After a near slip-up against the Netherlands in their opening match, Pakistan will be looking for a much more commanding performance when they face the United States in their second Group fixture of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo on Tuesday (February 10).

Complacency will not be an option, as Pakistan are well aware that the USA can punch above their weight. Memories of the dramatic Super Over upset in the previous edition—which helped the Americans reach the Super 8 and secure direct entry into this tournament—remain fresh. Adding to the caution, USA gave India a tough challenge in their opener in Mumbai, highlighting their growing confidence on the global stage. With a batting lineup prone to collapses, this match could be trickier than it looks on paper.

Pakistan’s bowlers, however, had little to complain about on the fresh, grassy pitch at the Sinhalese Sports Club. The pacers and spinners combined to restrict the Netherlands to just 147, with every bowler except Shadab Khan picking up at least one wicket. Their batting, though, left much to be desired. If not for a fortunate reprieve for Faheem Ashraf and his heroics in the penultimate over, Pakistan could have been off to a forgettable start—something they cannot afford, especially with the crucial India clash looming later this week.

The USA began their campaign on a high, putting defending champions and co-hosts India in trouble at 46/4 and then 118/7 before captain Suryakumar Yadav’s counterattack rescued the team. Another top-order collapse left their middle and lower order with a steep challenge against India’s disciplined bowling.

Adding to their woes, USA will have to deal with injuries. While Shubham Ranjane managed to return after hobbling off the field in the first innings, the injury to Ali Khan could prove problematic during the short turnaround. To cover for other injuries, they have called up former Pakistan cricketer Ehsan Adil—uncapped for the USA in any format—who might make his debut straight off the plane.

First of all selectors mess up again as they always do. Then Pakistan played with an awful combination against Netherlands.
4 batsmen (Farhan,Saim, Agha & Babar)
4 allrounders, 3 of them bowling allrounders & 1 wicket keeper allrounder (Shadab, Nawaz, Faheem, Usman)
3 Bowlers (Shaeen, Abrar & Mirza)
Why so many bowlers? Who is going to do the batting?
There is no place for both Nawaz & Shadab in the side. Saim is a wicket taking spinner use him instead & play one of Nawaz or Shadab.
We need to play an additional batter, no matter who.

In an ideal world, Babar and Usman would be replaced by Fakhar and Nafay but I doubt that would happen.

I would drop one of the faster bowlers and play Usman Tariq. Associate teams usually struggle against mystery spin so he would be a good addition.

The good news for Pak is the Ali may not play - that is one less danger out of the way. Now. that probably will make it 10 Vs 10.

Pak start as 80-20 favorites. USA has to be at their best tomorrow to beat Pak. No Ali Khan will be a big loss, hope netravalkar will step up.. If Pak loses though- the Ind Pak will get insane hype..

Tbh 60-40

Pak are not firm favourites given their batting

India Pak hype will be there no matter what despite odds like 99-1 in favour of India

It’s possible Pakistan may lose this one unless they can play without panicking.

The U.S. isn’t easy. But at the same time Ali Khan may not be playing, Ranjane was injured and Netravalkar had a nightmare first game.

Babar Azam should be dropped but won’t be.

Pakistan need to fit in Nafay either replace Babar or Usman. Shaheen I expect to bowl better this match. Usman should replace Shadab , this weakens the batting but the top 5 should take their responsibilities to post or chase total.

easy win for pak. They should look to improve their NRR just in case rain arrives for their last match. They should not let it go out of hand
Almost all team have struggled against lesser teams in this world Cup so far. USA will give fragile Pakistan batting scare as they did to India they still have ateast one decent pacer and two good slow bowlers.

I think they will give Babar another go; it’s ’only’ the USA. If he succeeds he earns a spot against India.

If he fails, maybe easier to drop him in the hugely vital game against the old enemy?

Or maybe he plays all the games anyway and the above doesn’t matter.

There is no place for Usman Khan in playing eleven . Nafay is def a superior bat , can do reasonable job at keeping too

we can also play an extra batter in place of Shadab/Nawaz and that can be Fakhar Zaman

Faheem can do the job of second pacer. Only one of Salman or Shaheen should play and add mystery Spinner Usman Tariq Against USA he will be effective

Whoever replaces Babar will play their first game against India, that's not fair.

Babar has to open or bat 3 today. We cannot ruin our balance just for tulla Agha with his SR 120 and 25 average bashing B sides. Either we drop both Babar and Tulla Agha or we give Babar his rightful place and push the tulla down. It has to be one or the other.

Looking ahead to Ind game already, might be worth giving Fakhar a go. He is not a good T20I player but he can always come off vs Ind.

Babar played his last World Cup game against Netherlands.

Hesson has moved on from him and now the choice is between Fakhar and Nafay. Babar had ample opportunities, players were sacrificed for him and he still managed to get himself at the beginning of the campaign. Kind of reminds me of what happened to Ahmed Shehzad, and his career never recovered after that.

Look there is no question he was underwhelming in that game but in just the game before that he scored a brisk match winning half century against Australia of all teams....it's always good to have perspective. If you say Babar needs to speed up I can have a discussion on that but then to back Salman Richards Agha with his 120 SR and 25 average and make him captain...hard pass.

“GRUDGE MATCH” in the title 💀.. when the USA is your grudge match is when you should realise you should give up playing cricket ngl

He is not upto the t20 game just accept it against Netherlands he was pathetic wasted balls created crisis for the team and team mates if he loses today and fails he should be no way near the team

Your posts are self‑contradictory. In post #30 you call captain Agha a tulla and even suggest dropping the player, yet at the same time you say Fakhar is not a good T20 player but still want to include the player against India because he “might comes off” in that match?

In the post above, you defend Babar for scoring a half‑century against “Australia of all teams,” but you somehow forgot to mention Salman Ali Agha’s performance against that very same Australian side.

In that three‑match series, Agha was the top scorer with 120 runs, an average of 40, and—more importantly—a strike rate of 171.42. Meanwhile, Babar scored 76 runs, averaged 37.50, and had a strike rate of 124.59.

NB! I am not a Babar hater, just pointing out your strange comments.

Kuch tou soch liya karo likhnay say pehlay.

I think we should bat first and aim to put a good score - 170+ and then choke them with spin. I’m a bit nervous chasing in case the top order goes quickly so bat first should be the way to go.

Yes because Babar opening in WT20s is such a success!

Expected from Riz paglu

I love these kind of banana peel slip games. Zero personal investment, zero emotional stake, full drama, full enjoyment, full scope to make out like a clown.

So life after Babar Azam starts today for Pakistan as per reports he will be benched. Let's see hopefully team won't miss him

I think pak will wipe the floor with the US of Amreeka. Lot riding on Paks with all the recent happenings and also the poorana tareekh of 2024.
Amreekan team has some intresting character -Saurabh and Harmeet representing India U-19 in 2010 and 2012,
Shubham Ranjane son of Subhash Ranjane who played FC and could have played for India had he progressed more and also grandson of Vasant Ranjane who actually played for india. Namma Veera Tamil Bharadwaj Iyer - Sanjay Krishnamurti who i think has terrific potential, Ali Khan - a lovely sling shot action- good pace - enjoy watching him, the skipper monank looks slimmer and more improved.

All in all - i think pak undestmated Neth in the prev match and the slowness of the pitch at SSC also played its part but i would think this time pak will come out blazing and jus bury USA...exciting game in prospect.

They are good games for neutrals. ND v Pak and US v India probably got more eyeballs than other matches
:ROFLMAO:

Haha I’ve got my coffee going, and my laptop fired up too.

Direct consequence of the last few days, this game will get many many extra Indian eyeballs for sure.

Whatever happens cricket is the winner, sorry schadenfreude is the winner.

Babar isnt the issue our batting is so thin its shocking and to make up with bits and pieces batters isnt good ..they need to have proper power batters rafay wud be great but not replacing babar but usman but that wont happen i think

Babar Azam strike rate in T20Is vs pace (by length)

Since then - 110

Since then - 93

Agha is a tulla - he has no body of work to fall back on. His body of work is smashing B grade Lankan bowlers, bricked it 3x in a row vs India in Asia Cup. Babar has a body of work to fall back on including performances in the World T20 against India, New Zealand...they cannot be judged with the same yardstick. Babar is the highest scorer in T20I HISTORY! Agha over his career is a 120 SR 25 averaging player.

I am not in favor of Fakhar in T20I. What are our other options for Sunday? Atleast with Fakhar there is a chance he might come off. If the alternative is a tulla like Usman Khan we don't have too many options.

In an ideal scenario for me, Babar should open and be asked to accelerate and not care about consequences. He is too worried we will get bowled out - not without reason if you see Asia Cup Final. Agha is a club level cricketer who has somehow become captain and is the worst ever player to wear the green shirt and captain. The sooner we can get rid of this bits and pieces joker the better.

Fakhar is one of our ODI greats but in T20I despite the propaganda form RizBar haters he has been mediocre to say the least. We need to nurture Nafay and let him develop if we have moved on from Rizwan but please no Usman or Azam Khan.

This is right up Farhan's alley. Minnow team he can strike a good 50(35) here to average out his performances for the tournament against the bigger sides much like his career so far.

Sanity prevails and Babar is playing. Unfortunately we have to put up with Tulla Agha. I have not seen a more mediocre Pakistani cricketer. Even Wasti and Rambo as cricketers had more charisma and talent than this clown.

Lora goosebumps still playing
Remember his 44 (43) innings against USA last time? I reckon that's the best he can do. Otherwise he will just get out cheaply trying to slog.

In the past few months every time Babar has tried to hit a boundary he has gotten out.
