Your men in blue couldn't beat SA, and Pakistan has quite convincingly. They had to limp through minnow Bangladesh win and were saved by rain interruption, such a top side

The fact they recovered from 40 for 4 tells me the top order is the problem.
Not the middle order.
They deserve to go through on basis of todays performance but dont deserve to go through on basis of Zimbo performance.
If they still end up going through, aka results going their way then they deserve it.

Shadab Khan's all-round assault sinks South Africa
Shadab Khan kept Pakistan's hopes of securing a semi-final berth alive as they defeated South Africa by 33 runs (DLS method) in their Super 12 encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the SCG on Thursday.

Pakistan looked in deep trouble when they were reduced to 43/4 inside just seven overs. Mohammad Haris entertained briefly while with his 11-ball knock of 28 at the top of the order but Babar Azam (6), Mohammad Rizwan (4) and Shan Masood (2) got dismissed cheaply, leaving the lower middle-order with a lot of catching up to do.
Iftikhar Ahmed stepped up as he built a 52-run stand with Mohammad Nawaz first and then another 82-run stand for the sixth wicket with Shadab to take Pakistan to a total of 185/9, which looked absolutely improbable at one point. Iftikhar scored 51 from 35 deliveries but the real difference was made by Shadab as he walked in and smashed 52 from just 22 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes.

The Proteas didn't get off to the start they would have hoped for as Shaheen Afridi got rid of Quinton de Kock in the very first over of the innings. They also lost Rilee Rossouw in the fourth over with just 16 runs on the board. Temba Bavuma brought an end to his lean patch with an entertaining 19-ball 36. He played some exquisite shots and took South Africa's score to 65/2 at the end of seven overs.

Bavuma was threatening to take the game away from Pakistan but Shadab stepped up with the ball this time as he dismissed the South African skipper caught behind off his very first delivery.
He didn't stop at that as he cleaned up a well-set Aiden Markram for 20 in the same over. The Proteas were cruising towards the target with Bavuma and Markram at the crease, but Shadab came into the attack and changed the momentum completely.
Shaheen Shah Afridi shines bright
Rain interrupted the game after the end of the ninth over with South Africa on 69/4 but the game resumed after a while with South Africa needing 73 to win from five overs (DLS method). Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs brought South Africa into the game for a brief while as they added 25 runs in less than two overs but they fell behind once again when Afridi dismissed Klaasen in the 11th over. This was the left-arm pacer's third wicket after dismissing de Kock and Rossouw in the Powerplay. Afridi finished with figures of 3-0-14-3 as South Africa couldn't recover after that, finishing on 108/9 – 34 runs short of the revised target.
This win has now kept Pakistan's hopes of a semi-final berth alive. They need to win their next match against Bangladesh and then hope that either India or South Africa lose their remaining matches to Zimbabwe and Netherlands, respectively.

The Proteas surrendered the early advantage against Pakistan before going down to a 33-run defeat on the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern (DLS) Method at the SCG in Sydney on Thursday – their first loss at the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Desperate to win in order to stay alive in the competition, the unpredictable Asian side recovered from losing four early wickets to post a strong 185 for nine after winning the toss and batting.
There was a welcome return to form by captain Temba Bavuma during the reply after he top-scored with 36 off 19 balls, but two quick wickets on the stroke of a rain break altered the trajectory of the chase.
When they returned, South Africa were set a revised 142 in 14 overs, meaning they needed 73 off 30 balls from their position of 69 for four at the time. That proved too tall an ask for the middle order and the tail as they faded to end on 108 for nine.
It was their first defeat in Australia and it meant they missed out on becoming the first team to reach the semi-finals of the competition. Instead, they must now win their final match against the Netherlands in Adelaide on Sunday to secure a ticket into the last four.
But it should have been much better for Bavuma and his charges after they started the clash brilliantly at the SCG.
Key opener Mohammad Rizwan (4) was bowled by Wayne Parnell, before Mohammad Haris, who lashed a quick-fire 28 off 11 balls, was one of three men to fall within the space of 12 balls, the other two being Babar Azam (6) and Shan Masood (2) as Anrich Nortje (4/41) struck twice.
That left Pakistan in a hole on 43 for four, but half centuries by Iftikhar Ahmed (51 off 35 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) and Shadab Khan (52 off 22 balls, 3 fours, 4 sixes) together with 28 from Mohammad Nawaz vaulted their side to an excellent 186 target.

Good morale booster, happy that usual suspects didn't make an impact, but this may have come too late. Too much riding on luck, we couldn't pull it through ODI WC, probably not here either. Gotta learn to do it yourself than to rely on others.

Pakistan totally outclassed RSA today
The ‘’fragile’ middle order was the star of the show today. Then the bowlers played their part. Runs on the board makes a huge difference!!! Well played Iftikhar and Shadab. Harris and Nawaz also played their part.
Too bad we did not show the same intent earlier. Should not have lost to Zimbabwe and should have done better while defending 48 runs with 18 balls remaining against india

Too little to late. Only hope we have is if the SA and Netherlands match is rained off. Where was this hard hitting against Zimbabwe? I can understand losing a close one to India but doing so to Zimbabwe deserves elimination from the tournament.

True. I said the same thing earlier. 39 balls, 43 runs to get with 7 wickets in hand should have been a dolly against any team. However, these things can happen in cricket. No one had thought England would lose against Ireland (The latter won courtesy of DLS. I believe if the game had gone the full distance, then England would have won. 53 runs in 33 balls with 5 wickets remaining is very gettable. Moeen had begun to take control of things with the bat! The same cannot be said about RSA today. They were always struggling with the bat). India were not very convincing in their narrow win against Bangladesh yesterday. BD looked firmly in control of the run chase and should have won but Litton and co. just threw it away.
Pakistan's main problem has always been a lack of consistency with the bat.

This is how you play T20 cricket, Pakistan! This is how the format is supposed to be played. Pure, pure joy to watch the fabulous six and boundary-hitting. Each time they hit a six, I shouted loud, "Why can´t they play like this more often?!" 
Pakistan made a record today in a T20 World Cup of having piled up the biggest score after losing the first four wickets for less than 50. It´s really an achievement and just goes to show how much it helps as a team when your batsmen decide to play with freedom and liberty. I´m sure that fans from all around the world would´ve enjoyed such a scintillating display of power-hitting by Pakistan. I´m most excited about seeing Mohammad Haris in the matches to come. Hopefully, it wasn´t just a flash in the pan. His awesome cameo was the sole highlight from what was otherwise a very disappointing start until the middle and lower-order hitters decided to take on the bowlers.
A couple of things: fast bowlers can travel the distance on a given day, I´m well aware of that, but the problem with Haris Rauf is that his bad days convert into seriously really bad days. He conceded two sixes when 28 off eight were required the other day, and today he leaked 40 or something in his first two overs. You can´t do that. I know that he´s inexperienced and will learn with time, and I don´t want to be too harsh on him either, but conceding runs at such a rate can quickly change the whole game - as it did as well until Shadab struck twice in an over. Rauf has been Pakistan´s best bowler the recent times, ever since that first match against India in the T20 Asia Cup in September, so this is one sole issue right now perhaps that he needs to address. It seems like an issue of panicking under pressure, so gaining more experience and more time in international cricket will obviously help.
As for South Africa, like New Zealand, they too seem to be having a long tail. I know that it is actually a long batting line-up filled with bowlers who "can" bat, but these "Can bat" guys never come good in pressure situations. It´s better to strengthen the batting with professional batsmen who are fully capable at the job. They need at least one more batsman in their line-up, in my opinion.

I had some reservations about Ifti’s place in the team but after two really good knocks under great pressure (vs India and South Africa), I think he deserves his spot in the team.

I predicted de Kock and Rohit to have cracking days against the Netherlands and Zimbabwe respectively. Well, that prediction didn't quite come to pass, but here's what I had written on Thursday.....
South Africa weren't that badly placed in their chase today by the 15-over mark. At that stage, one would've expected them to reach home, requiring 48 off 30 with six wickets in hand. However, that's when Miller got out and the likes of like Parnell and Maharaj - absolute batting nobodies - arrived. In pressure situation, in a must-win game, their long tail was exposed and the "Can bat" guys didn't come to their rescue - exactly what I had warned them about days ago - something which wasn't/isn't being discussed by many experts! South Africa must address this issue.
