clip of Babar smiling and giving a thumbs up to the Dutch Skipper as he went out to the field and the Dutch skipper responded we did our bit, now go and win and help us get in the top 4.

Lol. They blamed their entire batting collapse to a fake throw vs India

Total lack of talent and depth in the Bangladeshi batting apart from Litton Das and Shakib.

Most Indian fans have been decent in here tbh.

Of course a troll would say Pak didn’t deserve it.

Shaheen Afridi's four-wicket haul has helped Pakistan clinch a semi-final spot at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Adelaide on Sunday.

Positives aplenty as Pakistan qualify for semi-finals

At the start of the day Pakistan needed plenty to go right just to be in contention for a semi-final berth and Babar Azam's side had everything go exactly how they wanted as they clinched what looked to be an unlikely spot in the final four.

The Netherlands' stunning victory over South Africa earlier in the day left Pakistan's match against Bangladesh as a virtual quarter-final and the contest between the two Asian sides kept everyone on the edge of their seat right until the gripping climax.

Shaheen Afridi looked back to his brilliant best with impressive figures of 4/22 at Adelaide Oval as Bangladesh could manage just 127/8 in good batting conditions and Pakistan found the victory target with two overs remaining despite a few wobbles in reply.

Finally a decent partnership for Babar and Rizwan

Babar (25) and Mohammad Rizwan (32) are arguably the best opening pair in T20I cricket, but up until Sunday's match neither player had done much at the T20 World Cup.

The pair had put on 57 for the opening wicket and it looked like they were going to propel Pakistan to an easy victory, until both were removed in quick succession as Bangladesh found a glimmer of hope.

That hope was built upon when Litton Das threw down the stumps of Mohammad Nawaz to send the Pakistan all-rounder packing as nerves began to set in for Babar's talented side.

But that was as good as it got as Bangladesh's campaign came to an end and Pakistan's continued on to the knockout stages in the semi-finals.

Emotional Shakib frustrated as Bangladesh miss golden chance

Shakib was a frustrated man during much of Sunday's clash and it all began when he was given out LBW for a golden duck as Bangladesh’s strong start inside their batting Powerplay was suddenly halted.

The experienced Bangladesh leader was given out LBW first ball by South Africa umpire Adrian Holdstock and he immediately sent the decision to be reviewed as he was convinced he had edged the ball onto his pad.

Shakib's frustration grew when the TV umpire confirmed the onfield decision and it was further confounded during Pakistan's innings when he wasn't allowed to review an LBW decision against Nawaz due to the time having elapsed.

It wasn't meant to be for Shakib or for Bangladesh, but the Asian team can hold their heads high for the way they have performed at the tournament.

It's been a surreal night.

Watched both games back to back and haven't slept a wink.

Still can't believe it

Rizwan and Babar playing with the same mentality that the middle order will not perform and it's on their shoulders only. That mindset almost cost us an easy chase against Bangladesh. Will they finally make way for Mo Haris as an opener? Also Shan actually playing a good and responsible knock is great to see. Shows that you can be an anchor and still play at a good strike-rate.

Shakib Al Hasan: At the halfway stage we were 70/1. Wanted to get somewhere around 145-150 - would've been a reasonable total on that pitch. Knew it was going to be difficult for the new batters so wanted set batters to carry through to the end which didn't happen. In terms of results, this is the best performance we had in T20 World Cups. Could've done better. But having said that, with the new guys coming in, with the changes, this is the best we could expect. On my own performance - I could've done better. As long as I'm fit and performing, I'd love to play.

He is looking nervous now. Was mocking Pakistan in all the threads for not reaching the semis and now has started to lose his mind after knowing about Pakistan's chances to reach semis. :inti

lol how much you lie dude. Don't you have any limits of shame?

Find me all those posts in ALL the threads.

Hahaha you're hilarious.

Babar Azam: It's a team game. Cricket is a funny game. Appreciate all my team the way they played all matches. Pitch wasn't easy to bat on. Little bit two-paced. Me and Rizwan decided to go long, but unfortunately didn't work out. Haris showed aggression, good to see him play. Looking forward to the semifinals. All of us are excited to play.

Yes!! Another game for RizBab to seal their fate :D

Shows how out of form they are that they couldn’t even use a halwa chase for a false confidence 75 ball 50 :sree

Our management is emasculated beyond belief, they are too scared to stand up to Babar to change the opening pair, which may cost us big time Vs NZ.

Congratulations team Pakistan.

We are a nothing side. Tamim,Mushigur and Ryad were way way better than these loosers. Mr Pappon has destroyed Bangladesh cricket.

Batters failed to make 150 runs. The match was lost there at that stage..

Congratulations to all Pakistanis here. Your team has arisen from the ashes. Pakistan is favourite to win this world cup now. Where is Mamoon ?

You doing bhangra for a pak win while claiming to support Bangladesh while being an Indian. Your life is tedious troll

Are you dumb? Where did I do any bhangra? I was just agreeing with you and you can't even take that sportingly. Just goes to show you were pretending to support Pakistan here. :))) :inti

Favorites? :)))

Pakistan is the weakest team in the semifinal. It would take two more flukes for them to go all the way and their luck will run out at some point.

Yes Pakistan is weakest when Pakistan beat NZ 2-1 in their home conditions including a final.

Shanto terms batting unit responsible for defeat

Batting first, Bangladesh stumbled from 73/1 to 127/8, an addition of 54 runs for the loss of 7 wickets

Bangladesh batter Nazmul Hossain Shanto termed the batting unit responsible for their five-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup in Adelaide Sunday.

Bangladesh faced Pakistan with the golden opportunity of grabbing a semi-final spot.

The two teams were set for a do-or-die affair after the Netherlands pulled off a historic victory against South Africa in the first game of the day at the same venue.

Bangladesh however, failed to make use of the chance after the batting unit failed to post enough runs on the board.

After deciding to bat first, Bangladesh saw opener Shanto score his second half century in the format, and as many in the tournament, with a 48-ball 54 laced with seven boundaries.

However, the Bangladesh batters failed to make an impact with only three getting to score in double figure – Afif Hossain (24 not out), Soumya Sarkar (20) and Liton Das (10).

The Bangladesh batting line up fell apart following Shakib al Hasan's controversial leg-before wicket for a golden duck, but Shanto doesn't see the incident as a distraction and instead put the focus on the batters for their failure.

“I don't think so [Shakib dismissal being a distraction]. The decision was confusing for everyone but we did not get stuck to that. We could have played better cricket. We all thought it was a not out but at the end it is for umpire to decide. This did not distract us, it is just us who did not play well in the middle and death overs,” said Shanto to the media following the game.

“We all wanted to win, it was a rare big opportunity for us. We wanted to make use of the opportunity and tried to give our 100% but we fell short in the middle,” he added.

Shanto perished to part-time spinner Iftikhar Ahmed in the 14th over.

The left-handed batter, who finished the tournament with most runs for Bangladesh, 180 in five innings with a strike rate of 114.64, said the total against Pakistan could have been more if he had managed to bat till the end.

“I think the wicket was for 140 to 150 runs. I knew it was important for me to finish but I failed. I was disappointed. We could have had a comparatively bigger total if the other batters had done well,” said the southpaw.

Speaking of his innings, Shanto said, “I think I batted according to the merit of the wicket. It was not an easy wicket to bat on. The ball was spinning in the middle overs. I think it was fine the way I batted.”

Babar Azam's speech

The Netherlands pulled off a coup in the dying stages of the ongoing T20 World Cup as they prevailed over a strong South African side in their final group stage game. Netherlands hadn't beaten the Proteas in a World Cup match and decided to spoil their party when it mattered the most as they fell short by 13 runs. The loss knocked South Africa out of the tournament in an embarrassing result as crunch games continue to get better of them.

The Dutch didn't help South Africa at all but they surely gave Pakistan a lifeline with a win out of nowhere. Pakistan now had the golden chance to seal their spot in the semi-finals as a win over Bangladesh would be enough to see them through and that's what transpired. However, it wasn't just Pakistan fans rooting for their team, the Dutch too were supporting the Men in Green.

And the Dutch batter Tom Cooper made it pretty obvious as well. Cooper, who played his part in the win with 19-ball 35 was seen telling Pakistan skipper Babar Azam that they need to win so that the Netherlands could finish 4th. "Now make sure you win, so we finish fourth," said Cooper as the Netherlands team walked off the field while Babar and Co. entered the Adelaide Oval for their game.

While the position might not matter much as far as the race for the semi-finals is concerned, but now that Pakistan have won, Netherlands will finish at 4, which means they automatically qualify for the next T20 World Cup in 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.
As for the match, Pakistan were right on the money from ball one as they didn't let Bangladesh batters cut loose at any point. An umpiring howler did help them but none of the batters apart from opener Najmul Hossain Shanto showed much resistance and they could score only 127. Pakistan stuttered during their batting but contributions from Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Haris and unbeaten Shan Masood saw them through.

Can't wait for next 2 flukes...bet Eng and India are praying for flukes too.
Bring on the flukes!

Luck is always needed to win even a cup ,let alone world cup. Every team winning a world cup was blessed with shear luck at some point . Latest casualty Ben Stokes on behalf of England with that controversial 4 off the throw hitting the bat. It decided the trophy. And and fortune favours the brave and almost on all occasions favours the deserving one.

He's ranting in the Pakistan Rise from the Dead thread that it's all an ICC conspiracy to ensure a Pak/India final.

I won't deny the fact that i myself also thought the same when Shakib was given out unfairly.ha ha ha

Shoaib Akhtar:

"Devastating performances by everyone. No team has dominated in this tournament. Australia is out. England isn't looking at their best. Pakistan hasn't played their best cricket, but in the last 2 matches, they have done wonders. Now the main question is if we'll meet India again. "Hanji? Aap keh rahe the hum bahar ho gaye?" Just wait, we'll meet with you again, and if India and Pakistan reach final or get out in the semifinals, it will be a big deal. But Pakistan now needs to win."

sorry but your opinion not matters here on this, pakistan will go to semi based on their own performance and teams perfomance

On their own performance? Pakistan won against two minnows and South Africa and qualified for the semis! This has to be the biggest fluke of all time.

India also beat 2-3 minnows, lost to South Africa and won off the final ball against Pakistan. That should be considered a fluke as well

Than who should go to semis plz ealborate and dont run off.

Sa losted 2 games and won against minnows and india. Bangladesh only won against minnows. Netherlands only won 2 games, zimbabwe only won one game.

Plz give a detailed analysis.

As for flukes. No one cares once you win. 1992 was fluke, 2017 was fluke, srivlankas 1996 was a fluke. What matters is if you get the trophy or now

2007 world t20 and 2021 pakistan gave best formance, did they won? Nope.

Doesnt matter, all that matters is get into the semi than finals

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has come down hard on Bangladesh batters, criticising their approach in a must-win T20 World Cup match against Pakistan. The game between Bangladesh and Pakistan was a must-win contest for both sides, with a semi-final place on the line. However, poor batting saw Bangladesh posting just 127/8, and this target was chased down comfortably by Pakistan as they won the match with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.

Akram has now said that if he was the captain or coach of Bangladesh, he would make them see psycologists. The former Pakistan captain also criticised the batting approach of Najmul Hasan Shanto who threw his wicket away after reaching 50.

"Bangladesh have to blame themselves. They should. If I was a captain of Bangladesh team or the coach of Bangladesh team, I will make sure these guys will see psychologists. Because at one stage, Shanto was on 54 and things were going well then," Akram told A Sports' show 'The Pavilion'.

"They were 73 for 2 and I thought they'll get to 160. But then Shanto stepped out and played a weird shot off Iftikhar and was bowled. If you had kept on taking singles, the score would have reached 155 comfortably," he added.

Further talking about Bangladesh, Akram said: "In an international level, when you see a certain bowler was coming to bowl and you know that the opposition captain has brought him to take wickets, that's where you don't play a shot. You try to rotate the strike in that particular over but the Bangladesh players made up their minds to hit him and hit Shaheen only."

Congratulations to Pakistan, they were down and out after the first two games, and this is why we say 'never say never'

Dangerous team to stop from here and I'm not trying to jinx. I think I will put Pakistan as favorites from here on.
